Just going on from what Clay raised on the other stage thread -- since this is the appropriate thread with respect to the subject of Sagan.
If you were Oleg Clay, you would realise that paying Sagan 12 million Euros over the course of his present contract is a very wise investment, even if Sagan is finishing second time-and-again. He is a brand name, full stop. Sponsors love his affable nature, woman are attracted to the sport because of his looks and physical shape, and he makes cycling news whether he is winning or finishing 2nd, which sells newspapers and attracts "hits" to websites. He sells products and is highly bankable, and having him on your team is like having the near equivalent of Tiger Woods in golf, LeBron in Basketball, or Roger Federer in Tennis. You would not fire an asset because whilst wins in cycling are important, money is more important and he drives and attracts money.
Although I understand what you're saying, that in FantasyCycling, where such commercial aspects as brand names are not important or workable in the manager-type model, he is proving to be a major liability since his expense is not delivering wins.
I don't know how he lost that, either. I mean, I don't know how he lost that, even though it is so obvious how he lost it. It's a major concern, and you're completely right, he is becoming indefensible, that is to say no one can defend him and hold legitimacy in their argument.
Where does he go now, what does he do next? I think this might turn into a major psychological disability of sorts, where he just begins to believe he may never win again!

Sagan hates being at TCS he was signed by Riis and there's talk he has a Riis contract. i.e if Riis turns up with a team Sagan can leave for a price well below his market value.
Not sure Oleg is going to be around for that long, so that may make things completely redundant.
