As Fernando points out,he's already at the biggest club in the country and if the takeover is as nailed on as i think it is,he could well be at the richest club in the world in a few weeks

What are your personal targets this season and what do you think Liverpool can achieve?

This is the best club in the country so the targets and expectations are always high. Hopefully we can stay at our level. At Liverpool the aim is to fight for every title. It was difficult last season but we are sure we can improve this season. I am really happy to be back, really happy to stay with all my teammates. My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Good lad, never doubted his loyalty to be honest.Said he would honour his contract, and he is ovbviously a man of his word.Refreshing, and a real credit to the game, unlike so many these days.
Well done Fernando.

I'm not a Liverpool fan but I think players that steer clear of the bankrolled clubs (Chelsea & Man City) show much more ambition then the 50-60 players players in each each of their squad
Report Analyst August 3, 2010 11:59 PM BST
I think Liverpool will be top 4 this season and said so a month ago and was matched at 3.40 - those odds don't look so silly now.

Changing manager and ownership are positive moves as far as I can see and Torres agrees.

In recent years I have made a lot laying Liverpool btw and am not a fan etc
Report Avocado August 4, 2010 12:01 AM BST
Arsenal to fall out of top 4 this season. Tottenham nowhere near. Liverpool and City to join man utd and chelsea.
Report Avocado August 4, 2010 12:03 AM BST
Torres has already won a World Cup and Euro Championship. Not all players are obsessed with winning trophies. Perhaps he is being loyal to Liverpool, which is a good thing.
Report Swardean August 4, 2010 12:04 AM BST
It would be fair to say that Liverpool are my least fav club.  But all credit to Torres for some loyality and respect to contracts
Report NobbyClarke August 4, 2010 12:05 AM BST
No one made an offer for injury prone 'nado.

Real, Barca. Chelsea & even City never made a bid. Of course he's pleased to have a £121,000 a week contract at Liverpool and a Physio's table at Melwood.
Report Avocado August 4, 2010 12:06 AM BST
No one wants him because he's injured all the time.
Report AJSmith August 4, 2010 12:06 AM BST

Nobby you are the King of Seethe Laugh

Chelski & Man City both desperate to sign him so get real. Unlike a lot of modern day footballers he has shown loyalty and commitment. In terms of personal class he is leagues ahead of the likes of Ronaldo who merely used Man Ure as a stepping stone and had no love for his employers whatsoever!
Report buddeliea August 4, 2010 7:42 AM BST
Well said Charwell.
Nobby, for once why dont you actually put your awful bias to one side, and actually give the guy some credit.

chelsea never made an offer for him they have said all along they dont want him(now wether thats true is a diff matter) but no bid or enquiry about him was made from chelsea.

I know that Nobby. Funny he never signed for United - and the fact that they were never even linked with him
Report NobbyClarke August 4, 2010 10:05 AM BST
charwell. & buddeliea Why can't you just accept the facts?

No one made an offer for Torres, that's why he's staying at Liverpool. He had a very poor World Cup, was dropped for the final and when he did come on he tore a muscle within in minutes.

Torres was very good a couple of years ago but he's now injury prone and those injuries are wrecking his career.
Report Swardean August 4, 2010 10:21 AM BST
Charwell, bit harsh on Ronaldo.  Remember the guy did 7 years at United.  Not really a stepping stone in my opinion.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER August 4, 2010 10:29 AM BST
I could be wrong but had torres come out and said he wanted to move I am sure someone would have been interested
Report BonVivvy August 4, 2010 11:12 AM BST
Personally think a fit all season motivated Torres and Cole could work wonders alongside Gerrard and co.However the fitness of Torress really is the crux of the matter here.

Being in the europa leauge will also take  a lot of pressure off the squad and still allow them to put out decent teams while keeping things tip top for their premiership ambitions.

