Let's keep it simple.

If Smith doesn't play England win!

No rain in the forecast, draw looks impossible.

Don't expect England to make any changes, Roy looks a walking wicket opening the batting but there are no outstanding candidates to replace him.
Would like to see Denly open and have Roy in at 4 or even move Stokes up to 4 and have Roy at 5.
At least give him a chance to see if he can do something before he's dropped from the team.
There's no way he's a test match opener but he might be good in the middle order, lets find out.

Australia might give Starc a game instead of Siddle who looked pretty ordinary.
If Smith isn't fit then Labuschagne will play.
Don't see them making any other changes.

There was 8 runs left to get. Given Stokes on strike next over who was looking likely to finish it in two hits or get caught slogging it up in the air. It was completely the correct decision even if Paine himself believed it was just a 5% chance of being out.

I was wondering today if this was the worst aussie side to retain or win an ashes series in eng. Surely they must be right up there among the worst? Thank goodness the series is alive. Both teams are competing against each other trying to be the worst of the two. Aus really should have run away with the game in the third innings. They didnt and paid the price.
Report alun2005 August 25, 2019 8:38 PM BST

@ DT Draw traded as low as the 100s after being 1,000,.
I guess cos people mistook it for the Tie.
I think the lowest it traded in the entire match was about 6-ish early on the first day.
Report detraveller August 25, 2019 8:50 PM BST
Aus have a lot of questions to answer.

What's wrong with Warner?
Has he got a decent opening partner?
Who's Mathew wade? Or more importantly, where?
Would Paine be in the team were he not the captain?
Why no starc?

I am assuming head or wade will go if Smith comes back.

Meanwhile England have just one question to answer. Who will bail us out in the next game?
And they have enough Matchwinners in their team to not bother about answering that question.
Would love a comeback from Moeen, just for the fun.
