i would like to know if any stats exist
since the inception of 'technology'
in respect of how right or wrong umpires have been % wise
and how many of their 'decisions' have been overturned upon review
at the end of the day
maybe we should just go back to how things were
imho i don't think there are sufficient egregiously incorrect decisions
to really warrant it's existence

no, the method is valid, because you only falsify the null hypothesis (the umpire's on field decision) when you have data from the 3rd ump that allows you to nullify the decision with the appropriate level of confidence.

I understand, but they often overturn on field ump's decisions with no data/confidence whatsoever.

pd - the point about DRS is its purpose is not to DECIDE the outcome, it's about proving that the umpire was wrong with the decision that they made (i.e. falsify the on field decision).

it's what so many commentators fail to understand. they think DRS is about deciding the outcome, when it isn't.

when you review you are not asking the on-field umpire to delegate the decision to technology. You are actually saying: We, as a side, are VERY confident you got that decision wrong and believe that technology will provide OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE that you did.

it's why sides SHOULD lose a review when it's umpire's call. Because they are wrong. There wasn't overwhelming evidence.

With these catches, the on field umpire should have no sort of say, yes they are the closest to the action, but that was one of those where you couldn't of possibly made a definite yes or no.

and i'm not saying it's right, it's just the way it's been designed.

the problem with letting technology decide without having any say from the on field umpires is that you may as well just do away with the on-field umpires.

One question that the whole forum wants to know the answer to from Dstyle.
Does the D stand for Doggy?

Miscalled this: got on the draw at 4.1 thinking it would head back down to the earlier silly prices and it's just stayed static so I've been exposed to risk for no real return. I don't think it should drop but I'm still surprised it hasn't.
