I would want a tad bigger on England winning Dragon, especially given the lack of proper preparation (which of course the England set up seem perfectly fine with).
The ever lovable Ben Stokes has been gobbing off again, calling Botham, Gooch and Vaughan "has beens" for raising concerns about the lack of match practice prior to the first test. He just can't help himself can he ? By all means defend your position, but don't disrespect some true England greats in the process. There is a continuing air of arrogance about the Bazball team management which if you really are a great side then you can get away with (think WI in the 70s). Trouble is ,England are not as good as certain egos think they are. |

England are a bit shorter now Dragon , due mainly to the Aussie bowlers getting injured ! Hazlewood out of the first test as well as Cummins.
They had Abbot lined up as a replacement but he has picked up an injury as well, you couldn't make it up. England surely have to hit the ground running and take advantage of this depleted attack if they are serious about winning the Ashes this time around. I will concentrate on the top bowler/batsman markets for my bets. Nathan Lyon will doubtless do a fair bit of bowling given the absences of those front line seamers and is 3/1 to be top Aussie wicket taker which is fair . |

Have done Labuschagne series top scorer and Lyon top wicket taker. A few novelty bets for some interest too.
Will have a bet on this first match once i know who is batting first, could be a good toss to win. |

Not at the Waca,hard place,at a footy stadium up the road.
Perth,is basically Aberdeen of Australia,it’s where ronnie Biggs hid ,when on the run. Its wicket was always hard flat,but this footy pitch might be more green,English type wicket. Given its name ,Perth,it’s hard core ex pats from England Scotland.. These were the cat A prisoners,who even Sydney didn’t want,so banished them to Perth. |

Dragon, Labuschagne did lose a bit of form but did what all top batsmen should do, got his head down and scored a load of runs in domestic cricket (four tons in five innings for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield recently) which pretty much meant the selectors had to recall him for this series.

Interested to see how many overs England manage to bowl in a full day with 5 fast bowlers; let's hope they do some damage or it could be hard work.

Australia losing wickets at the same pace as England but only scoring 2 per over compared to 5. It seems that a bowler friendly wicket has been prepared and now it is favouring England. Aus. now having a slog as they realise that playing carefully is not the answer. |

123 for 9. I am afraid the last pair might put on 50 as that is par against England but this time I hope they take the last wicket for no more runs. Then England have to bat again. Boland was struggling and substituted in the field so Aus. might be a bowler short.

A shocking batting effort from both sides. Yes the pitch favours the bowlers but the lack of technique on both sides was pathetic, it's not a one day game guys !
Some of the shots by the Aussies in that last session beggar belief, two caught at mid on and one dollied to third man, head shakingly poor. Listening to the Five Live phone in earlier you would have thought we had already won the series and that Stokes had bowled the greatest spell in Ashes history rather than the batsmen shooting themselves in the foot. God knows what England would have been bowled out for if one or both of Hazlewood and Cummins had been fit, Starc was exceptional but had little support from the other end, the usually reliable Boland was well off form. 19 wickets in a day is the most in an Ashes contest since 1909 - puts the so called batsmen's efforts of today in to perspective. and only a pathetic 72 overs were bowled ! Food for thought though, this time last year at Perth the 1st innings scores were India 150 ao and Australia 104 ao. Second innings India racked up 487/6 dec. Australia were then bowled out for 238 second time around. So the pitch seemed to get easier after Day One. Australia ended up coming back to win the series 3-1. |

that was truly an 'unbelievable jeff' day
Good to see pitches were the bowlers are in the game not boring flat tracks they were undoubtedly aided by less than stellar batting but great viewing What does Wood offer? Can't see him getting many wkts and that shot,out 1st ball was absolutely horrendous So,5-0 England it is then! |

Hopefully Day 2 will be a bit more sedate with some decent cricket Dragon. It used to be the case that you would be wary of planning to go to Day 5 of a test match, now it's Day 3 or 4 ! As you may recall i am not a fan of the bish bash bosh approach in the longer form of the game but unfortunately this is the way cricket has gone.
Wood is a decent impact bowler but cannot be relied on for a full series. Carse and Archer are quick but it never sits well with me when you hear them speaking after a days play and you hear Saffer/Zimbabwean/Barbadian accents from "English" cricketers. Of course other countries have their own imports and other sports (especially Rugby) are even worse in that regard , but i just don't like it. |

Maybe it's just my imagination but the wicket seems to be behaving very unusually. The balls seem
almost to accelerate off the surface and one ball will hop up and the next, similarly bowled will take a nose dive. I think batsmen on both sides were totally at a loss to know what was coming next. By the way can't say I felt any remorse at cheering when Smith got hit on the elbow a couple of times. Karma! |

If i may be so bold rog, it was a typical Perth wicket of late. Certainly bounce and movement for the quicks but nothing outlandish.
Proper test batsmen of the past would relish the challenge. Most on show today simply can't cope unless the track is like a road. England have had good fortune again so far, winning the toss could turn out to be crucial and injuries depleting the Aussie attack. They should win ok from here but the real tests are to follow should Cummins and Hazlewood get fit. |

At 19/1 the England had a caught behind,given not out on DRS,
We ve entered the var line in wrong place world. There wasn’t a spike,there was a thickening of the line on snicko ,a slight fuzziness. So the question is,how high does the spike have to be on snicko.theres no rule,so different umpires will judge it differently. |

dixie's 12.27 post sums it up . i don't want to go back to days of chris tavare but 19 wickets in a day in an opening test match. come on . this has been in the making for a while . enjoy the smash and grab fest folks , but its not for me . its a travesty of what this series should be about .
