It's called Test Cricket Pauli,

This is how it should be played first up.

Succint and perfect response. It's why Test cricket is dying though because your average fan can't see past a 20-over crash, bang, wallop any more.

Oh Pauli,

I remember the days 190-5 at the end of the first day, Sunday was a rest day.  I have to say the great Aus side changed all that but it helped that they got flat wickets and a dearth of quality fast bowling

And 5 or so all rounders in the Aussie set-up..

Which is probably why I've never really watched it Whispering. Have memories of my dad sat in his chair, with his cigar and slippers, telling me to be quiet although nothing was happening.

it's like marmite pauli, I loved it, couldn't get enough.  I hated it when the horse racing came on or golf although I might switch to the wresting when Kendo Nagasaki was onLaugh during the tea interval.

27.0 overs played in two hours - the amount of time spent watching grass grow and groins being rubbed is getting excessive.

Don't get me wrong Whispering, I do like cricket. I used to play a bit but I bowled aggressively and batted even more so. In all sports I've played I've always taken the game to the opposition. With this game, Englands attitude will only work if they now go on and make a big score. If they are 5 down at tea then I think they will have wasted a session as the ball didn't do a lot. Time will tell but I can see why a lot of people wont watch this.

this is very difficult pitch .england play for 300 runs. 300 runs is good score hear .

if no rain coming in this match then match result come in day 4

i think you need to be able to think up some context before you attack what you perceive to be slow progress.

batting first seems to be the right decision here, but there's always the risk that there will be a little bit of spice first up, and then the conditions will settle and runs will be easier later on. the worst possible place you could find yourself in is 80/3 or 90/4 because you're overpressing - you're basically squandering the advantage you've gained in winning the toss.

a conservative first session, along with care during the first hour after lunch and england are exceptionally well placed. there is plenty of time in the afternoon and after tea to push on.

Push on?  As in get the run rate up to 2.5?
By:
Whisperingdeath
When: 09 Aug 13 13:40
The run rate is not important at this stage  why would England even bother with looking at it let alone try and increase it?  These two will try and bat and bat and bat.

It's slow and it's flat, how this is difficult to bat on?

The comms always make the pitch sound worse than it is.

We've had lots of sun and lots of short, sharp showers up here the past two or three weeks. It'll be lucky to have no rain affect parts of this Test.

what price england when they get 450?
By:
They think it's all over....

slow pitch will nearly always bring about slow run rate.

Clarke admitted himself that he would have batted first.

I still think that England have started with the mindset that a draw is essential, a win would be a nice bonus. If Australia bat poorly they may well win easily but so far their demeanor seems to suggest "if we bat for 2 days we won't lose"

Two hours, one wicket whatever the run rate, isn't the mindset of a draw. It's the mindset of building a foundation.

BJT obsessed with Eng's RR. Desperate stuff.

Lost 1 wicket in a session and they are still at SP.  Their RR is very important.  You choose not to see it, not my problem.

It's called proper Test match batting, something which the Clarke would kill for from his top six right now.

By:

When: 09 Aug 13 14:02
At this stage of course.  But very early into a 5 day game.
