flip flop, dumoulin now favourite again. But I dont like to back him after that crash.
Froome never in top shape after tour de france and not renowned to risk a lot.
Martin, too difficult for him
Cancellara, not prime anymore
So I back kiriyenka and dennis.
Hopefully this time nobody whos on the way to Gold ends in hospital

weather doesn't play into Froome's hands
Report nugget August 10, 2016 2:31 PM BST
Conditions not suitable for Froome?  How will Dumoulin's form be after breaking wrist at the TdF?

If Dumoulin is in the same form as he was at the Tour he should win easily. How much will his wrist affect him though?

Big odds the rest of the field away from Dumoulin and Froome.

That was after the 1st time check, he got out to huge odds after the 2nd time check.

Thought the 2 faves were a risk here

combined age of the Mens and Womens Individual Time Trial winners = 77 years

Wow. How do you explain that?
Report houseofpain August 10, 2016 4:54 PM BST
seems difficult to beleive that winning time.

Fabian "Spartacus" Cancellara: Olympic time trial champion 2016 - a fitting end to a legend's career. Love
Report CJ70 August 10, 2016 5:02 PM BST
Odd result if you think the course was too tough for Martin and Kiriyenka while Cancellara who struggles to keep with Kittel going over a bridge these days wins by a minute.

Not sure I can quite believe this one.
Report houseofpain August 10, 2016 5:10 PM BST
weird for sure.

When it comes to time trialing no-one does it better than Cancellara. He even quit the Tour de France with his team-mate in second place so that he could concentrate on this race.
Report CJ70 August 10, 2016 5:28 PM BST
This is his first TT win since 2011(I've excluded Nat. Champs)! A good showing at the 2013 worlds not withstanding, he's been a pretty mediocre TTer for a long while.

He was very good in the Tour de Suisse prologue a couple of months ago.  Won that in the rain against other riders who had much drier conditions.  In retrospect this probably didn't take much winning because of Dumoulin's wrist and Martin's knee

Cancellara injured himself in the road race before the last Olympic TT and how many worlds has he competed in since 2011? Calling him a "pretty mediocre" time triallist is a throwaway comment to fit your present narrative which appears to be he could only have won today's race by cheating.

In fairness he's still probably the best prologue rider around, anything longer though and he just hasn't been able to do it these last few years.

Sorry, but his results suggest he's a pretty mediocre TT rider. Perhaps I've missed something.. Apart from the ride I mentioned in a previous post what's he done recently?

2016
    1st National Time Trial Championships
    1st Strade Bianche
    1st Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana
1st Stage 3 (ITT) Volta ao Algarve
    1st Stage 7 (ITT) Tirreno–Adriatico
1st Stage 1 (ITT) Tour de Suisse
    2nd Tour of Flanders

(via wikipedia)

What TT results make him mediocre? And if he's mediocre what does that make everyone else?

That looks great doesn't it.. Then you realise all those ITT results are from prologues or variants.

Cancellara 2 x olympic champion
4 x world champion
Froome looks quite mediocre the whole year except the 3 weeks in july and dauphine
0 x olympic champion
0 x world champion
0 x one day race
reminds me of a certain mr armstrong

Cancellara didn't race in the 2012, 2014 or 2015 world time trials so where did he earn his mediocre tag?

You asked what he had done recently. It's there in black and white.

I stated that he hadn't done anything in a TT bar that 2013 worlds for a long time. You don't seem to be able to counter that?

Here are his TT results. Which of his results do you think I've missed?

There's one that stands out apart from the 2013 worlds. There's a thread on these forums from that race with me in equal disbelief.

You couldn't find anything then? So as I said earlier he hasn't produced anything in a TT for years.

Report nugget August 17, 2016 12:43 AM BST
No doubt Cancellara's result was way out of the ordinary.  Haven't seen him in such dominant form since the 2010 tour of Flanders.  Cancellara's best ride this year imo again was in the one-day classic

Tour of Flanders.   He only trailed Sagan by a handful of seconds going over the last climb.  It was essentially a head to head time trial for 15km to the finish but it was Sagan who actually increased

his lead over the great time trialler Cancellara to win the race.  Nothing Canc did for the rest of the season (or the previous 2-3 seasons) indicated he had such a performance in him imo.
Report nugget August 17, 2016 12:52 AM BST
Then you have the Woman's time trial champion who came out of retirement to win gold in London 4 years ago.

Then at 43 years of age she comes out of retirement again to compete at Rio and again wins gold in the time trial.
