No wonder United have looked shaky at the back recently, missing the best defender in the world and all.

Yeh, when is Gary Neville back ?
Report atom80 September 29, 2010 9:43 PM BST
He brings such a calming influence over the team..

He's good but there are others I'd choose ahead of Ferdinand.  Certainly not the best.

Rio obviously missed and makes a mockery of those who were stupid enough to mock him.

That said...change in system and perhaps personel made us more defensively astute also.

Add Carrick the best midfielder and Rooney the best Forward and the double is yours  LaughLaugh

Hunter seething that the defensive partnership that put him through personal torment for 3 straight years is reunited.

Let's not forget that Valencia got a few dangerous balls in the box, some of which spilled through without anyone (Ferdinand included) making contact.  On a different night there could have been goals.  Vidic is and was better than Ferdinand.

but they never connected (as you state).. You could say if it were closer to the attacker it would have been closer to the defender and dealt with.

Fairish point atom, but when the balls scoots all the way through like that it's a missed chance from the strikers who didn't make a run.  Some of them could have been reached if they'd gambled.
Report atom80 September 29, 2010 9:58 PM BST
Yeah maybe. I think we looked very much man to man today so were very close to the attacker.

Could have been an attacking midfielders dream as there were a lot of space on the crosses.

I was shocked they didn't go 2 upfront from the off given how many we've conceded this season.
