150/0.
Would not like to be wearing a helmet in this heat. Sweat must be running out of it. |
By:
Deserved century for Tom Lathom. Conway needs 8 for his. 206/0.
By:
Perhaps need to try Bethell or Root for an over or two. Got to make something happen.
By:
Century for Devon Conway. 223/0.
By:
when we do get a chance, we drop a dolly
By:
Down the leg side but it was a bad drop from Smith.
By:
Could be 350/0 at stumps at this rate.
By:
150 for Tom Lathom. Lathom on 147. 307/0. Pretty much even steven for the pair.
' As to be decent odds for Duckett and Gay don't get a hundred partnership. 10/1 might tempt me in. |
By:
Well worth Stokes and Atkinson being rushed back in to the side
![]() To be fair any bowlers would struggle on this wicket. Not reviewing that Conway lbw shout when he had 71 is looking very costly. We finally have a wicket Smith actually holds on to one . |

Just like Buses.
By:
Both openers gone.
By:
Remarkable how often that happens.
Poor shot from Conway there having played so well, should have just seen the day out. Two new batsmen in now, won't be so easy for them. |
By:
Nicholls helmet saved him, looked like that would have hit him in the temple.
By:
Ravindra out while I was visiting the water closet. I have got us quite a few doing that.
By:
Blimey, now Nicholls. 4 late wickets for England, new ball did the trick. A good come back.
By:
Good Morning. It is going to be an interesting first hour. England need to carry on from last and remove New Zealand. for less than 450.
New Zealand need Mitchell and Blundell to pile on the agony and get 550+. Too hot to do much else than sit back and enjoy the match. |
By:
Never heard of that shot, where he drag edged the ball behind his stumps referred "The Draw" before. Interesting comment from Mike Atherton.
Had it gone behind his legs and in front of the stumps it would have been the old Chinese cut shot which you don't hear them describe as such anymore. |
By:
O'Rourke doing a good job, Smith drops him as I write, so more frustration for England.
Nothing worse in when your fielding than a tail getting runs. |
By:
Mitchell gone, must have been the raised seam that caught the edge of the bat. So fine.
By:
O'Rourke skies one off Stokes, easy catch for Gay.
First hours play to England. |
By:
Third umpire has made a blunder there.
Clearly hitting the arm guard and not the glove wrist band. Unlucky for New Zealand but then again Stokes his making his own luck in a very good spell of bowling. All down to Blundell now. |
By:
New Zealand are making a right mess of this, some very poor shots but also debatable umpiring to say the least.
I don't know about making your own luck, but England have had plenty of it before a ball was bowled. NZ's Goat calling it a day before the second test. Phillips, scores a century in the last match but ruled out with a side strain (old school players would have ignored such piffling injuries). Henry, the current Number 1 ranked bowler in Tests and who destroyed England last week at The Oval, ruled out with a bad calf (didn't stop him bowling like a demon last week ). NZ do remarkably well to compete at test level given they have one thirteenth of the population of the UK, so losing players like that is a real hammer blow. |
By:
Here's my guess, at to what will happen. New Zealand to get 475-500. England may get 350, but may get alot less. New Zealand will rattle along and get another 250 may be all out, but more likely a declaration, with and England will be bowled out for under 200 2nd time around.
By:
That comment got us a couple of wickets
By:
Reverse sweep not a wise decision by Blundell, Bashir will be glad his dropped catch cost nothing.
England 2.88 New Zealand 2.44 Draw 4.10 Would rather have runs on the board, so odds about right. |
By:
Blundell's dismissal sums up the lack of brain cells many modern day players exhibit.
Awful collapse by NZ on a road of a wicket. Further to my earlier post i've just realised Kyle Jamieson is missing for NZ as well due to "managing his workload" ffs ![]() Cricketers (like many other sportsmen) are flaky and mollycoddled beyond belief these days. Despite having every modern day advantage. Make me mad ![]() This leaves NZ with a distinctly second string attack for a deciding test match . Please make it make sense. |
By:
Oh dear. Not a gay day, as Larry Grayson would almost have said
![]() |
By:
Down to money Dixie so some players have bigger priorities. Might make some sense of it.
Easy catch dropped or Duckett would have gone early. |
By:
Not sure what bigger priorities Jamieson has, this is as big as it gets for NZ for a while, they play a few one dayers in the West Indies next month and we all know crowds are low there these days. Add in the points on the line here for the World Test Championships table and it makes even less sense.
That sure was a poor drop, Duckett will probably score a ton now, whatever i think he's lucky to still be in the side. |
By:
50 for Duckett!
By:
new zealand have made a complete mess of this test, deserve to lose now
By:
Have to agree.
Bethell gets his half century, Duckett on 92, hope he gets there. |
By:
just seen the footage of stokes commanding archer to come from the deep to celebrate that wkt , just after bashir dropped a catch off archer,
By:
Yes a complete horlicks today by NZ elis. this time yesterday England were roughly 14s to win but now they are odds on
![]() It must be remembered that NZ have a much shallower squad of players to choose from than England do, hardly surprising given their population is only 5.5m. That is why i cannot believe that they wouldn't risk playing any of the top bowlers who are carrying an injury, given that this is a crucial match in the calendar and they don't have any other really important games coming up for some time. Next month is a one day series v WI, rest them then ! |
By:
Like you say with it 1-1 they have just got to get the best 11 out there
Always punched above their weight and always enjoy watching them. Play the game in the right spirit. Went over there for two tests at Mount Maunganui and Wellington in 2023 two great matches and would love to go back esp to MM. You got the Duckett/forecast ton spot on as well DD! |
By:
Shame i didn't back him to do so barstool - duck it
![]() Yes NZ always good to watch, the late Martin Crowe was a fabulous batsman to observe. Richard Hadlee a magnificent all rounder, i modelled my bowling action on him as a youngster, didn't quite have the same success as he did though ![]() |
By:
You must have had a delightful run up then.
![]() |
By:
One of the best bowling actions of all time imho.
By:
I even did the little shuffle/hop/skip at the start of the run up to get momentum
![]() Any seam bowler of today could do a lot worse than study RH's action, as you say one of the greatest (and very modest with it). Could bat a bit too ! England only 215 behind at close, unless they collapse like NZ they will be well in front this time tomorrow. NZ will have to bat more responsibly second time around to avoid defeat with the weather seemingly set fair (possible drizzle on Sunday). |
