Premature declarations and innings forfeitures in the Hamps v Yorks game this morning.
The betting graph makes interesting reading.

hardly unforeseen. hants had to try and force a result to give themselves a realistic chance going into next week

Yorkshire could have easily batted out the day if they wanted. They've helped Hampshire big time. Hung Sussex and Somerset out to dry.

they will of course say they wanted to win the game.

I think Jack Leaning must have been one who was heavy on the draw last night and had no inkling of what the captains would do.

Given that they're going to win the game, it's a very good reason. People should have expected this

How much had been matched on the draw prior to the double declaration

don't get me wrong as a zum fan i was furious to see yorkshire give hampshire such a generous deal. they could have asked for virtually anything given they had nothing on the game. say 5 overs of donkey drops and then a double forfeiture with yorkshire chasing 250 in 85-90 overs

point is there was always likely to be some sort of game set up. foolish to be on the draw at long odds on

Yes but Hants wouldn't have accepted an easy chase as risking more bowling plus the draw points so had more of a negotiating position than people have implied. If Yorks has said we'll chase 250 in 80 overs the answer would have been no thanks.
