Post update Amy Lofthouse BBC Sport at Old Trafford There is an umpire on the outfield, leaning on his brolly, rather than sheltering underneath it. He's in deep conversation with the groundstaff and the guy on the super sopper. The India fans have also started cheering - I thought it had stopped raining but Elly Oldroyd has just come in to tell me "there is actual water falling from the sky." Let's just play indoor cricket from now on. One hand one bounce. The works. |

16.10.2 Semi Final •
If a Semi-Final is tied, the teams shall compete in a Super Over to determine which team progresses to the Final. Refer attached Appendix H. • If following a tie, weather conditions prevent the Super Over from being completed, or if the match is abandoned or a no result at the end of the reserve day, then the team which proceeds to the Final will be the team that finished in the higher position in the League Stage. |

Fast bowler Liam Plunkett says England will be favourites to win their World Cup semi-final against Australia at Edgbaston on Thursday.
Australia beat England in the group stage but the hosts won their final two matches to reach the semis, while Aaron Finch's men lost to South Africa on Saturday. "We're back to where we want to be," Plunkett told BBC Sport. "We know when we play our good cricket we can beat anyone in the world." |

Expect Moeen Ali to come back in place of Plunkett now

4.45pm Looks like we have an update (kind of): We understand that if the match fails to start by 1835 local time (for a 20-over game) then it will be deferred to tomorrow. And for that to happen the rain has to ideally stop by 1730.

BBC Sport at Old Trafford Do you remember when it wasn't raining? Because I don't. It's got grimmer here. ![]() |

Funnily enough, it's been raining in Aberdeen for most of the day but you'd get a 20 over match in starting now

If the weather forecaster for DDay was as much a hopeless guesser as the bbc seem to employ nowadays the mission might have failed.

This will help the matched volume be a big one. Could even see a record of its a tense and dramatic chase which it could well be.

By:
RIGHT. In order for us to get a 20 over game in, it has to start by 18:35 BST. As it will take roughly an hour to clear, it basically has to stop raining at 17:30. If not, we come back tomorrow.

Plunkett should keep his trap shut ffs

Post update OK, a long way to go. But groundstaff are removing the outer tarpaulins and getting the super sopper going off those patches to soak up the surface water. |
|
By:
this is senseless with there being a reserve day, most of the crowd left the ground
|
|
By:
lets see how heavy the BCCI lean on the umps |
|
By:
India do not want to be facing a 20 over target I am pretty sure. it would be better for them to come back tomorrow and finish a full 50 over game if they don't get back out tonight but I don't know what the rules are. Shirley overs are being lost already?

BBC Weather's Paul Mott: "Rainfall at Old Trafford is likely to only slowly ease through the next hour. It does look like remaining rather cloudy and cool with further occasional spots of rain until at least 7pm, these moving in from the Irish Sea. There should eventually be a few bright or sunny intervals developing just before sunset but we will probably struggle to see any further play this evening."

If they start a reduced overs game, it remains a reduced overs game, even if further interrupted and they come back tomorrow.
