I mean what's the point in them playing such a long test series? We all know the result. Their batting is hopeless on these tracks. The pitch at Ahmedabad was nowhere near a minefield, as the Indian batting demonstrated. How can a test team be 110/7 on such a wicket against decent-but-not-great spinners like Ojha and Ashwin? Even NZ, Windies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are better than that. I really think England should not play more than 2 tests in a series in Asia.

How many do you think India should play in England Dulu ? At least England put up a fight after getting into trouble unlike

the gutless performances by India last time they visited England.
Report Queen_Dulu November 19, 2012 8:39 AM GMT
Yes, India also shouldn't play 4/5 tests in England, Australia or South Africa. However, India are slightly better in England, than England are in India. India did win a series in England in 2007. Teams like South Africa only play 2 test series in India. That's pathetic. India-South Africa in India will be a cracking series, and should be at least 4 matches.

What are you saying Queenie?? Wash your mouth out!
More tests the better for England in India I say.
It might be a bit boring and predictable, but laying
them is a great way to make money...Grin.

Haha you're right! It's great for us punters to can recognize the huge value. But this is bad for popularity of test cricket.

Maybe the poms should use Indians instead of Saouth Africans to make up their team.
Report sweetchildofmine November 19, 2012 6:31 PM GMT
so by that token should india not be allowed 4 tests in england, as they were humiliated last time they visited and they obviously cant cope with english pitches

I wonder if this 'queenie' character still has any money left at all to lay England at high prices again. What a bigoted mug with no understanding at all about cricket, value or prices.
Report Queen_Dulu December 11, 2012 2:05 PM GMT
I still maintain England shouldn't be allowed to play 4-test series in India. Couple of fluky wins based on great individual efforts shouldn't mask years of failure.
Report STEPTOES YARD December 11, 2012 2:07 PM GMT
would have been so much better to hold yer hands up and admit you got it wrong mate (we all do from time to time)
Report Queen_Dulu December 11, 2012 2:12 PM GMT
So Steptoe do you think England batsmen have become great players of spin bowling overnight? You believe those continued failures in the UAE, SL and T20 WC and Ahmedabad were fluke, while the last 2 tests were true talent? Ever heard of "small sample size"?
Report Queen_Dulu December 11, 2012 2:14 PM GMT
By the way, this thread is about England only. India, at this moment, are an AWFUL test side. I'm not sure if THEY should be allowed to play 4 test series home OR away at this moment. IPL has destroyed their batsmen's discipline which England have exposed in the last 2 matches. England haven't become champion players of spin overnight.
Report Dcanio December 11, 2012 2:25 PM GMT
But the tone of your opening post was along the lines of the fact the series won't be competitive - and therefore should not be 4 tests. If England (and India as you now say) are so bad then that should still make for a competitive series, no?

Not sure there's a soul - Indian, English or otherwise - who'd suggest a 4th test is not appreciated here. England on top. India down, but not quite out. Chance to close the coffin lid, but plenty of guys capable of performing if they can actually step up to plate. Should be a very interesting test, with so much riding on it for so many.
Report Queen_Dulu December 11, 2012 2:31 PM GMT
I guess you could say the series has proved to be competitive. But that's mainly due to the pathetic state of Indian test team has dragged to the level of England. Bangladesh and Ireland matches are also competitive. But that doesn't mean they get to play 4 test series, do they?
Report STEPTOES YARD December 11, 2012 2:34 PM GMT
Err they drew in Sri lanka too queen dulu, even New Zealand did.

As ive said better to admit opening statement was wrong than keep digging.

Ive made wrong statements before as everyone else has, best just admit it though and hold hands up.
Report Queen_Dulu December 11, 2012 3:06 PM GMT
OK, so I should admit England are GREAT players of spin bowling? That all those 72 all out etc were LIES, and only the last 2 tests are the TRUTH? Sorry, I'm not that fickle-minded. I will stick to years of data instead of falling for a typical media overreaction after a victory or a defeat.

Report worcester sauce December 11, 2012 4:27 PM GMT
queen dulu perhaps then we should ask should india be allowed to play test cricket anywhere cuz they cant win in england and they cant win in their own back yard
Report Dcanio December 11, 2012 5:13 PM GMT
England have a couple of good players of spin, a couple of mediocre players and a couple who struggle. I'd suggest that's akin to most successful test nations as if you have all your eggs in one basket then you leave yourself over exposed, particularly away from home.

Problem is, India haven't got any great spinners to try to capitalise anyhow. Even England's two 'good' spinners can outperform them. But as a team, yes we are competent at handling the turning ball. Not great, not awful, but competent.
Report cunningplan December 11, 2012 6:25 PM GMT
theres no doubt england struggle against good spin, but india arent playing good spinners and indias batsmen havent gone big, thats when england would be found out
Report worcester sauce December 11, 2012 6:31 PM GMT
and indian batsmen havnt gone big why ? because england bowlers havnt let them
Report DStyle December 11, 2012 7:53 PM GMT
there's a rather amusing interview with Brenda Sewage after the third test highlighting that the problem with the indian batting line up is a lack of patience.

you could hardly make it up.

In answer to the OP's original question- a resounding 'No'

Obviously the incompetent Indians are only able to prepare a maximum of three first class test pitches- four is way way beyond their limited capabilities.

Still- no doubt this dull lifeless pancake has had its uses- its allowed a far inferior team to hide their inadequacies .
