Gough called it right. I think TV commentators got it wrong ( I think ). Good toss to lose. Looks a belter of a pitch and we did not bowl well today. Lucky to get the 2 wickets to keep us in it.
Bowling full is smart but not wide. That first Broad over after lunch was terrible.

Draw finally below what it was after 10 overs! I know 5 days with no rain delays is a long time but at this rate there will only be 85 overs each day. Review coming!

Nice not to have any women commentators in this series Butch is a top commentator, surprised he doesn't get more tests

I am sure Kees is a decent cricketer band score runs on wickets like this but he is not equipped to do well at this level. Planting your feet and swinging the bat might work at county level but not against the best and he will continue to be found out against decent bowlers.
CrWkey and particularly Pope have it but again Crawley needs to tighten up. Pope will continue to get out if he plays across straight balls. He is though looking good in this pitch. Could be a good player if he gets some good coaching or better still advice.

More fight in them already? Root is to nice with the team and the opposition, Stokes strikes me as someone who has that “run through brick walls for him” vibe.

Still on the draw but a bit surprised that it has not really shortened up since tea. Back out to 1.5 now. Anyone really see a winner and if so who? If England declare when ahead (and why would they) NZ need to score 350 plus tomorrow in 5 hours and then hope to bowl England out again. England are one up so why would they take any risks? Only the first 20 overs of each new ball seem to pose any threat to batters.

Ordinarily yes you'd think why wouldn't England just bat on, but we're in the era of McCullum the Brave now :) If he sent his captain out swinging yesterday when they were still over 200 behind, maybe they'll bat up to 550 or let Rooty get 200, then declare. Then the ball's in the Kiwi's court, sure they could smash 350 but if England hold some catches they could be bowled out for 250. We've seen hardly any variable bounce, Kiwis have no frontline spinner and Jamieson is waiting on an MRI scan. Who knows whether the series result will even come into the reckoning? England can't make it into the final of the test championship so they may consider this series a free hit.

Can’t see a declaration! England are still 80 behind. Let’s get there first! Furthermore why would you give NZ a sniff of winning! Bat, bat and bat. No rush. Bat all day if you can. Bat tomorrow morning if you still gave wickets in hand and hood the pitch will deteriorate. No brained!

These two are batting really well! Boule is getting swing from thd hand from a very old ball! Anything could happen here. I have NZ Green so not going to punt this any further but I would like to see how a new batsman might fare!

I suggest the ball might swing after the lawyer comes off. Nice cloud cover and if the sun comes out Leach may play his part.
England could also lose this just as easily.
Pitch is dtill good enough to see out a draw so J shall green out on all three results and maybe a bucket on the Thai

Mind you cobber J don’t think your gun is over. You might get even more of a laugh eating England bat. Odds for 40-4 The Ingerland? zIngerland?

But if yoh have backed the draw I fully inderstyyiur frustration and anger!
I backed England when NZ were 4 down in thd first innings. Thd ball was wobbling a little and then it gets deposited in some woman’s cider…. Result 553!
I am looking to have a nice little 3 way green now. Need to check if I have the Thai as well

unless these last 3 wkts add some 50 odd runs and take time doing it which would take the run chase almost out of the equation (save a prolonged T20 assault)
it is set up for a truly absorbing day 2moro with all 3 results possible
can Eng do a Lords victory and if not can they stave off defeat by eking out a draw?

England will go for a win tomorrow. It should be a great days cricket. Pitch still looks fairly decent. Small boundaries and fast outfield. England do need the 3 wickets quickly. NZ die. The talk bowler who would be dangerous in the mast day against a side batting to win.

This is what happens when you have an attack minded coach and captain
Root would have defended and set a awful field today

New ball due in 11 overs. England should be batting before lunch and I feel sure the coach/captain will instruct the team to go for the win.
England chasing 280 -300 in 70 overs ?
Wev'e got a great days cricket ahead.

my crystal ball tells me Albion's crash and burn policy will result in the former
they will look like getting there and then one major wkt will beget others as in the pathetic collapse in the 1st inns
both teams poor 2nd inns batting will ensure a million to one on draw will likely not eventuate

Kiwis winning is probably the likeliest of the outcomes in as much as no test side seems capable de nos jours of batting as opposed to thrashing in order to draw a match..all too prone to collapsing under pressure and out of their comfort zones

The ball will go soft soon. I think Bstard will go after Bracewell. I certainly hope he does. There is still time for England as Boult and Henry need a rest. It should be exciting and keep all results open. I certainly hope England go after the debutant.

