Looks like we may get some indifferent weather days 1 and 2. India could be undercooked here but at the same time a little fatigue for the England bowlers. Looking to lay the side batting first expecting some early wickets with the new ball
Agree it might well be a wicketfest with the overheads!
Indian batting probably undercooked and possibly missing both openers. Would like to have a look at the reserve wicket keepers batting. It is a big ask for the Indian batters J think even against a 4th string England attack.
I think the England batting might well be exposed here after the recent pyrotechnics and tbf heroics. 1,2,3 and 5 have technical issues, which, will be tested in a TEST Match.
I hope the wicket is not too flat. I really do not know what to expect except entertainment!
Time to belt up and enjoy the ride!

Ball nibbling around enough to keep the bowlers interested. As well as cloud cover. Wicket looks a little dead. England to have the best of the batting conditions tomorrow. Forecast mixed this afternoon. Could be an on and off afternoon but ok next 4 days.

Even weather is hard to call. India could get good batting conditions on the third day although if England are still batting day 3 the game might be theirs for the taking. Tomorrow doesn’t look great either. I am going to be there. The feeling is we are going to have a good day out regardless of the weather. Should brighten up after lunch tomorrow at

entirely outdated comments...but Crawley might benefit a bit from reigning in the big drives early in his inns against the new ball and actually making some effort to get his foot a bit nearer the pitch of the ball..

Bstard in the form of his life playing beautifully I have to say. He is not dragging everyone leg either. He seems to have a lot more time on the ball and is not trying to hammer it.

it's amazing what confidence can do for a batsman..probably playing as well as any batsman in the world atm,Babar Azam excepted
and unlike that arrogant, overrated, bigged up pr1ck Stokes who i'd drop,is playing with smart, controlled aggression albeit some loose shots in there but fair play to the guy
for me,a test of what England are about is,assuming they avoid the follow in,they will have, this time round,in all likelihood,an insuperable target to chase down
leaving only the India win or draw as probable results
let's see them, bat professionally and SAVE a match in the face of a decent bowling attack but by no means a minefield of a batting strip.

You could clearly see it bounce into his hand - if it had hit his fingers it would have rolled/bounced not clearly bounce. The umps on field are guessing and can’t possibly see it bounce and obviously the days on going what the fielder says (esp a team with kholi in!) are gone. In this case he prob didn’t know but the replays were clear to me.

true but as the soft signal was out u have to have 'incontrovertible' evidence to counter it. now had it been given 'not out' it would've been a 2 second job by the 3rd umpire to confirm it imagine if THAT decision were the defining point in an Ashes or World Cup or smth

Kinda knew this was possible with this style weve adopted
India have grind us down so fair play to them, at least its enjoyable so I wont moan about it when we get beat
Bairstow is on fire for us

ditto..just laid them @ 3.95..they HAVE enough time to score the runs w/o going gung ho
at more than one stage they may well look on course but their lack of discipline will do for them come the finish
they have to set a new record for an England team to chase these down
India's bowlers should be good enough to deny them but we'll see.

looked pretty tough against the new ball yesterday at the start of India inns...I'd want more than the 3.90 on offer to back Eng here ...this isn't as flat as Trent Bridge or Headingley imo.

With you WD, cannot see them chasing this and the England lay looks very tasty, had a nibble.
Not too significant a bite, as I'd love us to get going and see where that takes things...

We're 2.8 at 33-0, chasing 378 - what price would we have been, in this precise scenario, had this 'fifth' test been the actual fifth test last year?
I'd go 5.4. (Even that feels short)

yep, at least that I'd have thought but I suppose back to back top ten chases in England have to have some impact..
nice from Crawley...bit more selective and then they bowl straighter get the odd gift...he's very strong off his legs as well..

Plenty of time and the pitch seems to be playing OK. Get runs when you can until the ball is 30 overs old and then let fly as the bowlers tire. As we saw against NZ, big scores in the fourth innings are not impossible if you believe.

Bairstow's been one thing the past four matches but it has always looked risk-heavy, works one day (or four in a row, in his current case), doesn't another.
I'll surely hex this but this hasn't been an all-out ODI assault, it's just been maximum positivity.

Exactly like you say, b and hopefully this wakes Crawley up, moving forward with his career.
He's 40+ from 60 and been *leaving* the ball more than ever. Pick the right time/delivery.

certainly showed some character anyway - must have felt under pressure for his place despite the public backing but just giving yourself that early look at stuff from 4th/5th stump and outside..always remember the likes of Viv and Ponting with pronounced leaves early on and not many more destructive than those..

