Current forecast is rain on 4 of 5 days. Too early to tell if just showers or more persistent rain. I expect a fair amount of volatility over the next week. My current estimate is we lose at least 1 session, and possibly rather more.
it has been lashing down in manchester for the past week on and off with similar forecasts ahead.
the drainage is very good at OT and the ground staff are good as well.
I would not be surprised if we lost a session here and there. I would be surprised if it mattered as the pitch will be incredibly dry and take spin hence the Panesar selection.

reckon tomorrow will be a bowl first toss as the pitch has been covered for days.
when they called him up though i reckon he might have played as the pitch has been dry all season

In manchester it's currently slightly overcast very windy
So if there is any rain within 100 odd miles its could get here quite quick of blow away fairly quickly
Very mild probably around 18-19 degrees could playing conditions

Am left chasing my tail tonight having backed England pre-match and layed the draw early in running. Have decided to take a chance on backing England again at nine and a bit in the hope that the price will eventually fall back to a level where I can significantly reduce liabilities. If it doesn't work, well I haven't increased liabilities by very much percentage wise. Hoping that England will be more successful tomorrow. Often happens following a breakthrough.

I'm in the same boat foinavon. Wondering if a bit of rain in the air will help the bowlers early on. With a couple of early wickets do you think we would see much of a drop in eng price?

A couple might not be enough, really need to see four out by lunch. If England can limit Australia to a reasonable score then make a good start themselves the price should come in significantly. Hoping for a price around 4 in order to reverse out. My red on the draw is twice that on Australia.

Can't have England at 11 make them more like a 33 poke
Not too fussed about the win just want to eat up time and see this out could turn into a very boring test this so unlike the other two tests

Working all weekend so will be looking out the window just trading the weather :-)
Think oz still a fantastic price here England on back foot expect oz to post around 500 by tea today leave 30 overs to bowl at England and try to get into them early
1st time England under pressure here
England gone 2-0 up in recent ashes series and lost the 3rd test both times heavily think they take there foot off the peddle a bit
Just think there's two possible outcomes draw or oz and 9/4 is huge as they are going to go all out for the win

Given that this looks like being a 4 day game due to Mondays appalling weather forecast - i'm now an England layer at 14s
Does anyone see England winning this in 4 days?Cool

England are a good lay at any price (as are Australia as well for that matter) England have already thrown their hat at this game and anyway by the time rain intervenes (and it will be well before Monday) England will still be at the crease for the first innings. If Australia could get to 500+ and declare England are liable to be only 5 down for the same total on Sunday

The reality is, we are told that they know the weather in 10-20 years time and how we are causing all these issues with the weather, yet they still have no fcuking clue about the weather from day to day. Were supposed to lose play yesterday.

Some quite bizarre contradictions. The BBC has rain/heavy rain yet on their predictive radar it shows no rain!
Other sites predict a largely dry day with plenty of sun.

In truth it doesn't matter anymore now that England have avoided the follow on. I'll never understand how people were so anxious to get with the draw on the first 2 tests and yet it has taken until this Afternoon for them to realise there cannot be a result in this Test. Did Australia suddenly become world beaters on 2 weeks R&R to make 527 a match winning score. Even now at 1.2 if you had the money it is picking up chips in truth. There won't even be a second innings here in my view not to mind a result

I think Pieterson will still be at the crease when this Test Match is brought to an early end due to the weather. Does that explain it for you? They are not going to be able to get him out imo

Will I get my Coat? No sooner had I posted about Pieterson being there until Monday and he was on his way back.
Won't matter though the draw is signed sealed and delivered. The only chance for a result was the follow on and that is gone now

Pietersen for the most part played a good innings, but he certainly had more than his fair share of lucky moments. There were chances all day and England got the better of it. They could easily have been all out for 250.
The other thing you seem to have left out in regards to them suddenly becoming world beaters, is the obvious point that they won the toss this match and chose to bat. England have batted under the best conditions for the first 2 tests and Aus got their chance this match and took full advantage of it.
Rain is the only thing saving England this match. Sad for a team expected by its fans to win 5-0 that they really need to win the toss or they can't perform.

Agreed, the signs are good for Australia for the remaining Tests. However unfortunately the Rain is a big player for the remaining fixtures. Pleasantly surprised at the weather this morning, overcast but settled and dry. They will get plenty of play in today. I'm surprised I must admit as it was meant to be raining by now

the rain is forecast to hit about lunchtime today- and this forecast has been there for past 48 hours at least

What kind of a comment is that lmfao? Surely if anyone has called this Test Series right it is me? (see all my posts about the draw) I might be many things but guilty of Idiotic comments surely not
We are all looking at the same pictures I assume and at the SKY when the TV Cameras show it. It's a grand day and there is no sign of rain (yet) It's almost noon now and if anything it is getting brighter.
Separately I must give credit to England this morning for at least making an effort to play and give us some entertainment.
The result might not be in doubt at this stage but all credit to them for playing some shots. The RR for the innings (131) is now up to 2.7 which is remarkable imo considering where it was

It's 1.01 now imo, Cameras panned upwards as the players walked off and there is loads of blue there. The most significant thing is that there is no wind so any weather is moving very slowly. It looks a settled day so far anyway

Based on that forecast you would be stupid not to bet your house on the draw @ 1.29
If you're house is worth 200,000 then you could have 58,000 by tomorrow evening. All you would have to do is watch it rain.

it will rain and it will rain heavily but the danger is Australia chasing the game and setting England 250-270 to try and force the series
If England were in Australia's shoes the draw would be 1.01

lustrum asks for his idiotic postings- so just from this thread we have:
'Pieterson will still be at the crease when this Test Match is brought to an early end due to the weather'
'there cannot be a result in this Test'
'by the time rain intervenes ... England will still be at the crease for the first innings'
'England are a good lay at any price'
'If Australia could get to 500+ and declare England are liable to be only 5 down for the same total on Sunday '
All idiotic statements
Oh- and it looks like the rain is coming but delayed a bit- so I would have lost my bet given that the forecast was for rain at 1pm- now its forecast as coming later- and that means it will have more impact on this game then first thought- i.e. it will rain more during play as opposed to the 40 minute lunch break

Onto proper matters just as the rain took a while to arrive it won't be going anywhere soon. Band is moving so slowly it won't pass quickly

Clarke has just taken away any chance of a result. We have all seen enough of Cricket to know that there is no more play now for the day. Do they think it is going to get brighter later on? FFS.
As I see it Clarke complained of the conditions and engaged the Umpires who made a decision. Now that the Umpires have made the call England even if put in do not have to come out today/until conditions improve.

A dying kick from an Interesting Test but the net result the same i.e no result
Jeez for those at the Ground that got on the Draw at 1.5 today it was well worth the price of admission.
There was a good write up on the weather on crinconfo where they referenced a guy with 3 weather systems in front of him all showing rain and yet he was looking out the Window at play on-going
