After the world cup 2011 he was arguably the best batsman in the world in tests and one dayers at the ripe old age of 37. Two years since, 21 tests average of 31 no centuries. He will be 40 next month. Give it up man, we dont know if India have any real class in backup until we give them a chance. Pujara has been brilliant, cant argue with dhawans debut and Kohli is a real talent who needs to be persevered with. Thing is I just knew he wouldnt get runs against us and was pretty sure he wouldnt get runs v aus. God knows when they next play, nothing on the cricinfo international calendar for the next year.
I totally agree, his 32 yesterday, was an innings which really showed he is finished, at Test Level, as yesterday, it looked like he had never held a bat in his life. It happens to all players, its just his reactions have slowed, he may not pick the ball up quite as quickly, as he used to. All very sad, for a really great player, but he should retire now.

Well i cant see him getting any better in 9 months or so, and their bowlers are sh1t hot and the conditions more alien to indians generally. Surely today was his last test innings, or it could be absolute carmage in safrica.

I think he should play on for another 4-5+ years at least. The youngsters coming through such as Pujara, Vijay and Rahane will be learning loads from him.

I hope Sachin retires from all international cricket sooner ,rather than later , hitting the winning runs to win the Border/Gavaskar trophy 4-0 would have been perfect , however it was not meant to be A man of his Greatness will obviously want to bow out on a high, but the more he looks for that, the less likely it will be . I'm sure none of us true cricket fans, whichever national team you support ,would want to see The Little Master risk losing his dignity in the twilight of his international career.

His average has already dropped from about 57 to 53.something in 2 years. That is a big drop considering how many matches he has played. I think he will retire, this is still a kind of high for him. Aus have arguably been their biggest rivals over his career and to beat them 4-0 in his last series despite, not because of, his batting is as good as it is gonna get from here on in. His career has almost exactly covered my cricket watching career and it is remarkable to think of what has been and gone in my life let alone on the international cricket field in that time, and hehas been ever present. But, this has to be it now. Dont know if he will announce it in the next few days or maybe sometime in the summer, but surely he knows his time is up now.

India rumoured to be lining up a home series with SL some time this summer. That might be the time to go.
Doubt he will quit now. would want some sort of farewell test.

Completely agree. Time to go now. Last innings of last two tests he's actually been a liability, causing panic where there was no need for any. Getting run out last Monday was a terrible embarrassment, suggesting blind panic. This morning's shot was a replica of his first innings dismissal, showing he'd learnt nothing. Must stop now if has any integrity and self knowledge.

Its probably time to retire but if he doesnt it will be interesting to see if the Indian selectors have the courage to drop him. There could be a riot!
