Another long stage with a hard climb right at the end and then another very steep wall that hardly even shows on the profile! Looks like another breakaway. You'd think we'd be looking for a powerful rider who can escape on the flat but also a good enough climber to drop his rivals on the late lumps. Astana might fancy getting a couple of Nibali's super domestiques in the break here to see if they can salvage something from a disastrous GT. Otherwise Ulissi is probably a decent shout here.

A chasing group of Oss, Kung, Navardauskas, Ligthart, Kluge, Trentin and Rovny would be capable of chasing down Brambilla and Moser and maybe one or two other riders on good sensations on the climb, in fact Ligthart being one.

Going to have a look at them closer and see who looks to want to fight.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:01 PM BST
Brambilla certainly ticks all the boxes in that he will be capable of getting over the climb with an attack, then descend fast and be strong to the line -- looks like a genuine hardman, however I'm thinking it might come back together in the final 6-9kms in a group which is about halved to 10 riders.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 2:09 PM BST
Don't forget as mc1 alludes to in his post, with 2.5km to go the road kicks up at about 13% for 500m (including 250m @ 16%!) then a short descent and flat final km.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:10 PM BST
Moser is going to be good up this climb so he is likely to be trading much shorter than the 7s and 5s being matched, with the view of laying some back after he goes over the top in first position.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:20 PM BST
Yes nugg, that definitely brings back the likes of Moser, meaning the others will have to attack him prior, which is why 4/1 or better is good value on Moser, I believe. Should be trading much shorter, later.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:24 PM BST
So, essentially Moser and Brambilla have two bites of the cherry here.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:31 PM BST
Moser did look short initially, but I think the market might panic when he attacks on the Pramartino climb, on closer inspection, and if the market doesn't than he has that second bite where the market will eventually want him covered, so one or another -- all things being equal --he should be going Evens at some point from 4/1, presently.

The danger is Brambilla getting a gap on the climb, consolidating on the descent, and going "hardman" solo, where he will fatigue on the climb 2kms from the finish.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:34 PM BST
Kung down...
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:37 PM BST
Mohoric off the front of the break, 21yo with good results as a Junior including WC in 2012 and 2013, but he isn't capable of climbing from what I can see.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:41 PM BST
Moser not a bad descender from what I remember, so he should be capable of preventing Brambilla from extending the gap on the descent.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 2:44 PM BST
Hopefully McCarthy has a go and isn't working for Rovny here.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:47 PM BST
Le Gac and Brutt off the front -- no concerns after opening a gap quickly.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:51 PM BST
Rovny came in well on stage 10 nugg, McCarthy couldn't cope on Willunga Hill at TDU earlier in the season, would want him over McCarthy.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:53 PM BST
Brutt killing himself!
Report nugget May 26, 2016 2:55 PM BST
Funny how Tinkoff had a man in the break yesterday and 3 in the break today but had no one there on stage 16 to chase when Majka was caught in the Chaves group behind the leaders.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:56 PM BST
Was that Arndt or Timmer giving it a go?
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:57 PM BST
...Is kapoot for the stage.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 2:58 PM BST
TKS had given up on Majka by then, protecting their men for stage wins.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 2:59 PM BST
lol, 2 local bookies didn't have Moser listed today after being listed every other stage
lucky there is always the bf exchange
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:01 PM BST
Majka a massive disappointment here, big questions being asked about his GC credentials going forward. As I think you alluded to earlier?
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:02 PM BST
That's what you call ancient cobbles… Laugh
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:03 PM BST
No, just bad from his team or they dont really care about his gc race. Majka did come 3rd in the last grand tour.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:03 PM BST
Navardauskas doing solid work for Moser that has confirmed his good sensations.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:05 PM BST
They don't care, they've laid down the law for Majka for stages 19/20 to be competitive or get a stage win and that's all. And that was a while ago.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:06 PM BST
Anyway, double feature coming up, stage win and GC fun. Love
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:07 PM BST
McCarthy getting the nod today by TKS it looks like, I don't like him, though.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:08 PM BST
Moser 4/1 into 51/20 -- nice move, but I'm waiting for Evens to pay for Ligthart and Brambilla as a saver.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:09 PM BST
Very even climbing so far...
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:11 PM BST
Brambilla looks as strong as when he won, needs to be covered, I believe.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:12 PM BST
Moser and Brambilla are the only tw left on the climb. Brambilla driving, Moser struggling a bit.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:12 PM BST
All green thanks to Moser.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:14 PM BST
Even if I went a bit early, which was a tad silly, he'll stick with Brambilla or get back on on the descent. 2/1 presently, he will go Evens, I believe.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:14 PM BST

