Insulting that I can only get 18 or so on the draw here. Not taking that.

The Indian batting has Pujara and Kohli and this innings a solid start from the openers so far but Australia just brought a bowling all rounder in for a batsman, albeit one who was performing poorly, so I wouldn’t be too worried that they’ll score massively first innings, at least not yet.

I did and ... I didn’t. Could have been winning absolutely masses on this if I’d come in draw green in the 5s, not very red at those prices. Given that though, I’ve had a very fine test, because I’ve had pretty brassy balls to lay all the way down to 1.68.

Would have been nice if he’d held that.

Report detraveller • December 29, 2018 12:43 AM GMT
As i said earlier as well, Kohli and co must have known something about the pitch to have batted once and big and so slow from start to end in the first innings. That approach did wonders as we have seen.

I don’t think the market has quite let go of rain affecting the game significantly yet. Without it, this can’t really make it far past tea of day 5, can it, even in the unlikely event of the Aussies not folding?

Stubborness and luck are great trading attributes. Luck especially. The two work especially well together though.

I was kind of thinking my massive losses this round of tests would balance out my huge politics wins for various things not happening this year. As it is, I’ll be paying another huge chunk of PC, I think, now I’ve gone green in the Kiwi game and have very good prospects of winnnig over £4k here. Went ages without paying any then got £300 or so a couple of weeks ago, trivial amount last week and then nearly £3k this. Dream run really.

Agreed. From a flat position I’d probably lay draw for about 10% of my bank here and that would be underdoing it. Kelly probably says put 80% of your bank on.

Draw price was crazy - a simple look at the rain radar could tell anyone that 32/1 to lay the draw during the rain break was a giveaway, the only limitation being the size of the bank. Anyway, the weather play enabled an extra £105 to be squeezed out, for a final profit of a round £500 and the 7th straight test win of the month :-)
Report Whisperingdeath • December 30, 2018 8:56 AM GMT
Well done boys. I managed to clear four figures. All bets on first and second days I think. initially went for the draw but switched to India fortuitously at around 2.16 and just sat and watched. The pitch was tough to call for the first two days. I feel I called the match and pitch well given the information at the time but the line is fine and am glad I didn't lump on the draw or try and squeeze out a few extra shekels losing what I had infront. Looking forward to Sydney and guessing how much the pitch might spin or not!

WD, looking at the Shield matches at Sydney so far, it's been tough taking wickets with 2 draws (one of which was rain affected but involved two very generous declarations) ... need to keep an eye on pitch news because traditionally it's a wicket-taking pitch that no longer seems to be the case! Could be another two days of draw plunge...
Report detraveller • December 30, 2018 12:00 PM GMT

Report Whisperingdeath • December 30, 2018 2:59 PM GMT
Yes I was listening to the radio and an Aussie, maybe Nannes said the pitch does not turn that much or if it does it is not off the straight but out of the rough and that it is slow and low.

Haven't looked at the weather yet. Not sure what to do, will wait. Contemplating draw back tbh but need to see pitch and weather.

Big pressure on Aus to drop Marsh x2. Bring in Burns at the top, maybe push Finch lower down. Who do they bring in. Maxwell? At least he is Maverick although does not seem to be a Test player. Pattinson? They have three will a 4th make any difference? Another batsman? Good idea but who?

There is also talk of preparing a green top which should even the odds for a Russian Roulette shoot out winner takes all, which, I think is Aussie's best bet.

Not sure it's possible to manufacture a "green top" in Sydney, given the temperature. Weather set mostly fair. Melbourne was supposed to offer something early doors but didn't, I expect Sydney to be the same and for both teams to continue with their policies of grinding out large first innings score (esp India, in whose interest it is to bat and bat and bat and bat). I've taken a matched nibble at 6s, but will keep an eye on situation before adding any more...
Report Fatslogger • December 30, 2018 10:29 PM GMT
Won huge on this but gave it all back and more in today’s football. Do well to have a big red on a day when you have a £4.5k win come in overnight.

I’m looking for the traditional draw back to lay for Sydney. Aus look rather short to me too, have to say. How will they win if it’s a good wicket? Obviously there are ways but their batting is so dubious batting first won’t necessarily see them well placed and bowling isn’t likely to go well, despite their mint quicks. Actually, on that note and I know it’s been said a fair bit, Starc really doesn’t seem the same bowler without sandpaper in action. He’s had a poor few months since the bans,,

Article on cricinfo about how India were more effective bowling in overs 40-80. We obviously all know why now!
Report Whisperingdeath • December 31, 2018 3:01 PM GMT
Starc I think is a damn fine bowler, pick of the crop for me but hasn't been at his best this series and it is fair to say with sand paper he is almost unplayable at the speed he bowls. That is not a joke.

England were suspicious of what was happening to them in the last Ashes. England put more work on the ball than anybody in Test Cricket and they couldn't get the ball to reverse. I think we all berated them for their lack of that ability and I certainly thought they lacked the speed to be effective outside Engerland. If I called any of them cart horses I apologise!
Report Whisperingdeath • December 31, 2018 3:39 PM GMT
Taken an initial punt on the draw at 6.6

Figure it will be sunny for most of the Test so not much help for the bowlers. I would like to be all over India like a rash if they win the toss but caution must prevail. Pitch, teams, toss, new ball, early morning juice then we can see where we are

Rohit is on nappy changing duties. I see no point in bring back an out of form opener but Isaw no point in the two openers India put in the line of fire in the last match. I would now bring another spinner in, Aswin as they don't need to push for the win with Kuldeep. They can play the game, ground and pound with bat and ball. Slow the game and frustrate Aus.

Aus may bring in the leggie, Finch to remain as opener.
