A high scoring ground 1st innings.

Probably the ground that will best suit India, and  they might spring a surprise here. Although their woeful away Test record would indicate otherwise.

No team News for Aus, but ? mark over Clarke's fitness.

I'll likely go into this with a red on Aus.

dstyle what you think about the aus 2nd innings declaration, you know your cricket
Report Only-the-Brave December 13, 2014 3:36 AM GMT
India have a live chance here imo.  Think it's either an India win or an Aus win - don't fancy the draw at all despite the odds.  Pujara and Vijay are the only real 'stayers' in the India lineup.  Kohli, Rahane, Rohit, and Saha - all will score relatively quickly if they do score.
Report slip5 December 13, 2014 3:37 AM GMT
india only pick up 12 wickets in 200 overs they bowled they never deserve a easy 3.5 run rate 4th innings chase, i think aussies should have put on another 50 runs in morning session and set 410 in 92 overs
Report Only-the-Brave December 13, 2014 3:40 AM GMT
Clarke's an aggressive captain though - has worked for him in the past, and may well do today.  Doubt he expected the Aus attack to look as toothless as it has though.  Considering that we are seeing turn, and also reverse, you'd expect them to be in a better position.  Long way to go mind you.

the pitch is flat for fast medium bowlers anyway, lyon got abit of spin from rough thats about it you cant be setting targets cause of the bowler foot marks
Report DStyle December 13, 2014 3:43 AM GMT
seemed fine to me.

370 runs in a day, even an extended day, is a LOT of runs particularly when the moment a side finds itself in danger they tend to shut up shop, as well as a fielding captain being able to be negative in their fields and bowling if he starts getting concerned.

95 overs also gives them a decent crack with the second new ball

agree that india could well start to threaten now - it's actually a much more positive way to avoid losing as well.good batting from these two and about 50 quick runs away from forcing out some close fielders.
Report Only-the-Brave December 13, 2014 3:44 AM GMT
Quite rate Harris myself.  Siddle is like net practice though I agree.  Lyon's record in 4th innings is terrible, and Mitch is quality but appears to be scared atm of bowling how we all know he can.  His reaction to hitting Kohli first innings and lack of bounders thereafter pretty telling.

Report racingguru December 13, 2014 7:28 AM GMT
The reality is that Australia dominated this test match. They took 20 wkts, they scored at a better run rate each innings and it was only close because Australia made a very sporting declaration. Yes Kohli played great and whilst he and Vijay were going well it looked like the declaration was too generous.

But nothing should hide the fact that Australia were by far the better team here.
Report slip5 December 13, 2014 7:37 AM GMT
thats why south africa are one of the best teams they understand the match situation and they would have played for draw when 5 wickets down
Report Charkitz December 13, 2014 8:09 AM GMT
As I said earlier, don't over-analyse, just lay Indians away from home and enjoy the carnage Happy

Although to be fair atleast they went for the win this time unlike that embarrassing effort against South Africa where they **** themselves. If this is a sign of things to come under Kohli's future captaincy then it'll be good for test cricket.
Report tyco161 December 13, 2014 8:14 AM GMT
Another example in test cricket why you never back the draw at short odds. What a great game and great humility shown by Kholi in his post game speech. Cricket was the winner all round here.

Report tyco161 December 13, 2014 8:46 AM GMT
Yeah I feel for Kholi, he must have been shattered at coming so close and especially with the hand he played himself. Just a few more runs from him and it may have been a different result.
Report pxb December 13, 2014 9:19 AM GMT
Without those 2 bad umpiring decisions, India would have won.

Unfortunately for them, Brisbane is next, where Aus have their best chance of a decisive win.

2-0 down by the end of the week I'm afraid. Then Aus will play conservatively.
Report DStyle December 13, 2014 9:32 AM GMT
vijay would have been out in the 16th over if they had drs though.

For all we say about the game and I am repeating myself after a few brews, this game epitomizes why test cricket will always be the number one game in town. For India to go from 32's to 2's and Australia to go from 20's to winning all on the last day, with all the drama, the courageousness of Kholi, the brain fade, etc, it has everything. Test match cricket for mine is here to stay.

there's no doubt it is.

very few sports can deliver the sort of payoff test cricket can, in fact, no sport really can. the problem is that many people don't want to invest the time and would rather invest a great deal less for a much weaker payoff.

but that doesn't give their claims any legitimacy.