Wild odds fluctuation. If you can buy high sell low you can make some good money!
Glad lees is out! Stokes and Bstard can manoeuvre the ball around the pitch to keep the game a live but not much batting left after these two. I think the draw is likely now so hope Bracewell gets into the action as I have green on England and NZ to transfer. Unlikely |England price will move to satisfactory levels so my money is resting on more wickets to create doubt.

Surprised that the draw is still just odds on. I would make NZ favourite now but still sitting on the draw bets. What ever they say, surely England will prefer a draw to risking a loss?

It says minimum 40 overs today so we could be facing a long session after tea. That will be tough on NZ.
Still think a draw is likely here and need to green soon. The temptation is to wait because these two are game changers. See of Boult here and England are also looking strong

OK It says 38 overs left, but how many will there actually be. Does the "final hour" begin at 17:30 ? You'd expect 35 overs if that was the case - not 38.

Took a healthy green. can't beleive how easy it has been for these two but this is one helluva innings by Bstard.
Go on my son.ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Mind you I love that Gilbert Jessop still is on the books!

I think that goes down as an Adidas 3 stripe choke from the Kiwi's. I wonder if Suzie the waitress was at their hotel last night?
I cannot for the life of me understand why they would bowl short to Bstard to the short boundary? Always bowl top of off to him. He gets bowled so often and this is the 5th day. Madness from Black Cats.

let's not get carried away here too much good as that partnership between the 2 gingers was are you seriously telling me it's smth that couldn't have been replicated on demand by Boycott and Tavare had it been required of them? and another thing i sincerely doubt we would've witnessed that blitzkrieg prior to the advent of T20 when he's on it JB is uber destructive unbelievable r/r post tea even for a T20 another expert bout of rope-a-doping by Eng btw that has to be one of the highest 1st inns total to lose a test from?! just a runway

Its good in that if it was Root and Silverback still in charge wed have tried to defend and been out for less than 150
Weve got attacking players so they need to be allowed to attack its their nature, telling them to defend will only lead to confusion and loose shots

I picked up on that too! Bring on the Aussies, India, whoever! erm no! We still need a top 3 and a fast bowler and a spinner and as exciting as Johnny was a batsmen who plays straight and averages more than 34. We also need an all rounder and I hope they try and get Moen in before we go to Pakistan. Sorry for Leach but he has no guile.
are you seriously telling me it's smth that couldn't have been replicated on demand by Boycott and Tavare had it been required of them?
Yes Johnny! we are telling you they could not! That was an exceptional knock from Bstard not helped by stupidity of trying to bounce him on a flat wicket with a short boundary and medium fast bowlers. I am sort of glad Gilbert Jessop still holds the record. Johnny is a nice lad and I wish him well but I am now glad he did not get the record.
btw that has to be one of the highest 1st inns total to lose a test from?!
6th highest! [/i]
It wasn't a complete runway. There was a bit of wobble. I backed England when NZ were something like 227-4 I think hoping for a couple of quick wickets!. The ball was showing signs of swing until it landed in the cider! But good surface certainly for a Test Match!

fair play to England..it was phenomenally sustained aggression but it was a belter to bat on,fast outfield, smallish ground and Boult aside(and even he came in for some stick) the bowling didn't really trouble the batsmen
what i would like to see proof of and this is true of basically all the top test sides,is,had the onslaught been stopped in its tracks by a cpl of quick wkts falling ,could the side have 'dug in' to attritionally save the game?
if they are capable of so doing it bodes well but remain to be convinced
it was an exhilirating game re runs scored but not enough in the pitch for the bowlers imho

Oh for sure we aint beating the Aussies away quite yet
But under the old lot we were losing these tests last year, we collapsed like a deck of cards
Already seen improvement just need to build in it

Delighted to see that Root and Bairstow have risen magnificently above the appalling, ridiculous and totally unjustified slating that Yorkshire Cricket and Cricketers were subjected to last year by various chancers.
