captain scarlet - so what system to you use to place your bets on betfair at the moment?

No system. I really only bet on football on here at present but I'm not making anything from it for one reason and another. The horse racing thing is an extension of a system I built several years ago which trialled extremely well but like a tool I dropped it due to being too wrapped up in having a decent paying job that afforded me some nice things so I didn't really pursue the racing system all that much. Circumstances (job wise) have changed dramatically so I'm trying to get my head down and recreate what I did before.

Oh yes, BL. Form certainly comes into it. Some horses are simply better than their peers. If they're consistent with it - most horses aren't - then you might have a betting win machine.  If a horse outclasses the competition, is consistent, is in good form, and won't have any problems with the distance or the way the race is likely to be run, then you have a pick. If you can get a good price on that horse to place in the top three then you may well have something.   You don't get many of those in an evening though - and when it comes to truly dependable shots, you only get those a few times a week.  Any horse can let you down, but if you're selective and don't get sucked in by stupid prices, then you can turn a profit.

Other horses may be good bets because they are ideally suited to the type of race (that can knock out two thirds of the field right there), or because they're relatively untried and untested in a field full of proven losers.  If a horse didn't win last time, you've always got to ask yourself what's so different that'll make it win this time. Most of the time you can't answer that question, in which case you simply move on. Occasionally you can, in which case you have a pick.

I can't really say more, since US Racing has pretty small pools as it is. But there are definitely good picks available if you're incredibly selective, and know how to read class, speed and form.

I don't find it difficult to congratulate someone else despite my losses, no.  If I did I wouldn't read the thread.

I don't know if he has the perfect life.  He seems like a nice bloke and has put time into making himself a success on here, so I'd say he deserves what he's achieved.  It really depends on your definition of a perfect life.

Yup. Guilty. In fairness, I haven't been on the forums much for the last fortnight, and the rest of you seem to have done a great job of helping Bob bury the thread in truckloads of drivel. (And I ain't taking any criticism on arguments from you 666, after you displayed your rather meagre and repetitive skills in that department on last week's 'Prince William is a Bellend' Chit-chat thread...)

Point taken though. I shall retire to my steel-encased antechamber, where I can't pick up Betfair or email, and where my corps of green birds are waiting to deliver 500 lashes every day for the next week or two. Tatty bye.

Tennis=+£190.

Backed Raonic 3-0, but traded out at start of 3rd set when it looked  like the match might not finish tonight.
Congrats to the lucky punter who took the massively overpriced 1.5 I laid due to lack of liquidity in the market.

These bets are posted purely for people looking for a 'how to' sort of post.  I was originally backing Malmo Women as I had them for a 3-1 sort of win.  I bottled it just before the goal and ended up with -20 on them so piled in to make it green for the Malmomians.

Maybe someone will find this post useful.  Better than me posting a random figure for the day.

Shame for the Murray set betting too.  For some reason I laid off early, usually I would lay a lot lower.

Selection    Odds    Stake(£)    Bid type    Placed    Profit/loss(£)
A Murray 3 - 0    1.42    250.00    Back    26-Jun-12 17:56    105.00
A Murray 3 - 0    1.04    60.00    Lay    26-Jun-12 18:38    -2.40
A Murray 3 - 0    1.21    45.00    Lay    26-Jun-12 18:16    -9.45
A Murray 3 - 0    1.34    50.00    Lay    26-Jun-12 18:11    -17.00
A Murray 3 - 0    1.21    100.00    Lay    26-Jun-12 18:15    -21.01

1.34 and 1.21 were poor choice lays.

I often find/think cricket is under the control of market manipulators. The odds are obviously forced by the match itself but I find that the exact price is set by the whim of tens of thousands of pounds which can get withdrawn/put into the market at will.
