I think we are god awful value, were totally terrible last season, fan morale is really low despite the spate of new signings.
Boyd will flop IMO Thompson is average at best never heard of Bailey.
Lots of 1-0 either ways and top 8 finish if we are lucky.

ah the positive boro fan ^

meatloaf - get on us, we will have a great season, the manager has had a long time now to think, see what we need and unlike most other clubs, we have got the signings in early to connect well before the season

Gordon Strachan seems to think that hard work and fitness are a substitute for ability and flair.
Don't be so patronising either.
Where about do you sit mate?

Teams that make big changes usually take time to adjust, and I believe this is the start of a rebuilding programme for them. I think they'll be better this year but the price is too short to win it to be value.

Having said that, it's a tricky league to call.

I think that even if Gary's feelings are correct then we are still a touch short in such a wide open league, anything less than blind optimism and being seduced by the overrated Kris Boyd and people start to realise that very little has changed.
Wheater is still a liability, Arca is still in the squad, we are so slow, so very very slow.
I fear for the optimists

if boyd was not at the end of his contract he would have cost you 7or8 million.

The stat that he scored 4/5 of his goals against the bottom 6 in the SPL and 1/5 against the top 6 haunts me.
I fail to see how he can score 20 goals next year.
Really hope I am wrong

dont worry youre wrong the myth is that he doesnt score in the big games and that is all it is .he has scored in cup finals internationals and crucial league matches he didnt score much in europe or against celtic because smith hardly ever played him and went for 1 up front .which was normally kenny miller who he deemed was more suitable for that role.he is the type of player who will score anywhere and i mean anywhere.

2 goals against Bulgaria in the Kirin cup??? 2 goals against the Faroe Islands, 1 against Lithuania in qualifying and 1 against South Africa in a friendly.

he scored 7 goals from 16 caps half of the caps would have been as a sub so all in not a bad record .

Sorry Bradley, dont get on much anymore, its unlikely id catch ya pal

but take the advice of Nirnaeth...if you cant go into a season positive, dont go at all, if were sh!t then fair does, well admit to it, but have to be positive even if just for sanity...ps i sit in the North West Upper

I am optimistic for the coming season and we should do well providing the squad gel's quickly.
Boyd and Mcdonald have goals in them up front but cant do it on their own and will need service, which I am not sure we have had much of since Johnson left.
Nervous about our full back situation too.
I can see why weve been made faves but Im not sure I would agree, will be much tighter than last year when Newcastle ran away with it, but if we dont win it I cant really pick a team who is head and shoulders above the rest, none of the relegated teams look that impressive.

Conway is only a rumour as far as im aware GT

Generally stec i agree with you on all of that, i wouldnt have us as favs but i definitely think we can be up there, but there is no team you can say will win. I think sometimes people moaning about the scottish signings forget, we only have to win the championship...not the premiership

I'm really positive about next season, I believe we have goals in us now - just would like to see a keeper signed and then we have the team for going up.

Well I'd say that many of the teams in the CCC are of a comparable standard to those in the bottom half of the SPL.

Look at players who have done well in the CCC in recent seasons and how well they've done in the PL.  SEB for my beloved Wanderers is a case in point, tore the Championship to shreds but did chuff all last season.

Not sure Boro are the team to back for the title tho... but I think Boyd will do a fine job up there.

Quite a few scottish guys have gone down and done really well in the Championship, Adam, Burke, Rae, McCormack, Dorrans.  The guys Boro have signed were a higher standard than those mentioned so in theory should do quite well.

I'm a rangers fan and gutted we lost thommo, Boyd will either be your hero or you will be sick to the stomach with him.  He will not move his arse for 89 mins then pop up with a goal, very frustrating but every team needs a goalscorer, comes alive inside the box.  I predict 15-20 goals for him

Let's face it, at this moment in time Middlesbrough are better and bigger than Rangers. It's a step up for Boyd and Thomson.

I doubt it very much. Celtic are the biggest club in Scotland by quite some distance now. Cool

2 in a row, Dundee Utd won more than you lot last season FFS.

Anyway, not turning this thread into a Rangers Celtic slagging match, I'm out

Boyd's middle name is pen.

That's all you need to know about his scoring record Laugh

We are too short in my opinion.

The team is slightly better than last season and the league is poorer so I am expecting a better finishing position, but anything under 10/1 is too short. As said defence looks too weak as well as goalie situation is weak to win the league.

A big positive for me is that the owner is showing some ambition. I think the last 2 years has been all about reducing debts and ambition has been limited.

Although Strachan has his limitations he now has his own coaching staff in and is better than Southgate.

Nicky Bailey is class and will do well in the Championship.

He's been voted player of the year at the last three clubs he has played for.

yes i like the look of Bailey. Happy with all of our signings really. The only thing we dont have what all recent winners had is a full house. Too many fans (well so called fans) jumped ship as soon as things looked bad. If we are going to turn the Riverside into a fortress we need a good start to the season ad hopefully the crowds will return