Not much liquidity though. Sad
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:16 PM BST
Back to the leaders please...
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:17 PM BST
Thank you! Moser trying things -- can't believe this 2/1 is still available. Confused
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:18 PM BST
Traders going for Brambilla, I guess, no surprise, he looks like a bar-room brawler without the theatrics -- solid rider!
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:19 PM BST
I guess that was Timmer earlier, since Arndt is trying to bridge, the other TGA rider was dead, earlier!
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:20 PM BST
This is good from Moser, very comfortable with him going odds-on now.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:22 PM BST
Arndt on the descent might bridge, but as nugg pointed-out c/- MC, there is that last climb 2kms from line, which will end him, probably.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:23 PM BST
Arndt is on super form they won't want to let him back
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:23 PM BST
Moser doing the lion-share on the climb! Good!
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:24 PM BST
How does he descend, nugg?
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:25 PM BST
still 13km after the descent
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:25 PM BST
Rovny bridges to Arndt -- always the better option to McCarthy, I haven't covered him beyond the Moser green, though.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:27 PM BST
McCarthy did the job at 300's
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:28 PM BST
At 300s I'm sure he did, but that was at SP.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:28 PM BST
Here we go, thank you director.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:30 PM BST
Brambilla the better descender, Moser keeping the gap, though.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:31 PM BST
Back together, and Moser comes through to do the work, which might suit Brambilla better.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:32 PM BST
25secs to Rovny/Arndt.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:32 PM BST
They're going to attack Kruijswijk on the descent
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:33 PM BST
The answer to my question re: Arndt's descending skills nugg -- mediocre or nothing special! Mischief
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:34 PM BST
Brambilla and Moser can time trial they should hold them off
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:34 PM BST
Yes, but Kruisjwijk is going to crack on stage 20. Cool
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:35 PM BST
Moser looking fatigued in comparison to Brambilla, but they are both suffering, understandably.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:35 PM BST
Trentin is dangerous
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:37 PM BST
Has he even joined Arndt/Rovny?
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:38 PM BST
with Modolo
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:38 PM BST
Yes is the answer + Modolo!
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:39 PM BST
Their gap is steady!
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:40 PM BST
a day off for the gc contenders
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:40 PM BST
Trentin in an armchair, but Brambilla looks as fresh as he was when he won earlier, adding more Brambilla!
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:42 PM BST
Brambilla looks very hard and fast if it's between them both after the final ramp than it's Brambilla, I believe.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:42 PM BST
GC feature a non-event! Sad
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:43 PM BST
Brambilla needs to drop him before the finish I reckon

dangerous rider who has some big wins

EQS DS was on the line with Brambilla telling him to sit as Trentin was storming home nugg, Brambilla softened for team command for Trentin win mate -- cut the crap!
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:53 PM BST
perfect tactics because Moser had Brambilla covered in the sprint
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:53 PM BST
EQS had Moser covered twice, however he went 4/1 into Evens as predicted, exchange analysis was sound.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:54 PM BST
Rubbish! Brambilla had the sit, had Moser covered with the sit, looked fresh and electric, just exhibited team focus to slow Moser with the sit.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 3:55 PM BST
…For Trentin to drop from the clouds.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 3:56 PM BST
Yes, I dont think Brambilla was beating Moser today.  Was on Moser and Brambilla at sp probably like others  luckily was able to get on Trentin late though.

well if he had the sit why didn't he sprint past him for second

Report nugget May 26, 2016 4:03 PM BST
Trentin was fresh too as was sitting on from a long way out
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:05 PM BST
…because Trentin was storming home, because Trentin sacrificed himself throughout the classics and deserved the victory, because that is how EQS race, because Brambilla would have had Moser in the final 50 metres if Trentin didn't arrive. EQS were brilliant, just required us to hit Trentin when he joined the Arndt, Modolo, and Rovny group, but no pics and weren't on the road like EQS vehicle command.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:08 PM BST
I'm not complaining mate, I know Brambilla was the strongest of him and Moser, Trentin came through after attacking from another group, with better pics this was an obvious lock to cover him like Brambilla was covered. It was a classics-style finish and he is a specialist, fair by Brambilla to just sit as ordered, after all he already had a stage win.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 4:13 PM BST
cool, but Brambilla had every chance in the sprint
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:13 PM BST
Actually, looking at the replay, admittedly Moser was still strong, but the addition of a third party always changes things.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:15 PM BST
In the sprint for second Brambilla had every chance, I agree, and he still didn't get past Moser, so I'm willing to regress on that a bit.
Report nugget May 26, 2016 4:20 PM BST
The finishes of the last two stages have been thoroughly entertaining.

Kruijswijk is so confident apparently he says he has no weakness
Report nugget May 26, 2016 4:22 PM BST
I think if Moser had of seen him coming he could of still won.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:24 PM BST
I don't like to blow my own trumpet and I hardly ever do since most forum readers actually read the threads closely, but this is funny, so I will:

SwingingPick 26 May 16 13:58
A chasing group of Oss, Kung, Navardauskas, Ligthart, Kluge, Trentin and Rovny would be capable of chasing down Brambilla and Moser and maybe one or two other riders on good sensations on the climb, in fact Ligthart being one.

Trentin chases down Brambilla and Moser. Plain

Good stuff by nugget to remind about the last little climb and confirming Trentin joining the chasers. Failure by director of pics and not having access to race radio.

Cheers,
SP
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:26 PM BST
Moser should've had TKS DS in the ear screaming that Trentin was closing -- didn't even look back once.
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:27 PM BST
If Kruijswijk gets given a hard ride tomorrow, I firmly believe he will crack on stage 20.

That's all I am going to say.
Report marychain1 May 26, 2016 4:32 PM BST
Yesterday's stage wasn't up to much but Tuesday's and today's were brilliant! I was watching on catchup so no in lay bets but what a superb finish!
Report SwingingPick May 26, 2016 4:37 PM BST
Actually I will also say this as my final post:

Rider born location      elevation in m
Chaves                        2,640
Kruiswijk                      16

Climbing on stage 20: 2,700+

Yes, agreed, good exciting racing to conclude the business-end of the Giro this edition, and more to come if altitude becomes a factor as I believe it will. Cool
Report nugget May 26, 2016 4:54 PM BST
The last 1.5km of yesterdays stage was epic.
