Looks like a fair amount of rain days 1 and 5. OTOH last 2 tests here over in 3 days.

A small back of the draw, but will reverse if forecast improves.

Good morning all from a warm Hamilton where it looks like an intriguing days play here. The morning session will be crucial and set the tone for the rest of the match. Weather is fine, a lot more cloud in the sky but they are harmless. boy that was cliched. I see the prices have moved a bit to where I thought they should be, but could still move a bit more (imho). Someone did say NZ bat deep but I tend to disagree slightly. Southee at 8 is a walking wicket but the 3 below him do offer some runs. Sodhi actually looks ok with the bat. But having Southee at 8 is a liability (cue for him to prove me wrong today).
Report PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH December 20, 2013 9:17 PM GMT
hi, careful all of that back bet of NZ runs 325 at for 60 quid at 137 Scared
Report Foinavon December 20, 2013 9:18 PM GMT
G'day Tyco,
Perhaps I was being a little optimistic, or it was wishful thinking but the NZ tail is currently scoring better than some I could mention Wink
Glad you are enjoying the weather, it was cold and frosty here in Birmingham this morning when I went for a stroll.
Report takethestand December 20, 2013 9:19 PM GMT
Windies were lucky to reah total.  NZ fielding was awful compared to normal.  Windies score more like 367/18.

Their 3 wickets were also eithe special catches or a bad LBW.  They wont get a lead (or big enough lead) or score enough quickly enough to win this game.

A big lay of Windies from here.  Should by 5+

Looking ahead to India test series......both Flynn (yet again) and Latham are pushing hard for an opening spot.  Latham looks a class act to me and will be a fixture in this team in next 1 year.  I'd put money on the Home India series being McCullams last test ever due to back issues.
Report oddduck December 20, 2013 9:43 PM GMT
NZ win appears to be the least likely result - odds wrong way round for me. Starting off with a NZ lay
Report pxb December 20, 2013 10:03 PM GMT
Made a bit of a hash of overnight trading, but managed to scramble an OK position. Now all I need is plenty of maidens to make my big draw green worth something come stumps.
Report tyco161 December 20, 2013 10:06 PM GMT
Yeah almost flip flop time. Wi have been too long all game
Report tyco161 December 20, 2013 10:11 PM GMT

Report pxb December 20, 2013 10:41 PM GMT
If the draw gets to 3 before the next wicket, I'll be pretty happy.
Report slip5 December 20, 2013 10:54 PM GMT

what are they doing the windies
Report tyco161 December 20, 2013 11:02 PM GMT
dont know what the windies are doing but NZ like to self destruct dont they
Report tyco161 December 20, 2013 11:06 PM GMT
what is happening to the NZ price. A wicket and they go lower ?
Report pxb December 20, 2013 11:23 PM GMT
Keeping the spinners on with the old ball isn't a good omen for NZ 2nd inn.
Report tyco161 December 20, 2013 11:31 PM GMT
that may be but the spinners seem less effective this morning than last night... but it is still very interestingly poised and could go either way in a hurry
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 12:12 AM GMT
spinners should bowl 9 overs max a bowling spell, 13 overs is stupid to expect the spinners to remain effective.
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 12:12 AM GMT
you would think west indies should get a draw at least here
Report tyco161 December 21, 2013 12:36 AM GMT
be careful about the draw guys. WI are behind and so to square the series may set a "reasonable" declaration to give themselves enough time to bowl NZ out with the conundrum that NZ may then also get the runs. Ie put the draw out of question. Not saying its going to happen that way but its a possibility
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 12:40 AM GMT
tyco i dont really think they can afford to be over expansive with fancy declarations they will make sure any target is out of new zealands sight, they have lost a lot of test matches recently they will make sure 1-0 series loss is the max.

Report tyco161 December 21, 2013 1:11 AM GMT
exactly, this market is weird. NZ are going to have to bat last and that will make it that much more difficuly. Im not complaining though, just thankful I can get such good prices on the WI's
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 1:11 AM GMT
i thought that was going to be given not out

Report slip5 December 21, 2013 1:43 AM GMT
34 overs left in the day
Report tyco161 December 21, 2013 1:45 AM GMT
hi Slip5. I dont know, they seem pretty keen to win the game or determined to do well. I do not think they are going to throw away their wickets either. Do not think the NZ bowlers will have the same impact they had in Wellington. And the WI have a few ahead. They bat all day today and tomorrow if they can and then see if they can bowl NZ out on day 5. Can they do that?
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 1:47 AM GMT
need 350 target really and say 110 overs at new zealand but its never that easy with the windies they can be blown away sometimes.
Report tyco161 December 21, 2013 1:51 AM GMT
you may be forgetting that NZ will have to bat on a day 5 wicket against these spinners. That might not be that easy. Rutherford and Fulton are walking wickts, so really all the WI have to do is get through Taylor and Williamson and they have the game.
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 2:00 AM GMT
yeah but you do need runs on the board so you can use spinners in attacking mode it is no good getting bundled out for 200
Report BJT December 21, 2013 2:01 AM GMT
Sitting on a NZ lay hoping for a decent start from WI.  0/30 would be nice to start dwindling the trade down.

Warner the most in form batsman in the country at the moment and was born to play T20.  Tough call on who wins that, but would certainly pick Thunder.  Don't know that the odds are out, think it is a coin toss.  Plenty of hitters in both sides.
Sandhu looks a decent talent with the ball.  Nannes great bowler but not sure how he is travelling.  Lee back in the day yeah, but should be short of pace.  Good enough to get the area though and be solid.

Warner the match winner, so have to side with him.

Report thefavourite December 21, 2013 3:36 AM GMT
i am on sixers.

feel the top 4 are very similiar with the bat (warner obv the best of em) but maddison is set to explode

fast bowlers i rate evenly hazelwood > sanhu but nannes > lee pretty much break even.

sixers have a real edge in spin since thunder have no one good and are playing bit part players

and i give sixers the edge in the 5-8 departments both teams playing alot of all rounders but i think sixers slightly better with bat and ball in this region

so i give sixers a slight edge in team strength and as such am backing them. obv have to fade warner though which is always risky.
Report slip5 December 21, 2013 3:43 AM GMT
