the result is a bonus. i would have settled for a draw.

this was good positive cricket from england, the first legitimate century cook has scored in about 3 years, Stokes was a revelation, Root outstanding, Broad bowled quickly and Wood gives us some real variation and pace.

it's very encouraging

England were 30-4 and had to play fantastic cricket to win by a wide margin of 124 runs

you must be a footy fan, as you want everything done in 5 minutes and you have the English t20 in action at the moment, abeit cold weather and the players aren't as good as the IPL, but i have actually watched a game being arranged over there.

i think all three formats can co-exist, but t20 will always be a short story to a test match's novel.

that's not to say that there aren't some **** boring long novels that go nowhere and some outstanding short stories, but no short story is better than a great novel.

and as for the IPL it is largely dragged down by the awfulness of the second tier indian cricketers.

it reminds me of that first arena scene in gladiator where there are some fighters going into the ring and some absolute no-hopers. it's almost as though their sh1t fielding and bowling is provided as fodder for the marauding batsmen and is a deliberate ploy to entertain.

the big bash is much much better from a cricketing standpoint.

absolutely outstanding last 2 days from england

have the makings of a very good side in test cricket. obviously the next 6 months will be extremely testing given the schedule with half the side still pretty inexperienced at this level. bound to be ups and downs

woah woah dont get too far ahead of urself, england are still an average team with a powder puff attack, wont be getting 20 wickets against aus with those bowlers

The spin dept remains a concern. Rashid would get plenty from the rough to both right and left handers. Root on a par with Moeen imo.

Apart from that, business as usual for England at home.

wd those who backed England. I backed the draw yesterday when England reached 200 for 3 but then baled out later in the day so nothing lost and enjoyed seeing England win.

England 13/8 with Sky to win one day series looks like a cracking value bet.

Looks poor valu to me, as England, even in England are a poor 1 day side, but with a new coach, I suppose it might change.
