Never do them normally, but laid Man City and Liverpool. Simples.

Gives me some added fund to slam onto the baseball tonight :-)Silly

Great theory.  2 game sample.  Proves the point beyond doubt.  Lump on.
Report T-Rigg August 1, 2010 10:57 PM BST
OK.
Report Onions August 1, 2010 10:59 PM BST
Haha, there is no theory at all, two games two winners. It's easy.

Shame the real season starts soon ;-)
Report Danyo August 1, 2010 11:12 PM BST
curious about your baseball picks tonight Onions.
I'm not a baseball expert but in the mood to gamble. [;)]

City were a good lay last night.  I knew that at the time, but felt obliged to back them, my team and all.

Liverpool don't cross my radar.  No idea what they are doing, insignificant team, assume they lost?

Friendly matches are commonly accepted as 'no bet' material by the Pullein family on here. I do agree with you r general point that there may be money to be made with a bit of research.
Report Onions August 1, 2010 11:19 PM BST
I totally agree with you, I never bet on them but Man City are 2/1 looked too short when the line ups came out, and I went to the Liverpool game so it was a bit of added excitment and lucky enough both paid off.

I've not really looked too mch at the baseball so not too sure myself but I shall let you know as soon as I decide and get matched.

Bit of aftertiming aye Laugh Ooo smileys at the bottom hmmm Lay La tonight
Report regular joe August 1, 2010 11:27 PM BST
It's a very annoying thing, team loyalty.  I've seen 4 of the 5 pre-season games we've played live and stayed up till 4am to listen to the other on Portland radio.  I have seen absolutely nothing to justify us being 2-1 against the European champions yesterday (backed in to around 6-4 at kickoff).  None of the new signings were in America (bar Yaya) and Mancini had to go home for family reasons.

I would have layed it to the max... if I weren't a totally biased fan.  instead I shoved #20 on us to win, and hated myself as I pressed submit.

-----------------

No aftertiming at all, I said yesterday in the Man City game I was laying Man City, I also then told Paddee I was laying Liverpool as I was flying to Germany to watch the game, and I did that.
Report Paddee August 1, 2010 11:49 PM BST
Why did you go to Germany by the way?

Also, you should have got on the Milan lay, was still 13/10 last night ;)

Backed Villa tonight as well, easy peasy.
Report Onions August 1, 2010 11:51 PM BST
Ah bad times, I was going to lay Leicester yesterday too, 21/10 but talked myself out of it for some reason. I seemed to have made out in my head we could beat Sunderland, although in fairness we were not all that bad.

The big problem with fan loyalty is backing your team each week, even if it is onnly a few quid, it all mounts up, and each time you do it you know its stupid. The year we went down to league 1 I backed us to win the league....oops haha
Report Max and Paddy August 1, 2010 11:55 PM BST
Onions - the season we finished fourth, I had the biggest bet of my life on us to be relegated at 11/2 Laugh
Report Onions August 1, 2010 11:58 PM BST
Haha, nice. Laugh

I backed Leicester 3-1, Chopra first scorer in our play off game, if the lineo wasn't blind and saw he was offside it would have been the best bet ever lol.

I might lay us every week, can see us being a short price at home every other week, and well, I won't mind losing a few quid each time
Report Paddee August 2, 2010 12:04 AM BST
I backed Liverpool to win the league last year, haha.

I think Leeds and Forest are going to be stupidly short at home in every other week this season in your league.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 12:06 AM BST
I'm not sure about Leeds, keep in mind they flopped twice in league 1. I agree good at home, but away I think they will struggle.
Report regular joe August 2, 2010 12:06 AM BST
I've tried the oppose City so I can't lose either way theory.

Problem is if you put enough on it you really want the other team to win.  If you don't put enough on it, why bother?

Even if you think your team's win odds are no value, there is always a more palatable betting option (players to score, corners, bookings etc).  My judas betting days are over.

Problem is if you put enough on it you really want the other team to win.

No chance! I lost a sizeable three-figure sum when we knocked the Shíte out of the FA Cup last year and I couldn't have been happier.
Report regular joe August 2, 2010 12:13 AM BST
Yeah, M&P, but if it had been a sizeable four-figure sum how would you have felt?