Roy could really get this team playing with some unity and i also belive the players will be playing for Roy as opposed to the always at odds Rafa

No doubt having the tiddlywink in the wings is also a positive factor as im sure RH will want a defender or so and strengthen as the season goes on.Anyone who got 3.2 to finish in the top has had the gift of a lifetime. This season will be decided on how the "top 6" fare against each other.Lets not forget that you cant have 6 teams at the top table..it just wont fit....
Report C1rclemaster August 4, 2010 11:12 AM BST

Mug indeed!!

Nobby, his injuries are a problem i agree, but he is still young enough to get over them, and if he does he is a serious asset to have for sure.None of us know for certain why he has chosen to stay, and i choose to believe him.Up to you what you do,but it seems to me you allow your bias against Liverpool to dictate your reasoning.
Report NobbyClarke August 4, 2010 12:34 PM BST
But he's not getting over these injuries. It's one thing after another and usually that means there is an underlying problem.
Report ours4keeps August 4, 2010 12:50 PM BST
I remember Giggs struggling with one hamstring injury after another till his mid-20's, a simple solution was found (swap his sports car for something more sensible???) and he's just gone and broken the Utd appearance record.

Injuries clear up.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER August 4, 2010 12:53 PM BST
to be fair to nobby, he may know more than most on the subject, as his team signed micheal owen and owen hargreaves,
Report Goretski August 4, 2010 12:53 PM BST
nobby the reason why he's injured is because of the amount of football he's been playing over the last 3 years, the kid hasnt had a break with all the summer tournaments he's been playing in HTH
Report NobbyClarke August 4, 2010 12:59 PM BST
REDUNDANT PUNTER You've hit the nail on the head there. United paid £17m for Hargreaves when he had tendinitis in his knees.

Do you think near bankrupt Barca or Chelsea are going to offer £70m or £80m for Torres with his recent record?

Torres will be at Liverpool for the duration of his contract imho.
Report Pass&Move August 4, 2010 1:07 PM BST
lol @ Nobby

Give it up mate your making yourself look like a t*t now, you keep spinning it to suit your agenda but your deluded if you think now one fancied Torres.
Report Eeternaloptimist August 4, 2010 1:15 PM BST
It is all about risk versus reward. At £30 million you would take a chance on his fitness but Liverpool wouldn't take such an amount for him but at £70 million you would be unlikely to risk it given his recent history. Ergo he stays where he is and the fans get smeared with bullshiit about loyalty.

I know a crocked striker when see one and I made a nice profit Laying Torres to score in the World Cup.

How many games did Torres play last season when he was actually fully fit? Benitez badly managed Torres' fitness and the lad is paying the price for it now.
Report Goretski August 4, 2010 4:52 PM BST
torres had 2 knee ops 2 months before the world cup you tool!

going on your assumption of how many games did he play last year when he was fit?.... i dont know!

but what i do know is he played 22 league games and scored 18 times.....and all that when he wasnt fit!! IMPRESSIVE

Torres is getting constant niggles becasue he hasnt had a break from football in 3 years!
Report charwell. August 4, 2010 6:03 PM BST
Nobby you are a complete and utter embarrasment. You spin any news regarding LFC however you want to and don't let facts get in the way. Torres is one of the hottest properties in world football and if he said he wanted to go then there would be no shortage of takers. That is a fact! If he did say he wanted to leave you would be the first to say 'he wants to move to a big club, huge loss for LFC etc etc.

Your obsession with all things anti LFC just makes you look silly to every neutral. Your hatred of LFC is evidently much stronger of your love for MUFC. And that is very sad indeed.
Report NobbyClarke August 4, 2010 6:12 PM BST
charwell. don't get your knickers in such a twist.

If Torres was fit I'm sure Real, Barca, Chelsea & City would be interested in him but the fact is he is not fit so none of them were prepared to meet Liverpool's valuation.

If Torres was so committed to Liverpool he would have come out at the end of the season and said he'd be staying. Instead he came out with the usual rubbish (just like Gerrard & Fabregas) that he's too busy concentrating on the World Cup to issue a 15 word statement.
Report blackpooltower August 4, 2010 9:04 PM BST
Surely Joe Cole and Torres can't both be wrong. They are agreed Liverpool are Britain's greatest club
