It's important not to create monopolys with tv coverage etc but when the EU/UK starts throwing it's weight around it is normally US the end user who ends up paying more when we have to suscribe to 2 channels (ESPN/SKY Sports) and it ends up costing us more anyway because of "competition rules". I can understand Sky who are being FORCED through these competition rules to give SS1 AND SS2 to other suppliers on the cheap wholesale acting this way. If I put all the effort and money into the infrastructure of the company then got told to sell the product to rivals at a certain price I would not be happy.

Ukmalllia - I understand you reasoning but moving SSN from freeview is juts petty and greedy.
I have 2 TVs nearby and on a Saturday I'm watching racing on SKY and Jeff and the lads on SSN with all the latest scores coming in. Now I will have to be flicking between the 2.. madness. |
By:
Ukm, in that case people who subscribe to Sky should demand that they lower their prices to compensate for the reduced content. If enough people threatened to quit if they didn't, rest assured prices would come down!

hungry coonts! simple as that!

I also think it is petty.
I've tried the leaving $ky act, they said, ok then and duly cancelled it. Oops. ![]() They knew full well I live in a non cable area. I'll get my equaliser on sky one day. |
By:
Seems like SKY has stopped falling for that trick.
By:
My experience is the same as MC R, turtlehead. They don't seem to care.
Lmao MC ![]() I know what you mean exactly, you call up giving it the big "Im cancelling unless this is sorted out" When you get the reply "No problem sir" you feel a little shocked then and say "well leave it for now but I will be calling back" |
By:
maybe we should start a campaign to get at least 20,000 people to cancel their subs.
£50 x 20,000 every month is a lot of money to SKY |
By:
As if that would happen.
By:
Nothing shrewd about it, they are simply abusing a near monopoly position. I'm sure the regulator would be interested to hear about it.
By:
Funny thread as if you lot would ever leave Sky
By:
they'll never let you leave, if you cancel they torture you for months trying to get you back. some scottish gimp phoned me about 10 times before they finally left me alone.

When you get the reply "No problem sir" you feel a little shocked They will still call back after cancelation with an offer to return though. |
By:
That is true tobery, a friend got in debt with them and owed them about £200 in unpaid bills so he got cut off, anyhow a few months later they were bugging him to "come back" and basically he got a offer last week to clear 50% of the debt if he comes back and he made some calls and I think he got them down to paying 10% of what he owed £20 and got reconnected

Work for Sky it is free then!!
Customers like to moan about the price but for £50 a month it is probably the best entertainment you can buy. How many hours a day do you spend watching Sky? Multiply that by days and weeks and I think you will find it is fantastic value for money. Take the misses out and how much change do you get out of £100? Or one night out with the lads is always more than £50. Its all about perception. |

Oh well, back to BBC Parliament. I do love watching those Lords discussing a good bill.

Bring back the big game 3 o clock saturday i say!!

I can see why Sky have taken SSN off freeview. They have been giving quite a lot away for free by having it on freeview, including things like showing Premiership and Champions League goals and action.
By:
^^^ which hasn't cost them a single penny in lost revenue, especially when you can get the same content elsewhere free of charge anyway. People have hardly stopped subscribing to all the live games simply because of a few minutes of highlights repeated each half hour or so!
By:
It's unfortunate for people who haven't got SKY or Cable. I've got freeview at work so I'll miss watching SSN at work. It's pretty handy for information and watching highlights.
By:
Up till this point Sky have been using Sky Sports News on freeview/ BT as ADVERTISING platforum to get new customers. If you watch SSN as I do for a few hours, alls you see is sky tv advertised. Now that BT are getting SS1 AND SS2, sky had to do something IMO and this is it, removed SSN and then move soccer saturday to SSN only. Obviously a move to deter customers from defecting to BT and or freeview.
By:
dont the bbc offer a similar soccer saturday service to freeview customers?
i guess it wont be quite the same without the usual big names but they will probably do some work on it, seen as its one of skys top shows in the ratings. if the bbc get a couple of decent studio pundits in then everybody will start watching them there, they already have plenty of the football league covered by 5 live as it is, not withstanding their football league highlights program and match of the day, theyll have cameras at all the games in the same way sky do. |
By:
the bbc have garth crooks.
![]() anyone will a shread of sanity would rather listen to the radio. oh sh1t alan green is on there! ffs |

So, not only are Sky now forced to surrender some of their Premier League rights, meaning that we have to pay two subscription fees when previously one would do, but now Ofcom's latest stunt has spooked the main player into being even more anticompetitive.
Thanks, Ofcom - keep up the good work [:thumbs up and cheesy grin:] |
By:
I'm not that bothered about watching the Premiership. I prefer the Champions League, which I can watch some of for free on ITV.

The answer is or was simple. Don't pay for it in the first place, and none of this would have happened.
I look forward to the day when Sky tires of football, and the EPL house of cards comes tumbling down. |
