Have to disagree there laying - Test cricket has never been boring to me, it's supposed to be the ultimate in the game and has always fascinated me as opposed to the hit and giggle stuff like the Hundred. Granted you could get the odd unresponsive wicket where teams plundered big scores sedately with no chance of a result but these games were few and far between. A good test wicket gradually deteriorates over the 5 days and allows all aspects of the game to flourish during that time. Can you say that any Ashes series has been boring ? One sided at times maybe but always interesting. How about the great West Indies sides of the 70s/80s or the Aussies 1990s/2000s ? Great to watch even when they were tearing us a new one and certainly never boring !  Look at the series this summer against India, each match had twists and turns and was just as enthralling when the runs dried up as when bazball was in full swing. I realise that todays younger generation tend to have limited attention spans but even they must have watched that series and thought blimey there's more than one way to skin a cat.

It’s crazy,Australian football pitches  usually very good and flat.

We’ve moved the game from the waca,the hardest pitch in Australiam cricket capacity 20k,to the Perth stadium,capacity 60k.we have worked closely with the Cheltenham clerk of the course ,and he guaranteed that with the correct drainage and rollers,no one would notice.

I know I took 10 wickets in successive tests,then 7 in the remaining tests,but it had nothing to do with the flat hard pitches,it was all about line and length.

Just because I hold the record of most wickets in an ashes series,people aIways say I was helped by the pitches.

But I disagree,it’s Really hard bowling on football pitches,but starc.our previous  4th change bowler,managed to get 7. So it shows how easy it can be.

Jim Laker holds the record for wickets in an Ashes series with 46  .  Terry Alderman is 2nd with 42 and also joint 3rd with Hoggy on 41.

Alderman was a very fine seam bowler who we had the pleasure of seeing play for Kent for 3 seasons in the mid 80s.

Not sure about the demise of Test cricket. This is far more exciting than watching a team score 400 in 5 sessions with several maiden overs in a row. This game illustrates what people like about 1 day cricket.

I see they have turned down some pink ball match practice for the batsmen, they really are so cocksure that they know best despite all and sundry saying it should have been a no brainer with the Perth test ending so quickly. If the batsmen get rolled over again in Brisbane then there is nobody left to blame except themselves.

Australia will again be without Pat Cummins for the second Ashes Test in Brisbane as the captain continues to recover from a back injury.

Fast bowler Cummins, who has not played since July, missed Australia's astonishing defeat of England in the first Test in Perth.

The 32-year-old bowled in the nets in Perth and again in Sydney between Tests and was expected to return for the day-nighter at the Gabba, beginning on Thursday.

But Australia have named an unchanged squad, once again led by stand-in captain Steve Smith.

In naming the same 14 players, Australia are also without injured fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, while opener Usman Khawaja retains his place.

Cummins is understood not to have completed the programme required for his return to play in a Test.

He will join the rest of the squad in Brisbane on Sunday as he continues to build towards a comeback.

Missing the second Test means Cummins has almost three more weeks to prepare for a potential appearance in the third match of the series in Adelaide, beginning on 17 December (23:30 GMT, 16 December).

Hazlewood missed the first Test with a hamstring injury and, like Cummins, has been bowling in the nets in Sydney this week. There is no indication as to when the 34-year-old could make his return.
