hard to feel sorry for people ploughing that kind of money into a market without reading the rules.

I was baffled too.. Then I checked my statement and it says -11.8k I'm not joking. I'm just on the phone to Betfair to see if they're gonna help me out of this in any way because I don't have a penny to give em. I feel really stupid now. numbers were good, didn't consider void bets at all.. I'm still speechless.. dumbest thing I've ever done in life... I think I took the biggest losses here.. it did seem to good to be true... whats done is done now.. incredible.. I actually withdraw my money off betfair when Tim advised we were gonna get screwed.. whether or not I receive that money to my bank. Off phone now.. manager is ringing me back.. I'm just gonna tell him I can only make token payments each month.. I cannot write a cheque for 12k. I can only pray they write this debt off... god I dunno.. worst case, I'll have to leg it. |

if you deposit say 4000 bet away till kick off be massively green on everyone then withdraw your 4000, you get it right, easy money, if you dont??? betfair send your account into minus but how do they recover the money? i have never done this but have heard of it? is the money recoverable??

I wonder if the first post was a ramp. Cheeky hasn't been seen much since.
I like the way some of them show their profits at the bottom of each post. Bet some of the figures look sick now !! |
By:
they are just a bunch of scheming**s who are happy to take free money when it works for them but don't want to pay when someone else wins
By:
can betfair get the money back???
By:
i dont see how betfair can do anthing here, it would almost make the concept of deposits, withdrawals and exposure limits meaningless since if betfair take this money back then they are going against the exposure limit set and will in effect be making their own withdrawal from the customers account. I dont thiink they have a leg to stand on. I've taken contract law as part of my law degree so would be interesting to see the terms we all signed up to when we opened our accounts.

By:
they were effectively trying to steal money from someone who did they think they were winning from? cant believe none of them smelt a fish with this if it was that easy to make money su
By:
rely smarter people than them would have already done it!
By:
All I can suggest is that people do a quick withdrawal of the money (leave the 'profit' from the trading), and hope Betfair don't come after you.
------------------- And that was the advice of the forum moderator on MSE!!!! Hope no one thinks he;s liable and start looking for his kneecaps with a crow bar :0 |
By:
yeah but who ever signed up to anything apart from clicking a link saying you agree, i think its shocking behaviour but wonder what would happen to these guys
By:
if they refuse to pay theres nothing betfair can do.
By:
Can see all their accounts staying at $0, but not having to re-pay the rest.
By:
i never looked at the FGS market i bet there were some good prices on the starting players will these still get settled
By:
is it trying to obtain a pecuniary advantage? could they take them to court for a criminal offence?
By:
I've just read that thread, and it's unbelievable. how can they have put all that money in, and NO ONE stopped to read the rules? incredible. I mean, if you see 140% overround on the wrong side of a market, how can you not think, I'd better just check the details here?
By:
Although the market is suspended I am now showing round about negative 190 for every player and it seems to be rising every minute
------------------ Lol there is some funny posts appearing on the greedy boogers forum - every time someone got voided their red would have got higher and higher - I have no sympathy (and Im normally a very sympathetic person!!!) |
By:
one things for sure the market wont be voided.
As you say the likely scenario is the account will be 0 any deposits they make wouldb e instantly taken against the debt but if they dont deposit doubt betfair can do anything... betfair should really put something in place to stop this happening (what i dont know) and these people who are all **s anyway should be made to pay but will get away with it... life is unfair. |
By:
very intersting thread the only thing i can see betfair doing if there is a loophole is waiting till form these markets only when the starting 22 and subs are known and quoting them all

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Because it kept going down....140, 130, 120, 104 and the greedy fvcks wanted to make as much money as they could. |
By:
These people are the first to start screaming if a book makes an obvious error and invokes the palpable error rule, but then try every tactic to avoid paying when the boot's on the other foot - and thier's is a genuine debt.
By:
How on earth do I owe Betfair 12k? I thought Bets were between other betfair users.. or is it that Betfair have PROFITED by 12k from me??
oh its just the users he wants to rip off |
By:
Very interesting reading.
I take no pleasure in seeing people lose heaps of money, but the comments flying around there about how they can welsh on their bets tempers my sympathy. I presume if the boot were on the other foot they'd be screaming blue murder about somone trying to weasel their way out of money that they'd legitimately won |
By:
like i said look at some of the other posts by the same users involved in this (click there name and then you can view other posts) you will see the same people boasting how much the yhave taken from bookies/casinos at no risk to themselves bonus **s/using loopholes or whatever you want to call them... as soon as they make a mistake while trying to win the big one! instantly they look for the loophole to get themselves out of the situation
By:
Rules are there to be read and understood. I would say having looked at earlier postings backers thought they were getting extreme value and layers were greedy and thoght they would only profit more by laying more!! It shows that little knowledge and greed can be one's undoing.
By:
some of them are talking about going to the press - can you imagine the press dedicating a dozen pages of redtop to explaing what the heck happened :0
Sharp minds - dont use MSE :P :0 |
By:
this has made my day
priceless, should read the betfair forum regarding this, great stuff they no where laughing at them |
By:
These are the very same people who drive down all the prices on fancied runners/teams/players by arbing and letting all their chums know that a bookmaker is 4.00 but you can lay 3.90 on BF so let us all get 50k on to try and make a few quid.
**mers, and hope that have to pay every penny. And i am also usually a very amiable chap too. |
By:
This is really betfairs fault for having a loophole in their market. Cant blame people for trying to take advantage. Maybe they will learn from the 12k theyve dropped on this that they need to set these markets up correctly with a Rule 4 or something.
By:
now they are trying to blame betfair LOL
By:
has anyone on the betfair forum registered on that site to give em both barrels?
By:
Cant blame people for trying to take advantage.
LOL Seriously :D :D :D course you can they have Royally foooooked up being greedy. And someone needs to pay. Some BF account holders bet on winners and deserve to get paid. |
By:
Quality Thread! How dumb can some people be!
By:
the latest post from reason on MSE he lost about 12K
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've had a few people PM me but I also suggest you all email Betfair. Make the subject and body addressable to "MANAGER" And explain whats happened. I have emailed them and mentioned there are other forumite's who have made the same costly mistake. I've again asked the manager to ring me, as Mark was suppose to call me. As one guy who PM'd me, we need to take a united stand on this.. and hopefully something good will come out of this and we can move on and learn from this ghastly experience. I wonder when the adrenaline is gonna wear off! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
By:
Some BF account holders bet on winners and deserve to get paid.
Are you now suggesting that people who backed walcott wont get paid? Course they fecking will. Betfair will have to just swallow the loss themselves. |
By:
i dont see any reason why this is betfairs fault. if youre all honest you will see that you were just greedy. trying to steal, yes you were being thieves, money from other people. not betfair. other punters. so for this i have no sympathy and i will do whatever i can, get a group of betfair powerrangers or whatever to ensure the streets of betfair are safe and you pay out for your greed. you lost. so there.
if betfair give you money back it will make a mockery of the whole site. and for this is will not stand back. well said that man! :) |
By:
I mean, really - what is their case? they laid a load of stupid bets because they thought they could make a fast buck. they had the time to read pages of b0llocks on a forum - but not a few lines of rules governing a market they were steaming into.
By:
Wolves fan tells 'em what he thinks lol.
By:
i wont rest until these brainless twunts have been thrown onto the street where they belong! ;-)

Why did bf not close this loophole? These debts are not enforceable, bf honour the backs, bf lose, seems a little sloppy.
