this thread is a sign that the forum has become slightly too involved in people's lives. FFS, the forum does not need a silence. By all means inform people that at 11 the nation is having a silence but a **ing thread??? come off it Trickster.

agree with charles - you do not need to be silent on an internet forum...
not knowing and appreciating the event on the other hand is much more tragic - see the coments of robin lace to me and others about this day on the horse racing forum thread |

Genuine question, did the governments on both sides encourage the slaughter of the armies on the opposite side up until 11 am, like to keep shooting at 10:59
|

people actually even died after 11am and for a few days afterwards whilst the withdrawals and so on were being sorted out - just because those in chare signed the paperwork - it took a little while for it to filter down

Last weeks release of Army records on the internet solved a great family mystery.
We knew that my great grandfather had been killed as a serving soldier but he died in 1919, we assumed he'd survived injuries received in battle and died a few months later. When we got his army records it turns out he'd survived The Somme, Mons, Yrpes and 3 years active service. He went to germany as part of the occupying army after the war and was murdered by another British soldier, stabbed to death! The soldier got 12 years, reduced to 5 due to his service record. Waiting to get the trial transcripts from Army records. Very sad. |

How many of the self-righteous support our current Wars of aggression?
The biggest shame to the men who gave their lives in the World Wars are the phoney wars in the Middle-East today; weapons of mass destruction indeed. |
