I don't think the arensal fans are stopping him from leaving.

"If Barca came up with the money."

Yes, and that's a fairly important piece of the conundrum isn't it...
Report sintonian August 3, 2010 1:06 PM BST
Laugh @ sj.

what are Arsenal supposed to do exactly ? Tell Wenger to sell him and override his management.

Report sintonian August 3, 2010 1:07 PM BST
it's a matter of opining, though, isn;t it sj
Report cgull August 3, 2010 1:09 PM BST
Arsenal are doing the right thing.  Why should they let him go on the cheap?  If Barca will pay a gazillion for Ibrahimovich and chuck in Eto'o they are in no position to complain about value.
Report ours4keeps August 3, 2010 1:10 PM BST
Are there truly any Arsenal fans who think Fabregas wants to stay there?

I don't think so, they are just accepting the modern game and Wenger, as much as I dislike him, has played this brilliantly by simply telling Barca to do one. Simple as. They can try to unsettle the player all they like, use emotional blackmail to make him staying at Arsenal almost untenable but Wenger's simply saying "don't care". Whether he has a titty lip or not Cesc will have to be back at the  club as soon as his manager snaps his fingers. And Barca are going to have to either break the bank or turn their attention elsewhere.

i understand the arsenal boards point of view but not the fans, same as ashley cole if he wants to leave chelsea i'd tell him ok mate fark off
Report jamesbeckton. August 3, 2010 1:11 PM BST
They will need to spend a lot of money to replace him so need to charge a lot.

It seems like although Fabregas would like to go it would not be the end of the world for him if he were to stay
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 1:12 PM BST
yes james he is playing both sets of fans really well
Report sintonian August 3, 2010 1:16 PM BST
Exactly Cgull. We told them to rack of via Peter Hill-Wood before the WC. And Wenger told them to do one just last week. Inbetween we have kept quiet, whilst everyone connected to Barcelona from the Directors down to the tea lady have worked themselves into a right state about him possibly staying in England. They have tried every trick in the book, aswell.
Report cgull August 3, 2010 1:17 PM BST
Ok mate fark off tends to impact the transfer fee though!  I can't comment on the Arsenal fans' opinions, I haven't spoken to any on the subject apart from a snippet from Tricky today.

sj - how do you know the players actively want to be there? Do you think if Barca came knocking for Essien, Cech or Drogba their heads wouldn't be turned?

Everyone knows about Cesc's roots in Barca so I don't think any Arsenal fan will ultimately begrudge him his dream move back but, at the same time, if you sold every player who ever said they weren't happy and would rather play for the biggest and best club around you'd need 3-figure squad numbers.
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 1:36 PM BST

i just cant understand if a player wants to go why fans still want him at there club,i would really hate essien to leave but if he was making the noises fabregas is i would say ok off you go mate.
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 1:37 PM BST
lest not forget this dream move back is to a club (who i presume) showed him the door
Report cgull August 3, 2010 1:40 PM BST
tbf, you'd be hard pushed to find 11 players that want to play for Chelsea rather than the pay packet wouldn't you.  I understand your point SJ but you'd be without Drogba, Lampard, Cole (A), Carvalho, Terry (if you take the City thing at face value) to name but five if you offed everyone that flirted with another club.  Balancing act innit imo.
Report sintonian August 3, 2010 1:40 PM BST
sj no offence mate but you do seem out of touch. Cesc left at a young age when no contracts were given to players of that age. We offered him a contract to join, and he accepted.  The Barcelona board also battled for compensation, which they got to the tune of £1m.
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 1:43 PM BST
sint dont think i am out of touch mate(but if thats your opinion thats fair enough)so barca offered him a contract? if not why not?(did they think he was not good enough)
Report ours4keeps August 3, 2010 1:48 PM BST
sj - do you think Terry would have stayed if the club hadn't guaranteed a bumper pay rise on the back of City's interest?
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 1:51 PM BST
look imo i dont think he should have got offered a new contract,i dont think chelsea should have gave frank the extra year, maybe its the old football fan in me,but i dont like players p1ssing on the fans, thinking we are all guliable
Report sintonian August 3, 2010 1:52 PM BST
The rules back then in Europe, as far as I am aware, did not allow clubs to offer contracts to players of a certain age. In England we could.

I think that is it. Cgull might know ?
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 1:54 PM BST
so barca couldn't offer their own player a contract,or did they bomb him?
Report ours4keeps August 3, 2010 1:58 PM BST
so you think Arsenal should bomb Cesc out for him wanting to play for his boyhood club (who also happen to be the best and most glamorous around at the mo) but are happy to still support a player who engieneered hiself into a position where he would have left for a 2nd rate team if he hadn't been given a big wodge of cash.
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 1:59 PM BST
lol its on barca tv now them pushing for him to move to them
Report sintonian August 3, 2010 1:59 PM BST
O4K, Chelsea fans are desperate for Cesc to leave imo. As demonstarted here by sj and Bunter.
Report Arsene August 3, 2010 2:00 PM BST
sj - At the time, Spanish law meant they couldn't offer a professional deal to someone his age. In England we could and so he signed for us, rather than being left in limbo for a year (or two) before Barca would be able to offer one.

My view on the Fabregas thing is that he probably wants to go. All the rumour before and at the time of the World Cup just seemed Barca peddled bull5hit from the likes of Balague and Hunter and the Barca players, but since then he has had ample time to make comment or to tell the likes of Pique, Xavi, Iniesta & Puyol to shut the fcuk up. He has chosen not to do that which is why we're still going over this same old sh1te.

To me, he needs to grow a pair and say whether he wants to stay or go. If he wants to stay, fine. If he wants to go, then just say it but also accept that by saying you want to leave puts you on the open market. We will set the asking price which if Barca match then off he goes but should another offer comes in, higher than Barca bid, then be prepared to go somewhere else. The thing I believe is holding him back is that he knows he won't be a first choice player at Barca and that is no use to him.

When he gets back to training on Thursday he needs to speak out and settle it once and for all (for this season anyway!)
Report MRGRUMPY1 August 3, 2010 2:02 PM BST
Would imagine 99% of EPL players heads would turn if Barcelona showed any interest.

If Fabregas stays as i believe he will, you can guarantee that barring injuries he will continue to give 100% for Arsenal.
Report bornisthekingofSB August 3, 2010 2:05 PM BST
sint why am i desperate never plays well against us,i said the same when terry and lampard were at it and if cole wants to leave let him go,now is that desperate?

It is just the impression I get, that is all sj. I could be wrong of course.
Report arsenalman August 3, 2010 2:08 PM BST
He is under extreme pressure to go from fellow Spanish internationals and his family but the one factor that remains the most important is that Arsene Wenger his mentor wont sell him. Arteta will be signed by barca instead.I agree that Cesc will give 100% for arsenal next season as he always has.

Report sintonian August 3, 2010 2:13 PM BST
I think Barca are also realising they need to make the signing happen this summer, if they can, as next year there could well be more than one interested party. You can sense the pressue from here in England ! imo That is why all their players are singing like birds.
Report Lix August 3, 2010 2:13 PM BST
Given Barca have just received £24m for a limited player like yaya Toure (who is 27 btw) they are well within their rights to ask for £40m as a bare miinimum for cesc.
