The ground has a history of results, but the wicket's generally flat with lots of high first innings scores. Some early showers about according to the forecast but shouldn't take too long out of the game IMO.

Very hard to call the result at this stage but I'm backing the draw first off (possibly to lay depending on how how things progress). Fairly confident the draw will trade beneath 1.5s at some point, particularly given the weak bowling performances & decent batting performances on both teams in the first test.

Bangla batting in the 1st Test was a surprise. If they can do the same again, draw definitely goes short.

not that much of a surprise. they scored 500+ in Galle not so long ago. they bat well in Asia.

You could argue their batting (in Asia anyway) is stronger than Pak's

likely rain all day tomorrow.

other days not so bad, Wednesday probably the clearest day but Thursday and Friday both look like they might have rain at some point, no idea how much if any time will be lost on those days though.

If they don't get any play tomorrow it would go along way towards killing the game anyway.

Tyco, if you can, have a look at a weather forecasting site such as BBC Weather and type in Dhaka. I have just looked at it and there's going to be heavy rain/showers/cloud for the rest of the week.

Report DJSteer October 21, 2013 11:06 AM BST
Got reasonable green on the draw & break even on Bang/NZ after a few trades. Tempted to top up on the draw given tomorrow's forecast. Could be beneath 1.1 by close tomorrow. Eventually, I'll be looking to gamble a small chunk of that profit laying the draw at very low odds as either team may try to force a result later in the game if the weather settles.

cant believe bangers are shorter than kiwis here. Shocked

Taking 20 wkts on this pitch will be a lot harder than scoring runs with the short boundaries. tomo's fc doesnt look the best
but rain was forecast everyday in chittagong and it failed to
arrive. Dhaka is also drier than chit usually and the monsoon season finishes in october so hopefully the rain is on the way
out.

early start tomo and subsequent days to make up lost time. If we
get 50+ overs in tomo i think kiwis win.

Got burnt a little laying the draw test 1. Still confident given enough overs of a result here, hard to say how much rain will show up tho. Agree with DJ think the draw will shorten considerably so will consider a good lay of the draw at shorter price.

Ross Taylor in an interview said he was confident of a result. Already bowlers footmarks showing up he said and this pitch is doing more than the one for the first test. Its a pity it may be weather dependant but the draw is lengthening so who knows the weather may be on the improve too.

What price Banga then?? 6 at the moment seems way too big and NZ are too short
Report DJSteer October 22, 2013 12:36 PM BST
Could easily end up as a 1 innings game with 2+ days left. Weather looks better for Weds & Thurs. Agree with Stickon that Bang price looks generous. All my green is now on draw lay.

Wow, the draw back to 2.30... I watched the draw tumble from $3 into 1.73 when I turned off yesterday with the last session a wash out. Obviously better weather expected as it has bounced back again. My only trade so far is Bang back at $9, tempted to take the draw now to avoid a repeat of yesterday... Think market has NZ far too short and Bang still look value imo. Will hold off on the draw, cup the balls and hope for a full days play!

There must still be rain in the air for the draw to be so low (circa 2.50) NZ have a substantial lead but will have to bat 4th. Either way if there are 2 full days including the extra half hour at the start of the day I cannot see anything but a result in this game.
Report OzBattla October 23, 2013 9:02 PM BST
Well done to NZ, getting a 150+ lead has put a stranglehold on this game. Pretty committed with the Banglas here, so might hold fire and see how things pan out today. My hope is for the Banglas to get quick runs and score 250-280 leaving NZ with a nasty little run chase of 130-150 on day 5.
Report tyco161 October 23, 2013 10:52 PM BST

This is the best site Ive ever used for forecasts, as advised ages ago on here by Nigel

NZ will declare overnight and hope to skittle out the Banglas cheap BUT the banglas will view a drawn series as a huge result. Im green all over but have shifted quite a chunk towards a draw
Report pxb October 24, 2013 12:02 AM BST
Looks like we could lose half the overs Friday. So NZ declaring would be a good move to get a result.

What chance Bangla score 280+ in say 90 overs? That's what I estimate is needed for a draw. Assuming my rain assessment is correct.

a terrible day for those hoping for a result but a big day for bangladeshi test cricket imho.

the first step to becoming a good test cricketing side is learning how not to lose matches and they deserve great praise for how they batted today.

just been reading this:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/current/story/682037.html

of course dropping Katich was a huge mistake. I'd have no qualms about his playing in the last series or this one coming up. Mentally he's as tough as old boots and if playing Rogers in the last series wasn't admission of guilt, i don't know what was.

but the shocking thing about the article is the crap coming out of Sutherland's mouth. The problem is a lack of test batting talent, an inconsistent bowling attack combined with capricious selection and a captain that half the side hate.

No-one at cricket Australia should be in the slightest bit concerned about getting "the Australian team get back on top". They first of all need to stop being sh1t.  Once you've passed that milestone you can start thinking about becoming good. There is far too much belief in a bad side, and a reluctance to admit that the greatness of the last two decades is but a speck of dust in the rear view mirror.
