After the first match when my ring went for some strange reason while Aussie were chasing 450 odd in the fourth innings and were close to evens and I didn't hammer the b'jesus out of it I resolved to overcome my fears of other peoples irrational fears and back my judgement.
I am pleased to report I managed to do this but still managed to cook it up somewhat.
At 15.01 Aus were still 4's so I thought I would attack it so I layed some and got 3.80. Still in shock I bought or rather layed some more at 3.60 at 15.04pm. Within a few minutes they went sub 3 and I though WTF but still remained intact in the nether regions and bought or rather layed some more at 2.98 at 15.12pm.
At this point I had to go to the gymnasium so left some floating lay of 2.4 which got taken at 15.28pm. I went to the gym and heard a wicket on the radio but the price was still 3.20 something so I tried to lay some more but got locked out.
Can anyone explain wtf happened and how Aussie dropped from 4 to 2.4 in minutes? it was weird. They were still 100 odd behind. Incredible!

if in your view the odds of how you perceive/gut feel things will pan out are wrong/egregiously generous you have to fill your boots
if they are too skinny i.e. ppl are of the same persuasion i tend to have less on as even tho' the contingency is likely to unfurl in your favour the odds are unrepresentative

yes agrred. I think sometimes though you can just see an open goal and during the first test I just could not understand why Aus got close to evens chasing 450 and it freaked me out so I left it. Just sometimes in life though when it walks like and duck and looks like a duck it is a duck and today for me was one of those days
We should be able to take 3 more wickets on this pitch but can we take 20 in the next match without Jimmy Anderson?
that would depend entirely on what type of wicket Strauss tells Nottinghamshire to produce.
What makes it worse is that the Pommies are a dreadful side and at the moment it looks like the world rankings are upside down. I would drop Clarke, Voges and Marsh. Make Smith the captain and get Khawaja in. If you carry on doing the same things we will be beat but Clarke has done nothing for the side this series and that is unacceptable for a player of his calibre. It's harsh but he he can't buy a run and his technique looks dreadful.
Dreadful? Then this Oz side is utter sh*te. Any Ashes series exposes weak links & atm there appear to be far more in the Oz side (Voges, Marsh, Starc...) compared to England (Lyth).
Clarke's having a bad trot but is a class player. Neville is still finding his feet but looks like he has a bit of backbone. Bairstow needs to be given a few more tests before condemning him. As a bowling unit Eng look much stronger on pitches offering some assistance. As for the batting, both top orders look brittle.

Both teams are very poor in the batting department, if you think Lyth is England's only weak point you haven't been watching. Clarke is gone, his back is not allowing him to move his feet the way he once did. He will retain his position because he is captain and Marsh will need to replace Voges. Australia will have their fingers crossed that Barstow sees out the series. Australia's bowling this test has been very poor, Starc needs to make way, his spells before lunch yesterday was appalling at best. England show us how to bowl on a seaming wicket and it wasn't making the batsman play at one in ten balls. As a lover of test cricket this series has been hard to watch.

I'll make a small and thoroughly undeserved profit on this. Got it completely wrong, and saved by Finn, who I must say I rated and wondered why he wasn't in the Eng team.
Agree that Clarke has to go, but I've thought that for a while. But I doubt it will happen before the next Test.

Clarke just looks so uncomfortable at the crease.
There's time when, as a batsmen, you have tough times - you get a few jaffa's, someone pulls off a miracle catch etc.
But he looks genuinely shot to bits. As uncomfortable as Lyth, if not worse.

What did you not understand Johnny. The rankings don't lie, i.e Australia are rated a far better side than the Pomms in all forms of cricket at this time and yet the performance this series looks like it should be the other way around. England are a poor side as the rankings suggest but we have looked even worse. God how we need a Steve Waugh now.
@Try my best. There are no outstanding teams in test cricket right now. Most teams lack in players of true test match quality, especially with all the retirements in the last few years. Players are generally flourishing in home conditions making teams look good in a home test match series. The lack of quality, adaptability and general metal frailties however make them all pretty awful away.

The fact that Bangladesh are proving to be a tough nut to crack at home and a slighlty above average New Zealand side can man for man give any other test team a run for its money should tell you all you need to know about Test cricket right now. If New Zealand had Vettori and Ryder available they would probably be the strongest Test team out there right now.

england should just about prevail.....think the shorter versions of cricket are ruining test cricket...gone are the days when a player could bat for a couple of days..now its a couple of hours.

Nah the only times Eng have a mega wobble is against spin. Aus are devoid of spin so we should be ok up to 200.

This is not the sort of game to go balls deep on short odds. The Ashes throws up some Herculean efforts on both sides

Should have laid Aus for more than I did as the price shortened. Remote chance Eng lose this on a flat day 3 wicket.

Every time they have shown a replay of a delivery by Lyon it looks like a no ball to me. He bowls with his toe on the ground and his heel in the air. I thought that some part of the foot had to be grounded behind the crease? I am also wondering if the game would have been any different if Adam Lythe had been sitting on the boundary. He did take one good catch but otherwise complete waste of space.

Clarke by his comments has himself already selected himself for the next test. As he has said himself we are playing with 10 men at the moment and that's on the generous side. If he wasn't captain his place would be in peril. I for one would drop him he's been that bad. Bad batting, bad captaincy and the one he put down today was horrendous and I'm a great fan of his. Enough is enough and it's a time for a change.
MAssive call to drop a captain mid way through an Ashes. It simply won't happen.
