Pelting rain here all the way down to the Gold Coast. Brisbane least affected, but still no doubt would be copping it.

Could be worse I'm praying for rain in the desert

Thought the 3rd umpire would bottle it, very tight stumping.

Yes that's where ive been mugging the last two months actually. Quite a different world stock trading. But many things common with sports betting too. One of the things I like i you almost never lose all your money and can let a bet ride for years :)
Be careful not to end up with an awful lot of money tied up in dud investments though - if you slowly lose half your money in an investment that you could have sold at a 10% loss in the first month and invested the rest in a stock that has since doubled then your effective net loss (your "opportunity cost") is actually not far off being almost double the current value of the dud investment, which may never recover and end up being almost a total loss if you never sell it. It's rare for companies to go bust, but often they dwindle in value to be hardly worth selling, or they get bought out at a fraction of the price you paid, or they do a debt-for-equity swap and you end up with your shares being diluted 100s of times.
(Illustrations below per £100, ignoring dealing costs).
Scenario A
£100 left invested in stock A, six months later, value £50. No money to invest elsewhere, or if sold and invested, needs to double simply to break even.
Scenario B
£100 sold at 10% loss = £90, invested in stock B, doubles in a few months, value now £180. Net gain of £80 on original £100.
The "unlimited" time aspect doesn't necessarily work in your favour unless you use it wisely. At least a five-day Test match "investment" forces you to make decisions and gives you a quantifiable result quickly. The only issue with Test matches as an actively managed investment medium is that there aren't enough of them!
not forgetting the slim chance of an untimely downpour

Nice to hear from you VV. You're right about a lot of things, especially getting money tied up. I don't necessarily agree with your scenarios as you assume stock B will double even though it often happens that stock B goes down and stock A has increased in value again. Also the whole thing is manipulated so your best bet is to choose a good company and hope it doesn't run out of favors with the street.
