I love a go at this each season as the win potential is massive for small stakes and i urge you all to have a crack and post your bets.

I have twice managed to get 3 out of 4.

In 1999 Sunderland let me down when Bradford came from behind to beat Wolves at Molineux on the final day of the season.

Last season it was Norwich who scuppered the bet despite winning the league, victory going to Swindon

This years bet A 50p EW lucky 15 @ Laddies

Premiership Arsenal +10
Championship Norwich +13
Division 1 Southampton Scr
Division 2 Burton +19

Returns a juicy £68000+ (even to 10p stakes nearly £14k)

Roll on May 2011

Good Luck with whatever you pick and enjoy the season!

Where do you get the handicap picks?
Report den perry July 28, 2010 12:33 AM BST
I was all set to do the following, with no handicap, but the handicap looks good there

for the record, I've picked a 25cen each way lucky 31
Man city @ 5/1
Forest 15/2
peterboro 10/1
torquay 25/1
York 12/1

.25 stake costs 7.75 and returns 75,410 with paddy power....ah the optimism

also going for an ew patent(long shots) for top scorer

Beckford @ 80/1
earnshaw 16/1
stokes at 7/2

Report MMisapr1ck July 28, 2010 12:57 AM BST
Yeah i understand that, i mean whats the difference? Is it just extra money returned, as E/W is usually on horses places, where as on a lucky 15 you have doubles singles etc so is it just like putting £2 on each instead of £1
Report den perry July 28, 2010 1:03 AM BST
yeah, but you can do an ew lucky 15 on the horses as well. in fotball, its probably 1/2 the odds for 2nd place in prem league, and 1/3 odds top three places in the other divisions, but diff ookies have differant rules. verify when doing the bet, as I've just checked Paddy Power's site and the info is differant from their phone betting!!!

Report bigphatairyarse July 28, 2010 8:33 AM BST
Most bookmakers are paying first 4 in the handicap betting

You are guaranteed a small profit even if you only get 2 places

£1 ew lucky15 pays at least £36 with 2 places

£241 with 3 places
£1578 with 4 places

Then your returns go up the more winners you pick!

This really is the best ante-post bet around for the soccer student to pit their wits against the old enemy imo

i have never done a bet like this before...i just usually do a league winners bet

i am really interested in trying this bet for the first time but i really dont know how i should pick my selections....

any tips/thought for the new lad??!!
Report bigphatairyarse July 28, 2010 11:27 AM BST
Its all about selecting teams you think will do better than the bookmakers think.

For example the Handicap Premiership winners over the last 2 seasons have been
2009 Stoke
2010 Birmingham

Whilst the Championship and Division 2 Handicaps winners last season were the runaway League winners Newcastle and Notts Co respectively. (Division 1 was won by Swindon).

It pays to look at bookmakers lists. (I'll use Laddies and Bl Sq to highlight examples)

Of those posted already the points spread on the Championship is narrower with Bl Sq than Laddies. So if you think one of the favourites will do well, then bet them with Bl Sq, on the other hand the outsiders to win the league would be a beter bet with Laddies on the Handicap.
There are 20 teams handicapped by Laddies that have a bigger head handicap than with BL Sq, the best of which is Ipsich with 6 extra.

If you fancy Middlesbor, Forest, Bristol C or Derby then you bet them with Bl Sq.

So work down all 4 divisions, select the 4 teams youy think will do better than the bookmakers think, seek out the best handicaps, get your bet on and enjoy.

Liverpool gaining 13 points on yours???

What am I missing?
Report bigphatairyarse July 28, 2010 8:43 PM BST
With the b/f handicap it pays you to bet teams who appear to have an easy first 5/6/7 matches  and lay those you think will have a tough start - gives you a trading opportunity later to maximise your profit

Sunderlands looks ok to start and i will be a bettor, but Stoke look to have a tough start hence i will lay, together with the other 7 teams i believe will accumulate less than 80 points.

btw, the "max" bet of the season is Blackpool to finish bottom - have availed myself of 11/10
Report bigphatairyarse July 28, 2010 9:02 PM BST
CHELSEA TO WIN THE LEAGUE WITH 80 IS MORE PROBABLE THAN THE 86 THEY WON IT WITH LAST YEAR!!!

The competition is much tougher this year over last and a number of clubs will start to make inroads.

Arsenal, Liverpool & Man City will all do better this season than last.

I firmly believe Roy is a better manager than "Rafa" and the Reds will be less prone to the mistakes they made last year ie to the tune of 10 points or even more.

That is what is great about foobtall, people have many different opinions, it these opinions i use to make my handicap bet and enjoy the season with a windfall of £68000 coming to me in May.

There is not a chance that Liverpool's point tally will get into the 70's (imo). Hodgson has got to take over a squad of misfits led by a past it Gerrard who looks like he wants to leave more and more with every passing day. No matter how good a manager is it is simply not possible to turn that mess around first time of asking.

I agree with Liverpool and Bristol City as teams to improve next season.

Benitez never took the EPL full seriously - Hodgson was the best manager in the EPL last season.

Bristol City have more money to spend and a shrewd manager.

Teams that win these bets tend to be teams fancied to struggle who cause big shocks. West Ham and Newcastle have the capability to shock.

RH got Fulham to a Europa League final on less than 50% of the resources of Harry - the previous year RH got Fulham 7th - I would challenge Mourinho to do that!

I also fancy Shrewsbury to surprise a few people and improve on last season - Graham Turner knows Div 2 inside out and has a lot of contacts in the West Midlands which helps him pick up decent loans and freebies from the bigger clubs. He has a bit more money to spend than at Hereford and Shrewsbury will be more settled into their new ground. I have taken them at 4/1 for promotion.

excellent fred big hairy one!

agree that Swindon are one to avoid in League One though - see them as a sell on the points/handicap spreads

laid 10 teams in the prem on here worked out almost evens, ive laid arsenal and stoke for zero losses, blackpool wba blackburn man city newcastle west ham wigan and bolton for losses. think liverpool have the best chance.

Laid Birmingham to lose

Birmingham +36 pts  12.63  £39.50  £498.99 £459.49

Could not believe someone asking for 12.0 & 13.0, can bet them back now at 17.0

Awful season lies ahead for "Les Bleus"

Cool