It does help when the ball is behaving itself but it must do wonders for their confidence after such a long spell of losing early wickets. Why did I say that? Crawley out again without playing a stroke. A dreadful way to go. Plenty of batting to come though.

we seems to have a ginger run machine this summer...
think we've been the right side of mental here as well...that period where Bairstow and Root just battled through allied to Crawley having a look first up I've really liked accepting it's as ever results driven how we tend to view it but as you say sonts' - we is the entertainers !

Hard to surpass the 150odd-in-2.4overs, post-tea nonsense at Trent Bridge but this has been astonishingly impressive.
As I said earlier whilst Lees & Crawley were at it, this hasn't been gung-ho mayhem this afternoon, just uber-positive batting and running.
Superb time to be an England fan!

incredible stuff...pitch probably hasn't done as much as it did yesterday at times but think a fair bit of that is the pressure they kept India under for a large part of the inns as well..
as ever it all looked tougher when a couple of wickets fell but India at times didn't know what to do...

I don't have access to WinViz (I probably should) but I'm often surprised how far out of line the market is with it.
Today alone (paraphrasing the numbers slightly, all from Sky coverage):
When India were 59%, England 39% - market had both at 2.02 or thereabouts.
When England were shown at 58%, India 41% - market had England 1.42.
In essence, those should pretty much be identical markets (if we trust the WV algos)

After the opposition panic, the second best thing about our approach is that there's only one new ball!
Seemingly even if you're chasing almost 400 in the fourth. Absolutely mental

Ravi Shastri at lunch regaling how "the runs are just a bonus above 330-350 lead".
At close now...he's overtly lamenting India's batting, saying they didn't get enough runs, weren't attacking enough and should've batted 'til tea.

I just get it off there if sky haven't shown it for a while...I'll be honest I don't hold much value to it but it's an interesting reference point at times.

Thought wed lost yesterday but yet again we utterly take apart their bowling (nz as well) and basically chase a decent target with ease
Its mental

absolutely abject, woeful, pathetic 'bowling' from India bar Bumrah,no one looked remotely like taking a wkt England could've chased down a 1000 they are now officially invincible test cricket is now officially dead no one will ever want to play them again..GSM for mighty Albion..the magic formula has been found despite all the above..kudos to them..their cup brimmeth over with confidence

It must be hard to play against us at the minute, weve turned into the Aussies when 5 down for nothing and still getting to a competitive score
Weve become aggressive but controlled with it

these ball changes are ridiculous, should try and import some kookaburra's or SG's for the SA series..
thought India might still have had a chance to at least make it nervy with the early overheads but plain sailing again so far..sun coming out
300-3 is just taking the pi$$

No.what is taking the p is the pathetic, insipid Indian bowling..England are just scoring at absolute will India nowt but flat track bullies on their own manor England have absolutely cakewalked this, would have had more of a battle against India women

easy to say now johnny, but just refer back to where they were after the first innings!. History being made and how. And they did it in 76 overs without having to play the second new ball!

Truly extraordinary from England Johnny tbf. Extraordinary summer and extraordinary series. India really opened the door when they did not score another 75 odd runs but would England have got them? Yes if India bowled this badly.
Still not sure about this team but Johnny Bstard seems to have turned a corner. Had vattinv was really measured. When he plays across the line he waits for the fuller ball and is not working it from off. Stokes might do well to study his application and discipline. Baseball is big a thing.
Still not convinced by England top 3, spinner, fast bowler but they have done magnificently thus summer.

it was really anti climactic watching that..there was no uncertainty as to what was happening,it was an absolute train England did what they had to do in no uncertain manner but India's careless, nonchalant batting setting a target way below what it should have been and their toothlessly pitiful bowling took any excitement right out of the game they should be ashamed of that performance and i bet the Indian Press will not be too kind on them

Whod have thought this was gonna happen 3 months ago, ridiculous turnaround and we’re seeing high chases easily gotten with the best controlled batting ive seen from us
Bairstow has gone up 5 gears, god knows what theyve been put him on since the spring

lost in all this is that england have (obviously) taken 20 wickets 4 matches in a row. getting india out for 250 2nd dig was an incredible effort on this

I don’t disagree Johnny but credit where due. Who’da thought the NZ and Indian attack would be humbled like this? England were lucky on occasion and the stars lined up for them. Like U have been saying we still need a top 3 ( I will give Pope a fair go ), a spinner and a fast bowler. Also someone to bowl between overs 30-80! Everything is not rosy in the garden but they did what they did!

Not necceserily because the Aussies are better than NZ and India and esp India in our conditions
We need a more stable opener, a better number 3 and a frontline spinner and we’ll be almost the full package here in England
Its a case of can we do it in India and Pakistan... I doubt we’ll see this level of aggression working over there against good spinners
