Draw shortened to 4.1. Anyone started trading it yet?

Not touched it yet. Think it's 3 draws from 15 tests going back to 2007. Haven't looked at them all but the one from a couple of years ago against SA only saw a day's play. That was in October, apparently a dryer month than August so does sound like there could easily be significant rain disruption from that and that it rains 20 days in August, averaging 300mm rain the month. Course it could predominantly be in non cricketing hours.

Aus very short, I'd say. Am thinking I'll lay Aus if I can catch them very short and trade the draw.
Report pxb August 21, 2017 11:04 PM BST
I've traded a fair bit already. Mirpur is a result venue when it doesn't rain. Last match was over in 3 days. Late monsoon weather. Usually not continuous rain.
Report Fatslogger August 22, 2017 10:09 AM BST
It was a bit of a minefield last test against England and the Bangla second innings ran on well past expectation, setting up their historic win. I've laid the draw although at the wrong price as things stand. Agree draw unlikely without a lot of rain and that a huge amount seems unlikely. Bit spooked by the SA test though.
Report Foinavon August 22, 2017 11:21 PM BST
I've laid the draw although at the wrong price as things stand.

Me too, but well within my comfort zone.

Only getting a hiding if there's a lot of rain so I'm not particularly worried and haven't done it for loads. Did try to get some 3.5 but missed that. Could be enough first innings runs to keep the draw price right down even if it stays dry but the wicket is likely to deteriorate quite fast. It's not impossible the Aus batsmen could dig in on a Bunsen but unlikely and the Bangladesh batsmen mostly bat like millionaires so probably a game to get your draw lays in pre test and on days 1 and maybe 2.

Report Foinavon August 23, 2017 11:42 AM BST
I didn't bother laying more at the lower prices and looked this morning and see I'm marginally in the black Grin. I'm treating this pre-match draw lay as a "plug and chug" bet, nothing more needed until collection time. Of course the weather could upset that as always but seems unlikely to.
Report pxb August 23, 2017 9:47 PM BST
I laid the draw down to 3.55, and have covered most of it now.

I expect some rain, and draw should be good for trading. Ban might prepare a road to neuter the Aus pace bowling.
Report mafeking August 23, 2017 10:36 PM BST
surely they'd fancy their spinners against the ropey oz batting line up ? not much to fear after warner and smith
Report Fatslogger August 23, 2017 11:37 PM BST
You'd assume they'd want the same pitch they had against England. Whether they'll get it, exactly, is a different question.
Report pxb August 26, 2017 12:44 AM BST
Both sides talking up their spinners chances. Lyon says Agar much improved. Probably not a match where you'd want to bat last.

Aus has drifted quite a bit. Hopefully they win the toss and bat.

Not sure if this can be viewed anywhere?
Report Foinavon August 26, 2017 10:50 AM BST
Hopefully they win the toss and bat.

That's about the only thing to justify such a short price. Could it be a worthwhile punt on the toss?

Am on holiday again so not much time to get bets on and also post about them but have had a massive day in this game: had got an Aus lay at 1.6 and a bunch of draw lays from 4.1 all the way down to 3.2. Can't believe it was at 2.5! Anyway, also profitably traded the draw, lucky with the rain and have £800 Aus and 3.2k Bangla green. Not even that red on the draw.
Report Foinavon August 27, 2017 5:44 PM BST
Decided to cash out my pre-match draw lay on the principle of not looking a gift horse in the mouth. (Thanks Australia).
Will have another look at stumps tomorrow.
Report pxb August 27, 2017 7:38 PM BST
I've done OK, but should have done better with the crazy draw prices. That's what happens when you are a bit behind the 8 ball in the other Test. Should still be some weather opportunities. And Smith might get a big one and turn the match. Although I think probably not.
Report ada August 27, 2017 11:52 PM BST
Aus were around 2 before the game and went to 2.3ish after they were batting first. If you had bet Aus at 2.3 and now look and see they are 18/3 on a turner after the home team had got a solid score you would surely think they are in a worse postion then they were when they started. Think I have to Lay Aus as even if they get 40 run lead and go 1.5 they surely have a big ask batting last plus any rain would help the drift
Report mafeking August 28, 2017 12:05 AM BST
take out the 1-2 loss in india which is probably an outlier they've lost something like 10 tests in a row in the subcontinent

not much evidence to suggest really that they are anything other than a shocking side when the ball does anything whether spinning or movement off the seam

Report ada August 28, 2017 1:07 PM BST
So Aus in a still bad position here, if you had backed them after the Toss at 2.3 you surely would happily red out now. I woke up looked at the scores and thought even if there is a bit of rain they really don't need many overs for a result here so I guessed Bang would be around 1.3. Seeing them at 1.7 I think I must have missed something but batting last will be hard and have topped up on Bangladesh again.

