Betfair Darts expert Wayne Mardle casts his experienced eye across this week's Premier League fixtures and likes the look of Simon Whitlock to record his first win...

Adrian Lewis v Michael van Gerwen
20:30

I really like the look and price of Michael van Gerwen to out-180 Adrian Lewis in the first of my selections this week. While it's folly to back against Jackpot in any match (he's more than capable of annihilating opponents when in the mood), the 180s market is certainly something worth looking at for the following reason:

Michael isn't switching quite so much after hitting a first treble twenty, and so he is well worth backing at 2.3 or better to out-maximum Lewis on Thursday. I think the game will be close, so I'm expecting at least five from Michael and that should be enough to get us a profit.

Recommended Bet

Back Michael van Gerwen to hit the most 180s at around 2.3

Wes Newton v Simon Whitlock
21:50

I haven't gone mad, that happened years ago, but I think Simon is the bet of the Premier League so far.

The big Aussie is pointless and not playing particularly well, and he has to win you think to have any chance of avoiding elimination. Wes Newton is playing worse than Whitlock but is somehow getting away it - for the last three weeks his opponent has a had a nightmare match.

If The Beard to be Feared plays to anywhere near his "B" game I think he wins this. The only fly in the ointment is that the pressure of winning and accumulating points is all too much and he under performs.

This match is all about Simon, if he plays well he wins.

Recommended Bet

Back Simon Whitlock to beat Wes Newton at 2.44

Wayne Mardle Premier League 2014 P/L
Staked: 8 pts
Returned: 6.13 pts
P/L: - 1.87 pts

Wayne's been known to change his mind come thurs night.

With the UK Open starting the day after the PL, who knows what kind of effort the players will put in, in an already glorified darts exhibition? Therefore, only small stakes for added interest...

1) Player To Score Most 180s and Hit The Highest Checkout
Michael van Gerwen     40/1
Adrian Lewis 50/1
Dave Chisnall 66/1
Raymond van Barneveld 66/1
Gary Anderson     80/1

Phil Taylor 100/1
Robert Thornton 100/1
Simon Whitlock     125/1
Wes Newton 150/1
Peter Wright 250/1
50p on each bway

2) Any Drawn match - NO @ 6/4 bway

Assuming odds of 4/1 the draw in every match, the PL could be played in tonight's format 52 weeks of the year and you would only be due a night of 5 draws from 5 matches once in 60 years.

During the evening's matches i did wonder what the stats were for players who played twice in 1 night in the PL format.

As for Aidie, his reaction may have been different if mvg didn't balls up the last leg. It looked like a big relief for him not losing, as he sweatily bear hugged gerwen following the draw and more so post match interview lol
