Needs to learn how to cross. But he's probably as good as Walcott already.
Report sofaking August 2, 2010 12:40 PM BST
who does he play for?
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 1:38 PM BST
Liverpool
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 4:03 PM BST
CCM,

I was talking to a mate about him the other day and thats exactly what I said, he basically can do everything the hype merchant, Theo Walcott can do already, yet is far less exposed and will hopefully improve unlike Theo.
Report sintonian August 2, 2010 4:20 PM BST
Not seen any of this lad so cant comment.

But Insua was considered the best young LB in the PL two seasons ago, iirc.
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 4:24 PM BST
No he wasnt Sint! He was considered a decent prospect, and he was tbf. Not nearly as bad as some would have you believe considering how many games he has had to play for a young lad. If we get £5m for him that will be good business and I think it proves he was the decent prospect we said he was.

I would honestly say Amoo lad isnt far behind Walcott, at the same age of course. Very, very similar type of player. Walcott hasnt really progressed and Amoo might not, but certainly deserves the hype now that Walcott did at the same stage. In my opinion of course.
Report flee August 2, 2010 4:28 PM BST
The lad is gash, like the rest of the over hyped team.
Report G1_Jockey_4 August 2, 2010 4:30 PM BST
Amoo just needs to gain experience and snap out of that anoying habit gerarrd has.

not being alert enough.
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 4:32 PM BST
His first senior game and he literally ripped the full back a new ring on about 8 separate occasions.
Report G1_Jockey_4 August 2, 2010 4:35 PM BST
he is quick and composed when in full flight and fack does he run like a rolls royce

experience will help the footballing brain i hope.

no point having speed to burn and a brain cell thats on another planet (sorry walcott)
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 4:37 PM BST
Or sorry Babel!

Makes you realise what a bad buy he was for £11m.
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 4:40 PM BST
Hindsight is 20/20

Babel was the hottest property on the market after he ripped up the underage championships for Holland.

I was over the moon when we signed him and thankful to Rafa for beating off a host of big European clubs for his signature.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER August 2, 2010 4:41 PM BST
I have seen bits and pieces of him, in the reserves and a couple of pre season games, I would rather have walcott myself, however I imagine amoo has potential, but he needs to be breaking into the first team squad to prove himself imo
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 4:44 PM BST
He's already like a million times better than last seasons back up wing forward, Nabil El ZharCry
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 4:47 PM BST
We've never had so many good young prospects imo. Shows how Rafa was starting to do well in this dept.

Really hope Roy can continue the good work, as he has never really done this. That is, stay at a club and build a long term future like Rafa was.
Report sintonian August 2, 2010 4:52 PM BST
CCM, what do you regard as a decent prospect then ? If a Utd,Chelsea or Liverpool says to me they have Joe Bloggs who plays up front for the reserves and is considered a decent prospect, I would assume it is by their standards, i'e good enough to play for them in the future.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER August 2, 2010 4:52 PM BST
I would like to see the club/manager name a carling cup team/squad with the message that this squad will be based mainly of young/reserve/fringe prospect/players and will be expected to take the club as far as possible in the competition, would also like to see a few first teamers involved to help progress and develop, but it would give such players experience and confidence imo

Off the top of my head, all of those I mentioned have a decent chance to make it at Liverpool imo.

Ayal has been woeful everytime I have seen him play, about four or fives times.

Cant comment on the others although was very impressed with Pacheo in the u-19 final last week. He should be being used as sub now,imo

Report sintonian August 2, 2010 4:58 PM BST
* Ayala.
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 4:58 PM BST
I would say decent prospect means he could become a first team regular yes. Which Insua did. But I dont think anyone thought he was going to be one of the best LB's in the Prem. To come through, play well and be sold on for £5m when a bit short of top class would do me just fine tbh.

We have quite a few 'decent' prospects who I would be pretty sure will make first team appearances like Ayala, Darby, Ince, Spearing, Suso, Sterling (even though I am yet to be convinced just how good these players are). We have a few the next level up who look like they could be regulars in a decent side like Kelly, Shelvey, Dalla Valle, Robinson. And we have 2 genuinely exciting players in Amoo and Pacheco. Imo.
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 4:58 PM BST
Me too RP. An Arsenal approach to the comp, rather than Rafa using the second team of established players.

Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:02 PM BST
He's definitely not top class JD, but he has looked good pre-season. Better than ever imo. He will make the squad and be a fringe player for lesser games. Which is what me and Sint are talking about.