The same?  ok...

if it had been a sizeable five-figure sum how would you have felt?

I certainly have a price to be happy for United to win a Manchester derby.
Report wondersobright August 2, 2010 12:17 AM BST
How did Leicester play Onions?
Report Max and Paddy August 2, 2010 12:21 AM BST
The amount I lost was "enough"! I had a decent bet beforehand, but then (after getting on it at 12.30pm) I kept topping up through the game.

It's fair to say that you might want to lose a derby for £10k, for example, but short of backing them at 200 or something silly like that I'd never stake enough to win that much when we're playing them.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 12:22 AM BST
I wasn't there so don't really know, but according to the commentators we were amazing in the first half.

DJ missed two sitters inside 6 yards, same with Morrison twice and Howard missed a free header. Minus not being able to finish we sounded like we were making a lot of chances.

2nd half we died off, goalkeeping mistake cost us, but they should have made it 3-1, Campbell and Bent vs Weale, and they blazed it over the bar.
Report wondersobright August 2, 2010 12:24 AM BST
Ok ta, saw King's goal on SSN but was out most of Saturday.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 12:27 AM BST
I did't know they were showing it on tele, not seen it yet either lol.

I'll have a look online
Report wondersobright August 2, 2010 12:31 AM BST
Wasn't live, only in their roundup of goals last night.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 12:32 AM BST
Yeah, I know, found the goals on youtube. Decent finish from King, and great stuff again from Fryatt
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 12:39 AM BST
so what's the bet? dodgers or giants? [;)]
Report Onions August 2, 2010 12:42 AM BST
Giants.

Forgot it was Sunday, so only the late game left. Decent price on San Fran too.

Giants pitching not good..
Report Onions August 2, 2010 1:31 AM BST
You watching it?

I'm watching the hangover at the moment, but will stick it on soon. Only downside with MLB is the lack of trading.
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 1:41 AM BST
no, just looking at the MLB ticker. Giants pitcher had something like 11 Strikes 10 balls... and generated some walks.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 1:45 AM BST
Chance blown there. Man on 1st and 2nd, 1 out.

Damn, ah well, still 0-0 so no damage
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 2:13 AM BST
just a matter of time for a dodgers score. can't Giants change the picher? [:(]
Report Onions August 2, 2010 2:13 AM BST
They can do yeah, but they will try not too.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 2:14 AM BST
We got out of danger there, big time.

Hopefully they will start getting some runs

Watching it now, so hopefully that brings us some luck

I only Bet on NBA whenever there is no NFL or MLB, although I've had some decent wins on it in fairness.

I've had some amazing 1.01 lays in NBA
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 2:31 AM BST
I only bet on MLB when there's no NBA ;-)

my biggest win was over a year ago when I layed the Denver Nuggets at home pre-match at 1.03... I just knew they would lose that day (against Oklahoma it was I think). the odds were ridiculous.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 2:34 AM BST
Nice. I tend to lay ovber 1.85 or so, if there is 110 points in the first half, because the game always seems to tighten up, and the makrt reaction is nuts.
Report Onions August 2, 2010 2:35 AM BST
Think my biggest win, minus my very lucky Placepot £5 got me £6,000 was on NFL, but I did risk £3,000. Nearly died watching the game lol
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 2:39 AM BST
lol I had my biggest loss in the Superbowl this year. 1100 euros because Peyton Manning is such a failure [>o]
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 2:40 AM BST
almost like Matt Cain... if we lose here that is [;)]
Report Onions August 2, 2010 2:41 AM BST
I backed New Orleans, shame I didn't wait ten minutes, and got a monster price.

I had Arizona last year at 40's, traded out when Larry scored his TD, but didn't level out my trade and hardly won a thing. Was gutted when Pittsburgh (ward) caught that ball
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 2:50 AM BST
would like to watch this game now too, but can't find any streams
Report Onions August 2, 2010 2:50 AM BST
Close to a homer there.

Very unlucky, but we are on second base

Report Onions August 2, 2010 3:49 AM BST
Pitcher getting tired, so gotta change him
Report Danyo August 2, 2010 3:50 AM BST
isn't it a bit risky to change to a new guy in the last inning? isn't even warm yet etc.
