Don't get these prices at all, make absolutely no sense. SA are pretty much the same price as just before the toss in the last game.Since then they have thrashed England and have Rabada back. Bizarre really. There is a bit of rain in the forecast but all looks to be nominal in the grand scale of things. Should be able to make up the time during the five days. Still plenty of light at this time of the year & floodlights are available.

Rain day 1 probably suits the bowling side and as you say, doesn't change the number of overs available.

I've slightly messed this up, in that I took on some draw lays a fraction higher than most of my backs as I bought the notion that it could easily head up to near 5. Now I would really rather like it to.

Hardly any rain forecast now. Day 1 showers are insignificant in my eyes
Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon all clear

Today has rain for Surrey, hopefully the pitch stays under the covers most of the day

Surprised the draw is sticking so low. I've seen these sides bowl and I've seen them bat and I just don't see a draw. Days 2 and 3 could be good for batting but day 1 probably won't be so draw lay to back to lay again feels like the approach. As it turns out, I'd got a draw back in at 4.8 at some point so my average lay is a little lower than my average back which emboldens me to try for further lays around 4.2 and await developments.

Anyone remember the last draw in England that wasn't heavily rain affected? The last draw was Lord's against Sri Lanka (a test I traded like a gimboid and lost £5k on, I think) but that was moderately rain affected even before the final day was a near wash out. None of the other tests in 2016 were draws and 2015 went WLWLWWL. I think one of the Sri Lanka and one of the India tests in 2014 were non rain affected draws.

I was looking forward to this series and thought SA to be a very good side albeit without AB. I was shocked by  their surrender in the first Test and also shocked by the bouncebackability win in the second without Rabada!

I think SA may well be the better side and expect them to play well tomorrow. I don't know how to bet on this. Will wait for the toss and see I think.

I am at The Oval tomorrow! There may be a spare single ticket available if anybody is interested although not sitting with me!

I am in Bedser Upper Open if anybody is there tomorrow and would like to meet.

think it's something like 1 of the last 20 tests in england has been drawn. hardly any recent game has reached day 5. this england team doesn't do draws.  they usually win one then lose one generally by massive margins

Thanks Juce,

Looking forward to it.

100th Test Match at the Oval so I booked first day tickets! Was hoping for a ceremony and a procession of some sort!

Not going to get hammered! Was at Lords for 4th day. Knocked back a few pints early but was so engrossed by the game that I did not drink anymore during the day including the wine I had brought in!

Could be a cracking day Thursday with plenty of wickets. Could be a good trading day I think but that is not my style so will just watch. Missed the second Test as I was in Ireland.

I really fancy SAF for this if they win the toss. Greentop or not.

Looks like could be a significant amount of time lost Friday now. Forecast for Saturday on remains good though so would be able to make up most of a session if required.

I'm now a little over £5k draw red. My only anxiety about it is whether I've got enough.

Just want to see the wicket now, it's been under the covers most of Wednesday.
Be interesting to see how much grass they leave on.
Then it looks like it is going to be a volatile market with the showers and the rain on Friday.Grin
Could be one of the test matches where you have to stay focused for the whole game & opportunities/value will present themselves.

The Met Office Fri forecast looks OK to me. A couple of light showers, and nothing heavier till perhaps 5pm.

The draw at 4 an over-reaction IMO.

Agree, as I posted yesterday, a session lost on Friday evening can me made up on the remaining days.
Still a 450 over game for mine (based on current forecasts).

If they uncover the wicket and it's green and juicy the draw will fly.

Cric365 suggested win toss and bowl might be the way to go. Although I always feel that is risky.

What was it like to be at The Oval the day India won their first series in England? For a 13-year-old English fan, it was bliss to be alive

Funny enough this was the first proper Test Match I remember and have always had a soft spot for India after this game at the Oval! I remember the sheer joy from nearly everybody that India won. It struck me as so different to Football. I duess that is one of the reason's I love cricket!

In a pub just up the Clapham Road from the ground, we sat outside under a darkening sky among a group of West Indians and Len bought me my first beer. A whole pint of pale ale, in a dimpled glass jug. "If anyone asks, tell 'em it's a shandy." As I fought back the urge to spit my first sip straight back into the glass, Harold handed me a brown paper bag containing a copy of a hardback volume, Great Cricket Matches by Handasyde Buchanan. "Something to remember your first Test match by." I have never forgotten it, and on the train home as I read from my new book ("It's second-hand, but mint condition"), despite the slight nausea brought on by the pale ale, I thought that all in all, Tuesday August 24th, 1971 had been probably the best day of my life.

Forecast now for showers today, quite a bit of afternoon rain tomorrow and maybe a shower or two Saturday too. Still think it won't end up being much time lost but could certainly have a few overs go down the drain. Not that I think that will prevent a result and cloud overhead will assist the bowling enough that I may not look for so many draw backs as I'd otherwise have wanted. Will take another large draw lay a true 3.9 if it gets down that far.

Few showers about today but they could easily miss. Nothing biblical on the horizon which is the main thing
