Staying true to their reputation, Pakistan busted odds of 1.15 in Manchester. Not the best return as per their standards but I guess they can't always make it look so obvious.
In our quest for the next fix, we move to the port city of Southampton. According to the weather experts, there is rain around.
No need to do any research for this game. My sources tell me it will come down to Pakistan comfortably heading to a draw with rain forecast on the last day. They will get a couple of hours play, which as we all know is enough time for a collapse.
Don't mess this up and be green when the right time comes.
Like last time, a picture of the famous Akmal brothers who brought us all the luck in the last test.
Pakistan Zindabad.

Vis at Cowes is better than it's been all day. Can see both banks of Southampton Water.
Blighty groundstaff require a Great Leap Backwards

Elf and safety would stop young lads helping out! In case they got injured
Broadcasters could force ICC to cover grounds fully when it rains. Don't think the ICC will bother on its own.
Drainage much better at the UK grounds compared to the overseas ones, even those covers would be useless against this much rain
and you often see damp pitches on the wicket because either the covers are crap or they're negligent in taking them off
I'm sure the Brits can make waterproof covers. They don't have to import from Lanka. Just use common sense like they do.

Inspection at 140.
Well timed inspection. They'll just act pro active and take early lunch.
Everyons should be green by now

The 1200 rainfall radar does look like they'll get another shower either side of 1. Should be clear after that.

Just going through the motions
Like unenthusiastic sewer workers.
Run-up covers off, outfield being super-soppered, but it's currently drizzling.
Draw about to touch 1.3 when match starts,,125 runs at 1.2x so free
Still extremely unlikely that it starts anywhere close to the 140 inspection, based on what they've said so far.
deluge up here in the north this afternoom, never seen rain like it
Run ups spongy, bad area on the edge of the square, no standing water elsewhere. Key reckons they could play at some point, but for how long?!
If they don't start after the next inspection it must be game over.
remarkable how in 2020 and in the UK a wet outfield is stopping play in a major sporting event watched Globally by 100m people with £100ms generated in TV revenue, but can not provide £10k tarpaulin to cover the whole ground !! either hopeless or incompetence
They haven't got the groundstaff to do it.
In the UK you can't just organise 100 kids to help without z boat load of red tape

Would have made more but betting from my phone and its hard to track multiple things

What times the earliest they could stop playing if they get on ?
When 15 over remain in the day or when the last hour starts, whichever comes later
So 27 overs before they shake hands? 150 lay in trouble.

Anyone been listening to TMS for the last 45 mins
Yes coz I know how one sentence can move market
It becomes aural wallpaper until I hear a keyphrase like *groundstaff* when I perk up

This could be the best fiddle since the Bangles threw that test against the hounds
Bet the fielders are bricking it in case they drop a catch off Jimmy!
Done well to get on at all. Bat on this with a stick of rhubarb.

Bradman should be taken out of all records
He only played against England
I could have averaged 100 against that dross!

I do think The Don was great myself, participation was much greater in Eng & Aus and the gap between him and everyone else was an absolute chasm. Some think the gap is the biggest among any sportsman of any sport. The Don & Wayne Gretsky
When is the soonest the captains can shake hands on a draw?
No way they will shake especially with the new pill and 3 rabbits
This is how The Don got great

these days the only part of sport that i think that standards are much better than yesteryear is fielding in cricket
Think England just trying to get to the new ball asap
Since he returned what has Archer contributed?
He isn't any good with the bat so if he isn't taking wickets what's he there for?
Is Sir Geoffrey the only one to ask the question?
This should be a talking point just as much as Butler's keeping (at least there is another reason for him to play), the opening partnership, lack of a decent spinner....

Pleased to see them all shaking hands at the end. Michael Holding pointed it out but didn't express an opinion, I'm guessing he was in favour though. No doubt the BBC will be up in arms about it as usual!

The hand shaking looked preempted to me, as if the players were trying to make a public statement.
Well done Joe, you shook hands 2 days ago,,,,,,,,,,,,
Personally, I think they should have bumped elbows, but there's a big difference between
a) people shaking hands if they've been living in a bubble for weeks and being tested every day, and
b) most people shaking hands.

I think you are right but I would defend his inclusion. He offers something different and he doesn't get the new ball, doesn't get to bowl at bunnies, bowls into the wind and is always brought on when the pitch dies.
He is a must for Australia along with Wood. People forget how tame the England attack can be when the ball goes soft. We have had extraordinary weather conditions with the ball swinging and seaming at times up to 75 overs. Plenty of early wickets too. If we face a strong opening partnership we might be in trouble but yes Archer's contribution needs to be assessed.
Butler should not be wicket keeper. Simple as that. Let him fight for a batting spot. I would rather have Johnny Bstard at 6. Don't get me wrong I do like him and want him to do well for England and am a big fan of his talent but Test Cricket is different. Maybe he is starting to understand it now but Foakes imho is the best keeper and should have the gloves. He can bat too and might even make more runs than Butler.
Burns to me looks vulnerable and a potential liability in Aus if he does not address moving his front leg too far. I think he is in credit for me and deserves support. He certainly has the right mentality for Test cricket. My own feeling is Crawley moves up to open. I would like to wait to move Pope to 3 but maybe get him in now.
Bess is not good enough yet. The hero of Headingly should have been given a chance this summer. My preference if for both Moen and Rashid if they can demonstrate form and desire. 3 seamers and Stokes. How do Anderson and Broad go overseas? I am not sure I would play both. I would play Archer or Wood.

for the tests in asia in the winter I think the way to go is drop burns everyone else moves up a spot with buttler at 6 and foakes keeping. then 2 spinners with leach as your number 1 and your 2 other seamers. madness that bess has been preferred to leach this summer. hardly surprising he's not up to it given his age. just doesn't have the necessary control at this stage of his career. spinners tend to develop later and somerset wouldn't dream of picking bess in front of leach
