as for the final, it depends on the conditions. NZ have a better bowling attack when the conditions are suited to a bit of a movement in the air, and Australia's aggression can add to their effectiveness.

Australia's bowlers are better if its not doing much, their batting is better too.

Cloudy and humid Melbourne and NZ are even money. Warm and dry, Aus 1.4.

1.55 looks a big gamble given the vagaries of Melbourne's weather.

Would take Southee and Boult over both Aus new ball attack every day of the week in this format.  Vettori better than any spinner Aus have.
Report DStyle March 26, 2015 9:41 AM GMT
NZ have looked better because of where they've played these matches.

I maintain that the exceptional element of this Australian side, given they have no front line spinner, is how good they are on good wickets in good conditions. Starc's full bowling and swing, hazlewood's nibble, and Johnson pace and bounce make them a massive handful.

Whilst the small mouthed butch lesbian Trent Boult is effective in most conditions, and Henry bowled well the other night, Southee is fodder if it's not doing anything.

I can't trust NZ to rock up over the Tasman and beat Aus. However, I think the toss will be important as Melbourne has been tricky under lights
Report BJT March 26, 2015 9:47 AM GMT
NZ definitely a good opponent.  Just can't see them winning more than about 1 in 3.  Biggest stage any of them have played on, and this is old hat for Aus.  Win every second world cup, so just another game.

Will be very happy for them if they win it though.  Very exciting team on their day, and they play the game the right way.  Nothing better than an aggressive team that takes the game on and sees what happens.

yep. this world cup has been sh1t.

NZ/SA, Eng/Bang, NZ/Aus and WI/Ire have been the only decent matches featuring a top 8 side.

there have been about 5 or 6 decent matches between two associate sides, thank god.
Report Only-the-Brave March 26, 2015 9:50 AM GMT
Fair point about the aus experience and I do tend to agree.  However the way this NZ side has played (led by McCullum) has been with no fear - very important mindset against a side as intimidating as Aus.  If he leads from the front and can set the tone, NZ have every chance.  Although with the bigger ground his approach could well work against him.  2 best sides made the final though so let's hope they can finish the tournament with a good game.

Agree with DStyle, been a pretty boring world cup.  These monster scores due to the rule changes etc do nothing for the game by way of entertainment.

Absolutely.

2 teams that play similar games, and has the potential to be epic.  The SA/NZ game was brilliant, and hopefully we get something similar in the final.  Assuming of course Aus win this.  Otherwise, NZ will slaughter India in the final.

Bit risky here bowling the last couple of Johnson overs.  Only 2 left for him.  5 for Starc.  8 of the last 15 to be bowled by the lesser bowlers.  Not going to happen, but if India get through the pp with some momentum/no wickets down then Aus could get nervy.  Hope for the game's sake that it's not a wicket-taking power play.

Lesser bowlers maybe, but Watson pretty tight "lesser" bowler.

India still a big show here.  SA averaged 12 an over in the last 15 overs for the tourny.  Different prop here, but 6 wickets in hand, either of those can go big.  Wouldn't be lumping on Aus here, pretty happy just watching now really.  Happy to miss the start of something happening, rather than predicting it.

Report Charkitz March 26, 2015 2:09 PM GMT
As far as I was concerned, anything above 1.3 was an absolute gift given Australia's record against India in Oz

New Zealand, well that's a completely different story, Kiwis very rarely play in Oz and the last time they did they had a completely different team, so not much of a formline to go by.

Anything could happen imo, will be a case of wait and see how the game's panning out before making any plays for me
Report Wildone March 26, 2015 2:10 PM GMT
Aust NZ match is the sort of match I would beat on if it suit me anyway.

The fact it is a final and I have carry over just makes it a bonus.

I am far more comfortable with Aust v NZ at the MCG than Aust v India at the SCG whether I am right or wrong on that one.

I am also glad Aust v NZ rather than Aust v SA.

NZ can cause an upset, no doubt, but Aust looking very strong, focused and determined atm

Can't say I am not disappointed!

Smith was quite the Magister! Always a joy to watch him bat!

I genuinely thought India had at least a sniff of a chance to get 300. I would have liked for them to bat first. This pitch was a great equaliser and offered them the best chance but they didn't take it. Winning the toss would have brought India closer.

All said and done I suggested from the off Aus were the best side and SA second. I think NZ have been extremely lucky, advantaged also playing at home. Injuries to Phillander and Steyn, poor bowling the Competition by SA as a result. The weather in the semi also bailed them out but they have been a revalation to me. I have been watching them closely at test level for a couple of years and have noticed their improvement. I believe they have been marshalled brilliantly by MugCullum ( absolutely no mug! ). They have performed magnificently as a team and thoroughly deserve their place in the Final ( luck is earned! ).

I hope for a good clean fight and as long as NZ win I shall be a happy manLaugh.

I favour Australia to win as home advantge will be a big help. NZ have played all of their games in NZ and will need to adjust to Australian conditions. But, it is going to be a hard fought match and the odds are a disgrace, nearer to 8/15 - 4/7 for Australia would be closer to reality.
Report Wildone March 26, 2015 7:46 PM GMT
