No it is a Hail Mary low stakes play tbf but if you get in on this when the sun is out you can score runs. Short square boundaries and a slope.

There are some good bowlers on display in this match so you would fancy a result, however the pitch may not deteriorate too badly. My main concern is that if it looks like rain the ball will swing. Tomorrow will be crucial to my bet.

Glad I will see Rabada bowl tomorrow morning. He is one of the greats imho.

Even the pundits on tv cannot work out what is going on. The pitch is not a mine field. I think the Dukes ball may have an extra coating of laquer. There is still plenty of swing even in the sunshine with an old ball. The pitch itself is low and slow. I do believe if SA apply themselves they can win this tomorrow. The pitch is not getting worse.

Only ourselves to blame as we were in prime position going into the second innings and should have nailed our advantage home. Pitch did nothing today in alarming contrast to days 1 and 2. Thanks driver and I backed SA after watching Starc and Hazlewood both play with absolute confidence in the morning. This is hopefully going to be the second highest ( equal ) chase at Lords behind only Gordon Greenidge’s charge to 342-1 in 1984 and I was at that Test too!

The pitch was always good or rather easy paced and flat and that makes it more of a batting time rating than fast scoring pitch.

Big day  for South Africans and plenty of them in the Grandstand. Excellent atmosphere.

It was actually quite moving when well lubed they stuck up the band and sang en masses Nkosi sikilel iAfrica in the Grandstand. I have never heard anything like that at Lords. Good for cricket and for sport.

It seems a bit odd to have 2 southern hemisphere teams at Lords but it has been a great watch. SA need to get going again soon or they might face a new ball. Hopeful review there!

The current format while not perfect is acceptable. Strange going’s on as India wanted to host but the ICC has given England the next 3 finals. I think it is right the final is held here and at Lords at last. We gave the game to the Empire. Cricket is still only largely played in former British ( English ) Colonies. Most Test players imho want to play at Lords. Cricket is our gift to the World and civilisation.

The idea of fair play is the right one. In practice of course cricket, cricketers and officials are as corrupt and cheat as much as anybody else but cricket fans like the English people ( not the Governing Class though ) believe in the idea of fair play and the spirit of the game.

Perfidious Albion indeed but the ordinary English man believes in fair play and support for the underdog against the bully.

Cricket is also such a traditional game and its history is so important to all of us. What we need more than anything else is some of this tv money being used to pay for grounds men and coaches in less well off countries. Even South Africa is struggling. India might lack batting experience but IF the clouds don’t appear they are more than capable of putting up a big score batting first possibly even more batting second. The forecast is not showing any rain so the pitch might be dry. I’d be inclined to back the side batting first with cover on the draw at 13.5!

pretty inexperienced india batting line up without kohli and sharma and england don't do draws without 2 days of rain. that said hardly any of england's bowlers you could say were reliable at the moment

Don’t disagree but my view is if there is rain pending it will swing. I think it might be sunny. Either team could bat the first two days and the other could bat 3 and 4 although England might be 450 at the end of day 1. It’s just a long odds punt. It might also be dry and take spin 4 and 5 so yes a result is likely.
