Does anyone know how to check a system against betfairs past results (the downloadable csv ones?). Am I being stupid or do I have to literally manually trawl back through them? I am interested, amongst other things, in how many times card 6 or further wins 3 consec games for example? Any helpwould be great, thanks.
You will have to write a custom application in order to analyse the data contained in the CSV files. I have written my own backtesting tool (using Microsoft Access and VBA).

After further research (I have no life), I have discovered the bot formerly known as amoeba. I can program my strategy for bcct into it accuratley and have backtested against the orig bcct csv file that is also available at download. Results are very positive but I really need to upload more files (a month or more) to test against but 'ol technically retarded slaxon can upload them but cant get said files to then be 'compatible' to run amoebas simulate feature aginst them. In plain english (sorry, drinking...xmas after all) I cant upload betfair csv results files. Any help from the more technically adept forumites would be fantastic.

The link for the now free amoeba bot and csv files including my failed uploads is https://sth-se.diino.com/saucebook/amoeba%20freebie. Sorry to anyone if this is viewed as spamming.

If you leave a query on thebotfarm.com, he will almost certainly reply. I believe he has some very big test files, that he may share if you ask nicely.

Thanks, Grun. Hope you've had a good xmas so far, mate. Just emailed Jigz at the botfarm so hopefully I'll be able to give you an update soon all be it positive or negative on yet another of my holy grails. Have you used amoeba before Grun? Is it accurate? I've only used it for a few days now but it seems to do pretty much everything it's meant to as it ought to if that makes sense? Could save me loads of electricity if the whole csv thing works out, lol.

Amoeba - yes it's accurate. Allows easy backtesting and selection (or more likely, rejection) of potential strategies. It treats the bacc. tie correctly in both win/loss tracking and staking progressions, which is something x-feeder fails on. Might allow you to find the holy grail - IF it exists. lol

wow - absence really does make the heart grow fonder. I've put a lot more saved game files into that freebie directory for folks to download. One undocumented feature of Amoeba which you will find useful when using the simulator is that you can put all of the files of a particular type into one directory and then point the simulator at the directory rather than an individual file. It will then work its way through all of the files as though they were one huge single session (which logically of course they are). I would encourage others to upload their more recent files as well, as upload is enabled. Don't upload .opt strategy files without editing them in Notepad first to remove your username and password!

For anyone wanting to backtest any systems, definitley get yourself a copy of amoeba. It's free, very simple to use (espescially if you are used to xfeeder) and absolutely priceless when it comes to backtesting (hint to xfeeder creator, that would be an awesome feature to add to next time you update it?). Go to the botfarm (see above post) and click on the subject, amoeba now abandonware. A big thank you to Jigz if he is reading this and I will be in touch soon. You probably know who I am, lol, testing going very, very, very well. Talk soon, my email down at the moment.

Yes Slax, Jigz is a star in terms of his development and support of the Amoeba bot. I never found the need to use it personally, as I have my own testing capabilities, but from all I have heard it is truly an excellent product. Makes it all the stranger that he couldn't seem to find enough subscribers to make it a viable commercial venture. What a shame really that the good guys don't always seem to get their just rewards.

I've been using Amoeba for some months now. It seems to still be stable enough for my needs and it is very easy to use. It would be brilliant if someone did take it in hand to keep it up to speed. I for one will be seriously upset if it becomes unusable. Thinking about it I may well have been the last paying customer who caused it to be launched as freeware!

Thanks for the kind words. I have tried to get a few folks interested in the maintenance and further development of the Amoeba code, but no takers so far. I would like to see it adapted for financial bets, though Grunnie tells me there is insufficient liquidity in that market at the moment.
On an unrelated theme, FAFH please indulge me and let me know if you are a re-badging of our old friend YLB, as some of your diction and outlooks seem remarkably aligned with his. Not meant as a slight as I always had a grudging respect for his consistency of vision, even when disagreeing with his manner of expression and treatment of other views!

Sorry - what I really meant to mention was that it was a surprise to me too that the final list of subscribers totalled no more than about 34 even though selling at pocket money prices. Probably why this_is_fun lost interest ( or maybe he thought there were thousands more that I wasn't passing him his cut for! ) I thought there was a much bigger market, and I was left with a lot of admiration for the guys from xpokerbot, uxt and x-feeder for keeping their products going in such a professional manner on such slender pickings.

I've uploaded some big test files to directory for Baccarat & Omaha side bets and some other main bet files. I could do with some big files above 2MB for Baccarat mainbets and HiLo side bets.

for me it was interesting to find that my assumptions were turned upside down. I was naturally drawn to trend following systems and found that mean-reverting systems always did better. In crude terms this means that "wait for x losses then start betting" isn't too far off the mark. Also on x-games I found that the very long odds bets turned out to be good value, but had insufficient liquidity to exploit.
More interesting for me was doing analysis on a "frictionless" RNG game, the no-zero roulette offered by BetVoyager, where I was amazed to find that even without a commission and spread, with true value odds on offer, it was still almost impossible to make a profit in the long term. It seems as though variance rather than transaction costs is the real enemy.

Thanks Grunny. Worth mentioning that simulation doesn't work against downloaded Betfair text files (which don't have round by round odds), but only on game files saved by the bot itself. To create such files just leave running with default settings and live trading unchecked on the game of your choice for as long as you like (making sure to check the save to file box on general tab). Alternatively download csv's from the freebie site. Easiest way is to put all same-game files into a named directory and point the simulation at the directory rather than a single file. If you are still seeing nothing from your simulation it is likely that you are stipulating conditions which can never be met, such as favourite over 515 or similar.
