I expect England to be too short again for most of the match.
Only 2 Tests played at this venue, neither of which tell us much, but I expect plenty of runs. Which makes a draw back to lay the way I'll start.

Gee its hard to know what to take from that last 1st Class match. Spinners took 9 of the 10 first inns wickets. And the seamers bowled for the first 9 overs in total in the inns. Match seemed to steady, but the class Batsman got a ton. Mmmm more confused than ever, wait for the toss!
West Indies are the new Pakistan for me just in the case of WI there is no point in paying a bribe because they are likely to capitulate without pecuniary inducement.
I would like to have a look at the pitch first. They paid plenty of dough to get this test so will want the wicket to last 5 days but if they have taken the grass of the question is will it dry out.
The only other question is will England have the bottle to try Rashid? I think not!

after a slow start around 2 runs an over samuels picks the rate up at the end of the day

Ali was turning it yesterday & the bowlers' marks are already apparent. The hardest thing to gauge is how quick it will turn. Seems a pretty slow pitch tbf

Boycott absolutely slated the pitch and the groundsmen.
I get the feeling the MO from the WI cricket board is two fold. Make sure the game lasts 5 days & make sure WI don't get hammered. Just like Bangladesh, I think WI feel a draw is like a win.
I started off laying the draw yesterday at 2.6 & then flipped it over when the draw came down from 4.1 to 3.8 (as the inns stabilised). Therefore sitting on a large draw green & zero on Eng/WI. Feels like another long haul to me. WI bowling without Taylor looks pretty toothless. I've seen Gabriel bowl a few times and have been underwhelmed. Roach is down on pace & Holder is steady. Bishoo will probably be negated by the slowness of the pitch.
I expect England to get a sizeable total and then winkle them out slowly but surely.

There was quite a bit of swing for Anderson with the first new ball. However, the conditions were hot and humid. Who know what it will do today.
It seems cloud cover, not humidity helps swing.

gonna be a real struggle to get a result if they're losing 15 or 20 overs a day

Well I'm out of the market at the moment having backed the draw then layed the draw several times for a net profit of 65 pence

I'm impressed with Stokes and Jordan's pace with such an old ball.

Just had a little tactical lay of the draw now that the price has shrunk due to the rain. Hopefully England might have some success with the new ball and cause the draw to go out.
even if england knock them over for 300 they'll do well to be level by end of day 3 with all these interruptions. probably gonna need a need a session with 4 or 5 wickets at some stage for england to get over the line here
Well we just don't know. A couple of quick wickets when play resumes and things will look different. Still doubt that either side can pull off a win and hope to be on the right side of the draw before the fat lady sings.
This last wicket pair showing why it's difficult (or unwise) to back England to win anything at the moment.
Just unwise to think England are ever going to win another Test, the way we are at the moment and won't be surprised if we are about 60-4, by the end of play today.

Not in any hurry to take a position again. All outcomes are possible and wouldn't be inclined to back England at odds-on this early in the game. From here, England should be able to build a commanding first innings lead but I don't trust them enough either to get a sufficient lead or bowl out WI a second time. Have a small over-all green at the moment and will sit on it for now.
Fortunately, I kept the draw onside.

Back on England today, weather seems set fair & WI are not looking particularly potent. Hoping to see around 1.6 by the end of the day

Wish they would get a move on. 2.4 an over v West Indies with no wickets down? I know it's only the 3rd day but surely get up to at least 3 an over.
i know it's pretty dreadful to watch at the moment but a lot of england's success in 2010 and 2011 came on the back of partnerships like this between cook and trott and then the stroke makers tucking in knackered bowlers with an old ball. plenty of time to score at much higher rate later on

really should have 500 by lunch tomorrow. you'd hope that the likes of bell, stokes and buttler will be scoring at more like 4 an over later on with the platform provided and given we could be something like 350/5 at the close at 6 and 7 an over tomorrow morning before a likely declaration

Time to hammer home the advantage and push up to 450 - 500 and declare around lunch time tomorrow. Leave plenty of time to take 10 wickets.
Ya everyone saying the pitch is only going to deteriorate. Weather could always intervene, that's why I'd declare early at around 500 maybe 525 tops at just after lunch.
don't see pitch deteriorating, just think Eng will bowl better and WI will be demoralised by the time they come to bat.
4 down. Nice innings from Root, at least he's still there. He's made 86 from 112, just what was needed as the top order were on go slow mode.
How to make a simple task difficult . Last few overs show exactly why England are just an ordinary team . Lapses of concentration ? --no , just poor batting . There were nearly 2 runouts when there was no pressure .

promising start from an England point of view, should not be worried by losing wickets in this situation. think if weather stays fair eng will win.
Bravo due a score. I am taking a small punt on that happening as I like a gamble at times. Samuels has done his bit in this match and we can't expect him not to give his wicket away although one can hope he wants to teach Stokes more and the lesson is not over but I doubt it. Shiv unfortunately is a shadow of himself so for me all rests on Bravo. If he gets a hundred he can save the game. A late innings century from someone is unlikely to save the game for Windies.

I'd say dropping a catch was far more of a mistake than utterly sh*t running.

thought that was wrong mocking the fielders when a dropped catch, England players in the main just spout against each other, has been a culture for too long imo, the management need to tell them to keep the mouths closed as a team game at the highest level !!!

As I stated on the 1st Test thread, neither side know how to win and yet again, that is whats going to happen here, not that the Windies have any chance anyway.

No in all fairness, plenty of overs left as long as the weather stays firm.
Should be a doddle. I think England will win by 6 or 7 wickets. Just take no chances, take the singles and score off the bad balls. And don't get yourselves run out.

Massive green at the start of the day. I had it in my mind not to bet and then I started trying to find a partnership! Ended up getting my pants taken down & a miniscule win