I think he will reach the standars for a lower Prem club level in time. Thats it.
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 5:03 PM BST
Nah, Spearing is awful, he'l be lucky to make it as a league 1 regular center midfielder.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER August 2, 2010 5:04 PM BST
The problem arises when it comes to opportunities, reserve team football is a bit of  joke but the top prospects should be included in the  squad, and given time in games, especially at home when winning
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:07 PM BST
Thats harsh imo JD. Never going to make it at Liverpool, but better than that.
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 5:10 PM BST
What makes me laugh and despair at the same time is take Man City as an example, they give token run outs to promising young players like Dedryck Boyata yet we all know he has zero chance of making it at that club when they are buying ready made products in his position.

The one good thing to come out of our horrible ownership mess is that with less money available, the more chance our kids will get.

Steven Warnock would be first choice left back by now, if he was coming through the last couple of seasons.
Report Phone-Keys-Wallet August 2, 2010 5:10 PM BST
for spearing read danny guthrie or darren potter
for darby read david raven or antonio barragan
for ayala read zak whitbread

there' still a space for the modern day richie partridge though
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 5:12 PM BST
Don't forget John Welsh!
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:12 PM BST
PKW. Spearing probably is about Guthrie's level. He's played for newcastle hasnt he?

Darby too lightweight, probbaly a Champ[ionship standard RB.

Ayala some way better than Whitbread for me.

Some may think I was suggesting thse lads are all going to make it at Liverpool. I wasnt.
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:15 PM BST
Welsh was the next SG Laugh

So hard to tell at that age isnt it. Le Tallec was going to be a world beater too.
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 5:16 PM BST
Problem with Zak Whitbread was his taste of first team football went to his head, and he thought he was a young Sami Hyypia.

Jack Hobbs was a better center half, thought he deserved more of a chance tbh.
Report Phone-Keys-Wallet August 2, 2010 5:16 PM BST
to be fair I rate ayala, but I also rated whitbread, but that's 5 senior centre-halfs now with wilson and with ayala and kelly battling in there along with mavinga, where are these opportunities going to come from?

I think more than likely in the wafer and league cups he'll play a solid spine though the middle with your younger players out wide, similar to the first leg last week so on that basis I struggle to see how many opportunities the youngsters will get

I also rate bruna BTW
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:17 PM BST
Agree about Whitbread JD. Have backed Leicester in the Championship next season and will watch Hobbs closely. Think we definitely binned him too soon as well.

CCM,

In fairness to Le Tallec, it was Ged who heeped the pressure on with his, "next Zidane comment"

But yeah, you never know with youngsters, its always a speculation game, I mean, some people at the club thought Florent Sinama Pongolle was the next Pele!

Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:31 PM BST
Depends on your point of view SHP. Walcott was a very exciting kid, as is Amoo. He just didnt train on or progress. Imagine how could he could have been?
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 5:32 PM BST
Amoo actually has far better lateral movement that Walcott does, I'd compare him more to Aaron Lennon.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER August 2, 2010 5:32 PM BST
think were bieng a bit harsh on walcott, he is playing for a top club and has international caps and goals, thats success imo
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:37 PM BST
Yeah fair point RP. Amoo has a long way to become a first team regular and to get caps and score for England.
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 5:42 PM BST
Of course were all just speculating, but I fancy Amoo to have a more successful football career than Walcott, and that's without the help of the hype machine that got Walcott to a World Cup without the manager witnessing him play.
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:45 PM BST
Thats big chat JD!

Too early to write off Walcott imo. I think he should look to drop a level. A team lower down the Prem who would get him playing every week. He's had the benefit of Wengers vast knowledge and skills already. He needs games now.
Report Can't Catch Me August 2, 2010 5:46 PM BST
Like Babel. His profile is very, very simlar to Walcotts.

That said, I think I'd have Amoo ahead of Babel in our pecking order.
Report REDUNDANT PUNTER August 2, 2010 5:49 PM BST
I have to say, for the last 12/18 months I ave been telling my mates (non going liverpol fans) that we have a lad who looks like he could become top class and he should be making the first team squad (many match going fans will ave also spotted this)is name was paccecho and he was spanish and very young, they still dont know of him really, and probably dont know about his exploits in the u19 competition, but I could spot him amongst the reserves as the one most likely, I have watched amoo also and he did not give me that feel, but it could be his position as wingers are often in and out perfromers, and I have been more impressed with him latterly, could well be a very decent prospect (hope so)if e can emulate walcott that would be very good progress at an early stage
Report JustinDaffodil August 2, 2010 5:51 PM BST
He should be, purely for the fact that he's "home grown" and we could use the 8-10 million from the babel sale to reinvest in other areas.

Do you think Birmingham will come back in with a bid for him, they've signed fcuk all so far this summer bar a pish Manc goalkeeper to replace Hart.
Report weesantefisio August 2, 2010 5:54 PM BST
