Weather looks fine for 1st 3 days at least and no leaden skies forecast this far out, good news as far as I'm concerned.   Last Indian tour here which was also last test played here Moeen took 8 wickets.   Spin is on the table and Eng look short.

No leaden skies in forecast for 1st 4 days, no 3 day test this one, might even tempt me into getting on draw

I can recall India getting hammered here in 2014, but it feels different this time. I see that Mark Nicholas is advocating Vince to get picked, ahead of Bairstow and Jennings but IMO it makes no difference who gets picked, there's no stand out name missing, they just have to do better.

I'd be interested to see if India keep the same XI too, or rest Ashwin, or pick another spinner to help him. Not sure who they'd drop though.

Regrettably I am out of the country for the entirety of this match and do not foresee much opportunity to keep track of what's going on, so have to decide if I want to lump and leave on a draw lay at 5.x or just not get involved. I get a bit twitchy if a Test is on and I've got nothing on it though #notaddicted

With no leaden forecast this should be the best trading game of the series, long batting partnerships and draw on the table.

Unless it's dead flat I'm not really convinced either batting line ups could bat out 5 days for a draw.

No bet here till I see what the pitch is like. Don't like the sound of green and bouncy FFS is is hard enough for either side to bat on a decent pitch. I really would like to see a Chairman's wicket for once! Ashley not true, a good fast wicket would be good, bounce is ok but I don't want a green one where the toss wins the match!

Will wait for an opportunity although may just lay England at odds on and hope India win the toss! I wonder what the loss would be on India losing that toss?

Where is our resident ****, I mean toss expert? Shirley India are due to win a toss soon?

Curran on a flat deck with the sun out will be interesting. India already have a speed advantage in the bowling dept. Grey as feck in Kent. Weather not looking good here. Will check. Draw has gone out so much sounds like someone knows if there is grass on the pitch and I say let's play ball!

The pitch had a tinge of green but is expected to be a bat-first surface albeit with a challenging first session for the batsmen. Spin can come into play at the ground - Moeen took a six-wicket haul in the fourth innings in 2014 - but the pitch is not expected to change character quickly. The forecast is for a dry and mild five days, if the match lasts that long.

India's attack will love the Southampton pitch imo. I see this tournament levelling up at 2-2 for grand climax,   which would be great from a neutral perspective

I might well hop on the draw at these prices.

I got day 5 tickets for the Oval! So I hope it goes 2-2! I also got day 1 but it will be a great occasion if it is all square. I got a feeling for a draw at the Oval too and if this game is a result the draw may well move out!

Anyone got any pitch info?

Jadeja is in fact a really fantastic batsman. I can't think that this will be a spinner's pitch

Last count game here Hamps made 399 2nd Innings, game before that (draw) Yorkie made 350 1st innings and Hamps followed with 443....I cant be bothered to go back further but it shows you can make large(ish) run totals here and the sun has got its hat on.

£200 matched at 7s on draw.... Excited

Took back that at 6.8 ...new orders in at 7.2...7.4... & 7.8  no ruinous collapses when the sun has got its hat on.

I don't mind backing the draw at 7s, even if there is an early collapse you can often recover.
If it's 3/4s you may never see it again.
Best scenario for draw backers is India (2nd favs) win the toss and bat well. That always weighs on the draw more so than the favourite.
