Only 1 draw in the last 20 years and that was India, who racked up a massive 705 first innings in 2004, then 211/2d 2nd inn.

But a fair amount of rain in the forecast.

Rain prospects and a decent batting performance by whoever bats 1st should bring the draw in. so a draw back to lay for me.

30 minutes left til tea?  33 overs to close out play in the last session.  30 runs here, 8 wickets in hand to get 190 in 33 overs.  Aus got 6/251 in 40 overs.  Tough, but dancing up the pitch to the spin, things could happen.
Report Whisperingdeath January 10, 2015 3:42 AM GMT

How are India ahead of Australia when it comes to winning the match?

They have to score another 189 runs in 33 overs on a day 5 pitch which is doing quite a bit, i'm happy they'll get out trying to do that

should be a great last session
Report jajabink January 10, 2015 4:16 AM GMT
33 overs left, 5.7 a over to win so 189 from 198 balls, possible i suppose
Report YOMOMMA January 10, 2015 4:16 AM GMT
5.7 an over for 33 overs with 8 wickets. that's possible. they showed the intent is there by scoring a few in the overs just before tea.

Report jajabink January 10, 2015 4:24 AM GMT
with 189 needed. Around 33 overs to go. Close to run a ball. Will they go for it? The same pair was batting at tea in Adelaide, where India needed 159 in the last session. They did go for it there, and went down in the process. - from cricinfo , very exciting final session me thinks, india have nothing to lose
Report YOMOMMA January 10, 2015 4:26 AM GMT
of course they will go for it. how often do they have the chance to win a test match in australia. they only have this opportunity because aus let them back in the game.

LaughLaugh India haven't been in a position to win a game all series, the only time they have is when Australia have made a declaration to set it up for them

Report BJT January 10, 2015 4:30 AM GMT
Not a lock, but likely they have a go.  Have enough wickets in hand to shut up shop if need be and try and hold on.  I suspect they have bankers that they will want to stay out there, so if one of these 2 go out, then the ones coming in are the ones trying to score.

I think they have very little chance of getting it done, but that is irrelevant.  Only thing that matters here is their intent.  They show intent, then game on.  Lay draw comes right into play.
Report BJT January 10, 2015 4:31 AM GMT
No radar expert, but looks unlikely to rain in the next 33 overs.

Report BJT January 10, 2015 4:34 AM GMT

Is the light that bad, that they will stop straight after the minimum?
Report BJT January 10, 2015 6:19 AM GMT
Only 12 minutes left isn't there?  Then use up the 30 to get the overs.  Minimum will run over time, so should have nothing to do with the light.
Report Welshie5121 January 10, 2015 6:19 AM GMT
ah right I get you, cheers.
Report jajabink January 10, 2015 6:26 AM GMT
there was 33 overs left in the final session so 7 left
Report BJT January 10, 2015 6:30 AM GMT
There was minimum 33 overs.  But you have your time you are supposed to get them in, and 30 minutes longer if need be.  If they started with 90 overs, and bowled 2 spinners all day, no reason they couldn't have bowled 110 overs today.  That 6 overs remaining is the minimum, which was the point, just that due to the time, the minimum should also be the maximum.

Don't feel Smith will shake hands today.

we need to find a replacement for Watson, his bowling is handy but we need a #3 who can score 100's

Shaun Marsh won't hold his spot I don't think, Joe Burns did very well in this game and didn't bat for himself but did the team thing which you have to respect
Report Whisperingdeath January 10, 2015 3:11 PM GMT
Yeah I think Falukener is the ready made replacement for Watson. He needs to improve his batting to Test match conditions but he can do it without a doubt. He needs to bat at 6 not 3. Watson at 3 was a big mistake for a long time. I think he has has his time in Test Cricket, good player but not what Aus need at 3.

Aus have plenty of young guns in the pace department just need to sort out or rather give a run to a couple of younger batsmen to see how they adapt to the Test arena.