Bang runs predicted at 230 if that is the case then Aus are 15.8 to get the highest score of the test in the final innings around 270.
Report Fatslogger August 28, 2017 5:06 PM BST
Bang over priced all along, for me. I didn't do any trading today until a tiny tickle on the draw near the end. Aus obviously could win this but seems like a chase of 200 would be a tough one (although the market won't think so), let alone a more likely 250 or so.

Hi pxb.

Good to see the Bangers bossing this.
Report detraveller August 29, 2017 7:24 AM BST
Bangla could easily collapse and give aus 200-220 to chase which is why they might be 1.45. Otherwise I can't see how Australia can chase what they are about to be set.
Report VardonVoo. August 29, 2017 7:43 AM BST
Draw has been very tradeable since yesterday. One of those "volatile third outcome" matches where the two likely outcomes move steadily whilst the third is all over the shop.

I've asked myself the same question. Second choice spinner. Probably not. But a much better bat than Lyon.

Will you be staying up for the Windies chase (assuming thy survive beyond lunch)?
Report pxb August 29, 2017 8:38 AM BST
Probably not. Although I'd like to. I enjoy a tense last day chase with all 3 outcomes possible.
Report VardonVoo. August 29, 2017 8:48 AM BST
That dodgy no-ball decision yesterday probably ruined WI's chances. A more reachable target would make this a better fifth day. If they lose a couple of wickets early they'll probably just dig in for a draw or collapse trying to block it  out. Mind you if that no-ball had gone the other way they could easily have been put in earlier and be four down by now anyway!
Report detraveller August 29, 2017 10:35 AM BST
Aus look like they will take the usual 'take the game to the opposition' approach to hide their weaknesses against spin. With the target not that big they might even pull it off

What do you mean the market is so ahead Trainy?

what i mean is the market cancels all the money out the market when there is a wicket, where are they getting the data from is it a data source or radio?
Report tyco161 August 30, 2017 1:12 AM BST
It could just be that you have slow pics? Or people just listening on analogue radio... pretty much the same speed as being at the ground if you can trust the commentator... :)
Report VardonVoo. August 30, 2017 1:30 AM BST
Trainy - your bets are set to have a five-second delay anyway, even if you had a real-time feed. This is to give punters with a slightly delayed feed enough time to cancel bets before people sitting at the stadium with a laptop can take advantage of them. Any bets still left up will just get hoovered, even if it's only a handful of people at the venue, so the market is nearly always in synch with the action. What you need is a premium account, then just go to "settings" and change the delay from plus five seconds to minus five. You'll still have to beat their reaction times, but at least it gives you a slight edge over people watching the live action who have no delay in force when they cancel their bets.

Excellent test for me, although even this and a few other decent efforts this week haven't remotely recovered my recent losses. Had the Bangles all along and kept waking up to find their position improved while I slept, even on day 1 where 50/3 or something looked okay as a getting up score given they'd won the toss. Took a tiny fraction of my green off backing Aus from 8 down at the end (glad I didn't put some on at 3 before Maxwell out, which I did think of). I got a nibble of 15s before Lyon hit a 4 first ball and then had to take 9s but still won £3k.

Oh yeah sorry - forgot we're all keeping schtumm.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make was that maybe with the right hack into the software the guy could change the delay from +5 seconds to minus 5 seconds, so he could have a chance at beating the spectators armed with laptops at the event itself.

Good to see Aus following 4th innings protocol.

Rule Number 1: look like you might win.
Rule Number 2: fall in a heap
Rule Number 3: rally
Rule Number 4: lose.

This has been the pattern for nearly all of test match history, which makes Windies' triumph so special.
