This new format for 1st round is a joke. Let the mugs battle for a couple of legs and that's it. Standard has been awful so far.

The point of difference between the BDO and the PDC used to be that the latter only consisted of the elite players in the game.
In recent years, the PDC has done a great job in developing itself as an organisation. Challenge tours, development tours, youth programmes, continental development tours etc. But the World Championships is not the place to include the breadth of the organisation so that it feels involved. It should only really be the best of the best. Top 32 only (or 64 at a stretch). This format of 96 players makes it looks like just another weekly tournament or, even worse, a bit like the BDO. |
