I barely play anymore. Was pretty good in my day, but same as you I can't be bothered with the giant fields these days.
I was the kid on the scene in a different era where I'd sit and listen to the old boys tell stories that would have me in awe. I should probably write a book of anecdotes of things I saw and heard in the mid 90s but only about 20 people would ever read it. Just one example while Phil's on: A guy I knew took a dog to a course in Wales somewhere and they'd painted the dog. Bets were down and the dogs were being paraded when it suddenly started raining. The guy had to leg it from the track because in full view his dog started changing colour in front of everyone. (Same guy had to make a hasty exit from Devon+Exeter (I think it's called) racecourse after pretending to be the Queen's jockey to get a helicopter ride in the late 80s-early 90s. That story's for another day though. |
