Been following this thread since New Year.......and thanks folks!  Its been really intresting reading all your comments and I'm on bet 10 now. 
I wont be a frequent poster as for some dam reason posting always jinxes me   I know they say 'Superstition is the Religion of Fools' but cant help it, its a carry over from my total mug punter days,

I got involved with Joci's 1+ goals challenge previous and had some fantastic runs and banked a few £100's....but learning 'discipline' was the absolute hardest part of this challenge. 
like most ex-mug's its also really hard to take the 1.02 for pennies at the start, in fact i'd never touch anything less than 1.1 in the past, but even that gets tedious and the mug in me always spots a 1.5 or 2's that seems like a sure thing . 

I agree totally with Tez, building up from small stakes is a good way to get the discipline....only thing you have to watch is when you do get up into the decent returns, it starts to feel like the big bets of old did and its easy to slip off the path then and start betting on more of the 'gambles' than the relitive safety of 1.02.  I actually packed in gambling bar the odd £10 accumulator as I had the worst summer after i lost a bigish £800 bank worked up at various odds from £100....I'd banked the original stake once I got to £200 but went for a roll up on free money.....ok, that was a sensible start ....what wasnt sensible was i did as we all are inclined to do if discipline wanes and stuck it on a >4.5 @ 4-0 half time in an under 17's for the sake of having 'just one more bet that day'!!...crashed and burned!  ...and thats when i got stupid and replaced my whole bank of £800 telling myself it was just a stupid mistake and went again...........but i was angry with myself and betting in anger is not good....3 bets later i lost that on betting Kitscho/Haye not going the distance....and it was the start of a really expensive sh*tty spell........BUT it can CAN be done.....IF

.....you can stay disciplined!
.....like some of you are sensibly saying....see it from the point of view of the longer picture!
....(banking along the way also eases the pain of a banana skin) 

I havent done this since mid July and if I'd just stuck with doing 1.02 on an average of 10 bets per week by now I would have in the region of (220 bets) £30,000 on a straight roll up from £50 !

This time I'm heading for is a £2700 bank (from a £100 start)...@ 1.02 this will net me after comission £50 ish per bet....then I'm going to bank the next 20 bets so at least I've banked a grand (2 weeks in by my average/ 4 days by Tez's) .....this will take me about 5 months in total to achieve......I'll then play one bet for me (withdraw)/one bet the bank until I've rolled it up to aprox £5400 and getting £100 profit per bet (i think thats about another 74bets? or 2 months worth....anyway, my ultimate aim is to carry this on....until I've got a bank built up that will pay me per bet what I'm grossing per week at work

I look at it this way....(i've only just started seeing sense!).....I cant afford to give up work at the moment but if i have to work until I retire, even giving myself a generous pay rise each year (which my boss wont!)....by the time i retire in 17 years I'll only have earned in the region of £500,000 (gross)total (i'm on aprox 22K) .....which is aprox 490 bets @ 1.02 ...... @ 10 bets per week = in just less than one year of keeping disciplined and hitting no banana skins, I could buy my freedom for £50   .....well it will take me a couple of years, that 1st year is going to be mainly about banking and putting back what I blew in the summer

I know I've waffled on a bit and sorry for that....but rest assured because of my jinx fear I wont be posting again until I've either blown and will put my hands up or have achieved my first target!  But I thought I'd post to let you know that I'm following all your posts with intrest and it's nice to have some kindred spirits in the forum. 
I wanted to put the facts how I got burned out up as someone once said ' a wiseman learns from the mistakes of others a fool learns from his own' and as i havent earned financial freedom yet i'm hardly one to talk, but for those of you rushing to build up to a healthy bank ammount remember a few tips that i could suggest:
in no particular order:

....WORK OUT YOUR END GAME (THE TARGET(S) YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE)
....STAY FOCUSED ON THE END GAME AT ALL TIMES
....DONT BET TIRED, SICK, ANGRY, (OR DRUNK!)
....SET YOURSELF ACHIEVABLE TARGETS FOR BETS I.E. AVERAGE 10 BETS PER WEEK OVER A YEAR (you will probably do well in excess of this but dont feel forced to bet for the sake of some crazy high bet/day ratio ...bet whats achievable to stay disciplined!
....THINK OF THINGS IN THE LONGER TERM AND BANK ALONG THE WAY
....KEEP RECORDS (these dont have to be too detailed, a simple spreadsheet showing how your bank has/will roll up - comission, and by each bet jot down what the bet was and the result....looking back on these teaches you a lot in the future)

....there's probably loads more other folk could add and I'd look forward to reading them as these sort of forums when its punter to punter are the places I learn most and adapt my strategies accordingly.

.....IF YOU WOULDNT BET £5000 ON IT DONT BET £50 (I know loseing small banks doesnt seem to worry some of you but you wouldnt stake a larger sum on the same bet then dont do it.......eventually loseing those small banks gets to you and also makes you angry because even though they were small they took loads of time and patience to build up)
