A few showers around mostly on Saturday, but not enough to worry about IMO. Plenty of cloudy skies though.

Trent Bridge normally a result venue but talk is, the pitch will be no green seamer.

India normally a slow starter in series and do poorly outside the subcontinent. So on the face of it the 1st Test looks to be a slam dunk for Eng.

But India have an experienced captain at the top of his game against the woeful Cook + some very good new batsmen.  Pity about Gambir.

IMO will be closer than many expect with the series going 2-1 or 2-2.

low and uneven bounce when chasing runs gets you out.  Then there is the rough for Jadeja.  I cannot see an England win but if I was huge on the draw I would be wearing my brown trousers today.

These TMS boys are getting on my nerves at the moment, gasping nearly every ball!

Morning Lara!

Max I think they will go for it as long as the pitch is not a minefield but should they lose too many early wickets chasing they will shut up shop but they have to get India out first.  They could skittle India.  It does happen but they still have to get the runs.  Once it goes past 200 it will become difficult for them to chase because Jadega can just bowl fast and low into the rough.

Ironic if Binny saves India and gets dropped for Lords!  He shouldn't have been selected for this one but maybe Lords he would have been useful.  No way Ashwin is not going to come back into the side for next match!

Jadeja quick 40 should be enough to save India's embarassment.

This is all good for the next match as it makes England look good so may be a better lay opportunity for next match!

New ball due soon.

Very unpredictable.  It call all hapen even an India win but I think it will remain a draw.  new ball might bring wickets but will also bring quicker runs and so is a double edged sword.  if they are getting reverse they can keeo the new ball in reserve.

Also we have not seen if there is any spin which is another development.  All very exciting but unpredictable.

I shall be interested to see second test odds right now.  If this is a draw it will be hard on England bowlers.

I would play Finn at Lords in place of Plunkett even though he has done little wrong. England don't need Stokes and Plunkett
Report justin time2 July 13, 2014 12:51 PM BST
As long as India can put on a 200+ lead and AT LEAST another hour and a quarter in the field then I think chances of an England win will be virtually none.

Started 11.15am, lunch 1.15pm, tea 3.55pm, can stop around 5.15pm.

Could be the worst of worlds for England - had the game been dead by now you would have seen where England were coming from had we had an afternoon of Ali and Root (even some joke bowling from Robson or Bell, as disrepectful to the crowd that would have been).
As it is, England will be duty bound to have 1 final go with the new ball (80 overs in), hence more energy spent by the pace bowlers.

Lovely image of the Nottinghamshire clock there (with what appears to be bullet holes underneath).

I laid England big on day 3 as I couldn't see any way they could win.  The last stand caught me by surprise and I very nearly hit my max loss after those 2 then 3 wickets this morning.  I've had to reduce my profit down as a 4th wicket would have meant having to red out for a 25% loss on bank.

It's comfortable now unless India lose the last 4 wickets before three o'clock but pleased with that last half hour from India.

Could have declared half an hour ago. Open with Jadeja bowling into the rough with a hard ball.

Could have had Eng 20-4 in no time.

Apart from McCullum, I have little time for these captains. There's a test to win and Dhoni would prefer to sit on his hands.

I would not give Captain Co ck a chance to bat again if I were Dhoni.  The pressure on him is reduced.  Why risk his fast bowlers?. Let **** stew, stand on the balcony look like declaring but don't.  Let hese guys bat and keep England in the field as long as possible. There is no advantage to a cheap wicket but plenty to lose if Co ck can play himself into some kind of form.  Lords is a good strip.

England 14 man squad for Lord's, Simon Kerrigan (the spinner who the Aussies bullied on his first go) is added.
Report Injera July 13, 2014 5:52 PM BST
India will murder Kerrigan.

I thought that was shocking from Dhoni and presumambly Fletcher. No wonder they don't win away. A clear opportunity to have 40 overs at England and try to do something special.

Ballance was turning it sharply off the straight. Jadeja could have caused great problems from the rough but of course India's refusal to play Ashwin was baffling.

England's lack of influence over the pitches is laughable. You can't have a pace attack strategy without green grass on your HOME pitches.

This garbage about drainage systems drying out the squares across the country is just an excuse. Easy to keep a square alive with full time groundsmen.

Commercial pressures dictating dead pitches I'm afraid....Lord's will be a batting paradise.

Eng should win this series. Dhoni + Fletcher too timid. We're not much better but should just about prevail.
Report cdog July 13, 2014 7:49 PM BST
Can't possibly see it being 0-0. This was a "bore draw" but the Sri Lanka tests were either last ball draws or penultimate ball results. Bore draws are rare so even some of the exciting matches seemingly destined for draws will produce a result.
Report Asparagus Man July 14, 2014 12:24 PM BST
Both of these teams can self destruct far too easily for 0-0 to be a viable call for me.

Going to be a long few weeks for the players and there's not much between these sides - I fancy England will be slightly the happier in that I think home advantage will tell in the end.
Report Foinavon July 14, 2014 1:52 PM BST
Well my initial bet on this match was a lay of England (see second post on this thread). Should have stuck with that and not tinkered Cry. Will continue with a lay of England in this series until proven wrong.
Report Asparagus Man July 14, 2014 3:36 PM BST
Think it's highly unlikely that this series will be won from behind.

If England win at Lords everything will seem right again and I'd expect them to win by a margin of at least 2 Tests.

If India win - England will be desparately worrying where the next win will come from.

I think England are rightly favourites, but there is some decent value in the series score market for India win scenarios.
