Final day before Christmas and let's be honest it's not the most competitive. 1/16,1/12 and 1/6 shots in the last 3 games scream leave well alone to me but I do fancy 1 bet pretty strongly.

Vincent Van Der Voort v John Henderson
Jermaine Wattimena v Robert Marijanovic
Mervyn King v Max Hopp
Adrian Lewis v David Pallett
Stephen Bunting v Qualifier

Only bet I fancy tomorrow is over 6 maxes in the opening match. Henderson especially is very tidy on the maxes and VDV can string them together in bursts too. Like the fact this should feature plenty of legs too so hoping it can get over the line.

2pt win over 6.5 maxes @ 4/6 (Hills)

King looks the only fav who might drop a set to me as Hopp is a highly rated young german but I'd still think he should have more than enough to get into R2. Bar that onwards and upwards to longer more competitive matches.

I see 6/5 and a general 11/10 for over 7.5 maxes in same match. I am with you on this HH plenty of reason to think they can manage at least 180's between them in what should be a 4 or 5 setter.

Agree with the 180s shouts on the opener, you'd think it'll be at least 4 sets. Same with the King match plus he seems to hit more 180s than you think. Don't really know what Lewis will turn up these days and you'd fancy a few Bunting 180s, but with it being his debut appearance here and not knowing much about his opponent, it's probably best left alone.
Roll on Round 2!

Be good to see what sort of form these two are in ahead of their potential QF thriller

Wattimena looks worth a bet to me in the qualifier.  Generally evens about him to win.  Admittedly know nothing about him, but he has recorded wins over BDO boys Dekker, Boulton, De Vos, and Thompson this year.  Fairly decent scalps for a qualifier.

Elsewhere, VDV highest checkout vs Henderson looks fair at 8/13.  From what I remember of Hendo, he scores heavy but can't hit a barn door when it comes to the doubles.  Think both Lewis and King win easily - odds are very skinny though.  Instead will take both to get highest checkout against their opponents (both at 1/2) based purely on the fact that they are likely to win a significant number more legs.

Has anyone seen King's tweet about getting an steroid injection yesterday and only being able to walk now. Could be worth siding with Hopp on the handicap.

Which tweet is that? Can't see it on his twitter account?

I've seen the tweet as well. Something about feeling better after the steroid injection yesterday.

Wonder what it means...

I've done an acca of:

Van der Voort (checkout matchbet)
Wattimena
Hopp (+1.5)
Lewis 3-0

pays just over 16/1

I'm sure King will be fine...He's struggled like feck with his sciatica for years and it looks like it's focused his mind.
Does seem an odd time (or desperation) to have a jab the day before his 1st round match.
Hope Merv wins as i want to hear more about the injection he's had, as i may need one myself. Plain

P.S. This is the danger of betting on individual sports prior to show time without a full insight to a players well being/state of mind. Beaton sliced a throwing finger years ago, a day or so before the matchplay and still beat Warriner @ 6/4 Wink
Lost in the following round saying the cut had worsened and affected his throw.

Don't mention Ovens retirement in these parts.

Have taken a punt on Henderson instead of VDV checkout now.  Also Hendo 180s.  Cant be having the prices that he's at - VDV is hardly reliable.

King has a broken back and will probably be wheeled in to the Ally Pally after taking advice from Simon Whitlock.
You know what to do.

Henderson most 180s, Henderson -1 180.
Henderson most 180s, win match, and high checkout.

Wattimena win, wattimena -1.5 legs.
Bunting 3-0.

Under 6.5 180s in the King game.
King high checkout.

Lewis high checkout.
Lewis to win match, most 180s, and high checkout.

Quite a stacked card for me tonight Plain
