The number of times I get caught out by wickets when I try to trade draw price blips is unbelievable - got me with the 4th wicket earlier after price got right down to low 5s then back to 6s.  Course it's so much riskier second innings anyway but this is such a good track, very hard not to.

Not quite that bad, is it?  Woakes can bat so a bit of a partnership from this pair and then some rain without another wicket down and there will be a good run on the draw.  I've not backed it after the Root wicket though.  Should have done, mind, as it's already down to 11s from 13s.

Been so reliant on the lower order that we normally wouldn't give this up but without Stokes this is done

We've still got quite decent lower order batting with Stokes missing but it's essentially the difference between having our third or fourth best batsman in the line up or a fairly dubious tailender, so it's a massive, massive loss and no mistake.  Let's hope it makes Ali, Bairstow and Woakes stand up.

It's not like this game hasn't given you quite a few chances to lay the draw at favourable prices.

Actually, that draw price of 13 after Root out was huge, wasn't it?  Not that I think it should have fallen so much but would have been a very nice trade.  Couldn't stomach doing all my residual green on it though.

Hate to be critical and he's a wonderful batsman but it was a poor bit of technique.

Yes but Swann is actually correct.  It's just a counsel of despair saying effectively that they're young players in test matches so can't be expected to bat well. I'm sympathetic and it's not their fault they're not great test players but doesn't make Swann wrong.

logic or impulse battle is continous and a check system is required....the quick brain is often the instinct part of you, which is the impulse side also...

you need to get slower, be more decisive when the slow logic brain is in motion..

System 1 v system 2 or betting heuristics.  Even when you know your faults though, they can be extremely hard to master.

I decided I would effectively lay the draw for about a grand of exposure at the start of every test match and then ignore that and bet like I was in a flat position, so that I was effectively always going to win more on results.  I've essentially never followed my own, very sensible, advice since though.
